Reinforced concrete corbels are generally used to transfer loads within a structural system, such as buildings, bridges, and facilities in general. They commonly present low aspect ratio, requiring an accurate model for shear strength prediction in order to promote flexural behavior. The model described here, originally developed for walls, was adapted for corbels. The model is based on a reinforced concrete panel, described by constitutive laws for concrete and steel and applied in a fixed direction. Equilibrium in the orthogonal direction to the shearing force allows for the estimation of the shear stress versus strain response. The original model yielded conservative results with important scatter, thus various modifications were implemented in order to improve strength predictions: 1) recalibration of the strut (crack) direction, capturing the absence of transverse reinforcement and axial load in most corbels, 2) inclusion of main (boundary) reinforcement in the equilibrium equation, capturing its participation in the mechanism, and 3) decrease in aspect ratio by considering the width of the loading plate in the formulation. To analyze the behavior of the theoretical model, a database of 109 specimens available in the literature was collected. The model yielded an average model-to-test shear strength ratio of 0.98 and a coefficient of variation of 0.16, showing also that most test variables are well captured with the model, and providing better results than the original model. The model strength prediction is compared with other models in the literature, resulting in one of the most accurate estimates.

Columns in existing reinforced concrete structures that are designed and constructed without considering seismic loads generally exhibit widely spaced transverse reinforcements without using seismic hooks. Due to the insufficient reinforcement details in columns compared to the reinforcement requirements specified in modern seismic codes, brittle shear failure is likely to occur. This may lead to sudden collapse of entire structure during earthquakes. Adequate retrofit strategy is required for these columns to avoid such catastrophic event. In order to do so, behavior of columns in existing reinforced concrete structures should be accurately predicted through computational analysis. In this study, an analytical model is proposed for accurately simulating the cyclic behavior of shear critical columns. The parameters for backbone, as well as pinching and cyclic deterioration in strength and stiffness are calibrated using test data of column specimens failed by shear.

An analytical methodology for the calculation of the flexural and the shear capacity of concrete members with Fibre-Reinforced-Polymer (FRP) bars as tensional reinforcement is proposed. The flexural analysis is initially based on the design provisions of ACI 440.1R-15 which have properly been modified to develop general charts that simplify computations and provide hand calculations. The specially developed charts include non-dimensional variables and can easily be applied in sections with various geometrical properties, concrete grade and FRP properties. The proposed shear model combines three theoretical considerations to facilitate calculations. A unified flexural/shear approach is developed in flow chart which can be used to estimate the ultimate strength and the expected failure mode of a concrete beam reinforced with longitudinal FRP bars, with or without transverse reinforcement. The proposed methodology is verified using existing experimental data of 138 beams from the literature, and it predicts the load-bearing capacity and the failure mode with satisfactory accuracy.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the method of retrofitting flexural strength and the flexural performance of retrofitted shear walls. There are various ways to reinforce the flexural strength of reinforced concrete shear wall structural systems that have already been built, in the case of that, the external force is increased, and the internal force is insufficient. However, there are various problems, such as excessive flexural stiffness after reinforcement and increasing the thickness and length of the wall. We have developed a retrofit method to solve these problems. The wall end is excavated to place the required vertical rebars, and concrete is poured after placing rebars. This is the same concept as creating wall end boundary elements later on. We also studied the anchorage method of reinforcement and the interaction method between the retrofitting end and the existing wall. The flexural test results for the reinforced concrete shear wall using the studied retrofit method can be predicted according to the sectional analysis and FEM analysis, and there are differences in the plastic hinge length, crack propagation, stiffness degradation and energy dissipation due to the bending depending on the vertical rebar ratio of wall end.

Existing reinforced concrete buildings with seismically deficient column details affect the overall behavior depending on the failure type of column. This study aims to develop and validate a machine learning-based prediction model for the column failure modes (shear, flexure-shear, and flexure failure modes). For this purpose, artificial neural network (ANN), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), decision tree (DT), and random forest (RF) models were used, considering previously collected experimental data. Using four machine learning methodologies, we developed a classification learning model that can predict the column failure modes in terms of the input variables using concrete compressive strength, steel yield strength, axial load ratio, height-to-dept aspect ratio, longitudinal reinforcement ratio, and transverse reinforcement ratio. The performance of each machine learning model was compared and verified by calculating accuracy, precision, recall, F1-Score, and ROC. Based on the performance measurements of the classification model, the RF model represents the highest average value of the classification model performance measurements among the considered learning methods, and it can conservatively predict the shear failure mode. Thus, the RF model can rapidly predict the column failure modes with simple column details.

