The current study targets to estimate the contribution of the end-anchored FRP composites in resisting shear force using a soft computing tool i.e., adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). A total of 107 sets of data accumulated from literature was utilized for the development and evaluation of the current ANFIS model. A comparative analysis between the ANFIS predictions and the acquired experimental results has shown that the ANFIS predictions are in very good agreement with that of experimental ones. Additionally, the accuracy of the current ANFIS model has been weighed up against the estimates of nine widely adopted design guidelines. Based on various statistical parameters, it has been deduced that the effectiveness of the current ANFIS model is better than the considered design guidelines. Besides this, a parametric study was carried out to explore the combined effect of different parameters as well as the impact of individual parameters.
In this paper, a general model is developed to predict the distribution of interfacial shear and normal stresses of FG beam reinforced by porous FGM plates under mechanical loading. The beam is assumed to be isotropic with a constant Poisson's ratio and power law elastic modulus through the beam thickness. Stress distributions, depending on an inhomogeneity constant, were calculated and presented in graphicals forms. It is shown that both the normal and shear stresses at the interface are influenced by the material and geometry parameters of the composite beam, and it is shown that the inhomogeneities play an important role in the distribution of interfacial stresses. The results presented in the paper can serve as a benchmark for future analyses of functionally graded beams strengthened by imperfect varying properties plates. Numerical comparisons between the existing solutions and the present new solution enable a clear appreciation of the effects of various parameters. The results of this study indicated that the imperfect functionally graded panel strengthening systems are effective in enhancing flexural behavior of the strengthened FGM beams. This research is helpful in understanding the mechanical behaviour of the interface and design of hybrid structures.

In this paper, the problem of interfacial stresses in steel beams strengthened with a fiber reinforced polymer plates is analyzed using linear elastic theory. The analysis is based on the deformation compatibility approach developed by Tounsi (2006) where both the shear and normal stresses are assumed to be invariant across the adhesive layer thickness. The analysis provides efficient calculations for both shear and normal interfacial stresses in steel beams strengthened with composite plates, and accounts for various effects of Poisson's ratio and Young's modulus of adhesive. Such interfacial stresses play a fundamental role in the mechanics of plated beams, because they can produce a sudden and premature failure. The analysis is based on equilibrium and deformations compatibility approach developed by Tounsi (2006). In the present theoretical analysis, the adherend shear deformations are taken into account by assuming a parabolic shear stress through the thickness of both the steel beam and bonded plate. The paper is concluded with a summary and recommendations for the design of the strengthened beam.

Tests and analyses were performed in this study to assess the shear strength of Reinforced Concrete(RC) members strengthened by the Near Surface Mounted(NSM) technique in shear, which is drawing attention as an alternative to the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer(CFRP) bonding strengthening technique. Four-point bending tests were performed on 7 RC specimens without any shear reinforcement. The test variables such as the inclination of CFRP strip (45 degrees and 90 degrees), and the spacing of CFRP strip (250mm, 200mm, 150mm, 100mm) were considered. Through the testing scenarios, the effect of each test variable on the failure mode and the shear strength of the RC members strengthened by the NSM technique in shear were assessed. The test results show that the specimens with CFRP strips at 45 degrees go to failure as a result of the strip fracture, but the specimens with CFRP strips at 90 degrees go to failure as a result of the slip of strips. Strips at 45 degrees was the more effective than strips at 90 degrees, not only in terms of increasing beam shear resistance but also in assuring larger deformation capacity at beam failure. In addition, the RBSN analysis appropriately predicted the crack formation and the load-displacement response of the RC members strengthened by the NSM technique in shear.

The reinforced concrete becomes deteriorated. In strengthening of reinforced concrete structure, it is recently useing FRP. The purpose of this study is to investigate the shear resisting effort of filling-up CFRP in reinforced concrete beams without web reinforced. Six specimens were manufactured and tested. In the test result, it was analysis. The main variables in the test were a space and volume of CFRP.
SCP(Sand Compaction Pile) method that forms a composite ground by driving compacted sand piles into the soft ground. This method is one of the soil improvement techniques for reinforcing and strengthening soft ground deposits. This thesis describes the investigation on the behavior of soft ground reinforced with SCP by low improvement ratio. Direct shear test and consolidation test carried out to verified behavior of composite ground reinforced with SCP. Test results were discussed with reference to the amount of consolidation settlement, variation of shear resistance with area replacement ratio and effect of the stress concentration. And, laboratory model loading test carried out to verified the effect of the location and failure mode of reinforced embankment. Residual shear strength varies with the area replacement and constrict load in the low replacement ratio. Calculated stress concentration ratio overestimate than proposed valve by experimental, theoretical and analytical method. As regards the location, improving right below of the top of the slope was more effective than below of the toe of the slope. This thesis carried out to obtain fundamental information of behavior of the composit ground. Hereafter, centrifuge test that reproduce stress state of the in-situ must be necessary through the further study about pile penetration, reinforce position and construct time.
The strengthening of reinforced concrete structures using externally bonded steel or advanced fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) composites is becoming increasingly common. A key factor affecting the behaviour and reliability of such strengthened structures is the bond strength between the steel or FRP plate and the concrete substrate. Several different experimental set-ups have previously been used to determine bond strength. This paper presents a careful finite element analysis of the stress distributions in these test set-ups. Results show that stress distributions can be significantly different for different set-ups, for similar materials and geometry.

This study is to evaluate the ductility strengthening effect of aramid fiber sheets on piloti-type structures. Two piloti-type structure specimens were prepared and tested under statical cyclic lateral loads. The ductility strengthening effect was validated from the analysis of lateral load-displacement relationship, displacement ductility ratio, work damage index and torsion behavior. Test results showed that the post-peak behavior of piloti-type structures with columns strengthened with aramid fiber sheets tended to be ductile resulting from preventing shear failure and minimizing torsion due to the effective lateral confinement of column concrete by aramid fiber sheet. Consequently, the displacement ductility ratio and work damage index of piloti-type structures with columns with strengthened with aramid fiber sheets were 4.63 and 42.81 times higher than those of non strengthened piloti-type structures.
Fracture of Al2O3 tubes for different loading path under combined tension/torsion was investigated. Macroscopic directions of crack propagation agreed well with the maximum principal stress criterion, independent of the loading path. However, fracture strength from the proportional loading test($\tau$/$\sigma$= constant) showed either strengthening or weakening compared to that from uniaxial tension, depending on the ratio $\tau$/$\sigma$. The Weibull theory was capable to predict the strengthening of fracture strength in pure torsion, but not the weakening in the proportional loading condition. The strengthening or weakening of fracture strength in the proportional loading condition was explained by the effect of shear stresses in the plane of randomly oriented microdefects. Finally, a new empirical fracture criterion was proposed. This criterion is based on a mixed mode fracture criterion and experimental data for fracture of Al2O3 tubes under combined tension/torsion. The proposed fracture criterion agreed well with experimental data for both macroscopic directions of crack propagation and fracture strengths.
In this paper, an improved theoretical solution for interfacial stress analysis is presented for simply supported concrete beam bonded with a sandwich FGM plate. Interfacial stress analysis is presented for simply supported concrete beam bonded with a sandwich plate. This improved solution is intended for application to beams made of all kinds of materials bonded with a thin plate, while all existing solutions have been developed focusing on the strengthening of reinforced concrete beams, which allowed the omission of certain terms. It is shown that both the normal and shear stresses at the interface are influenced by the material and geometry parameters of the composite beam. A numerical parametric study was performed for different simulated cases to assess the effect of several parameters. Numerical comparisons between the existing solutions and the present new solution enable a clear appreciation of the effects of various parameters. The results of this study indicated that the FGM sandwich panel strengthening systems are effective in enhancing flexural behavior of the strengthened RC beams.