In recently, using of steel reinforcements by reinforcing materials of the reinforced earth, micro-pile and root-pile etc,. is wide-spreading in the stabilizing control of cutting and embankment slopes, but the failure mechanism of reinforced earth as well as the effect of insert angles or types of reinforcement and others are not defined clearly. In this study, therefore heavy-duty direct shear tests were exercised on the reinforced soil and the non-reinforced soil, which was executed for research on the interaction of soil-reinforcement and theirs behavior. The hardness and softness and the standard sands were used for modeling of reinforced soil, the material constants for the computer simulation were estimated from the results of CD-Test. The effects of reinforcing and of friction increasing on the softness, area ratio of reinforcements is equal, were the better than them of the hardness, as well the reinforcing effects of shear strength without regard to the area ratio is much the same at $10^{\circ}$, insert angle of reinforced bar, differ from them of the existing study. Then, the results of numerical analysis showed that the behavior of reinforcements displayed bending resistance and shear resistance at $15^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$, respectively. Also, the state of strain transfer was observed and the behavior of resistance mechanism on reinforcements presented almost the same them of landslides stabilizing pile.
Due to the fast development of constructions in recent years, there has been a rapid consumption of fresh water and river sand. In the production of concrete, alternatives such as sea water and sea sand are available. The near surface mounted (NSM) technique is one of the most important methods of strengthening. Aluminum alloy (AA) bars are non-rusting and suitable for usage with sea water and sand concrete (SSC). The goal of this study was to enhance the shear behaviour of SSC-beams strengthened with NSM AA bars. Twenty-four RC beams were cast from fresh water river sand concrete (FRC) and SSC before being tested in four-point flexure. All beams are the same size and have the same internal reinforcement. The major factors are the concrete type (FRC or SSC), the concrete degree (C25 or C50 with compressive strength = 25 and 50 MPa, respectively), the presence of AA bars for strengthening, the direction of AA bar reinforcement (vertical or diagonal), and the AA bar ratio (0, 0.5, 1, 1.25 and 2 %). The beams' failure mechanism, load-displacement response, ultimate capacity, and ductility were investigated. Maximum load and ductility of C25-FRC-specimens with vertical and diagonal AA bar ratios (1%) were 100,174 % and 140, 205.5 % greater, respectively, than a matching control specimen. The ultimate load and ductility of all SSC-beams were 16-28 % and 11.3-87 % greater, respectively, for different AA bar methods than that of FRC-beams. The ultimate load and ductility of C25-SSC-beams vertically strengthened with AA bar ratios were 66.7-172.7 % and 89.6-267.9 % higher than the unstrengthened beam, respectively. When compared to unstrengthened beams, the ultimate load and ductility of C50-SSC-beams vertically reinforced with AA bar ratios rose by 50-120 % and 45.4-336.1 %, respectively. National code proposed formulae were utilized to determine the theoretical load of tested beams and compared to matching experimental results. The predicted theoretical loads were found to be close to the experimental values.

To develop the detailing methods at the ends of flexural shear walls. which are satisfying the ductility requirement corresponding to R = 3.5 and capable of improving the consturctibility, tests of ten isolated cantilever shear walls were carried out under the load condition comprising the cyclic lateral and constant vertical loads. major test parameters include the way of detailing and arrangement of transverse reinforcement in the boundary elements at the ends of walls, and placement of vertical reinforcement. From tests, comparable ductile behavior in test specimens incorporating the channel type of open hoops, compared with those incorporating the regular type of closed hoops, was observed.

The shear behavior and reinforcement effects of simply supported reinforced concrete deep beams with web opening subject to concentrated loads have been scrutinized experimentally to verify the effects of structural parameters such as size, location and reinforcements of web opening. A total of 14 specimens were tested at the laboratory under two-point top loading. The shear span ratio was taken constantly 0.8, and various types of reinforcements based on truss models were adopted. In the tests, the effects of loction, reinforcements of web openings on the shear behavior, and crack initiation and propagation have been carefully checked and analyzed.

An experimental study was conducted to study the behavior of slab-column connections under lateral load. Test variables include gravity shear ratio$(V_g/V_o=0.3,\;0.5)$ and flexural reinforcement ratio of slab(p=0.01, 0.015). Strength and ductility of tested specimens were evaluated in accordance with gravity shear ratios and slab reinforcement ratios. Shear stresses of Code's equation at the critical section were also compared with experimental results.
