A jointed rock slope stability evaluation was simulated by a discontinuous deformation analysis numerical method to investigate the process and safety factors for different crack distributions and different overloading situations. An optimized method using Discontinuous Deformation Analysis for Rock Failure (DDARF) is presented to perform numerical investigations on the jointed rock slope stability evaluation of the Dagangshan hydropower station. During the pre-processing of establishing the numerical model, an integrated software system including AutoCAD, Screen Capture, and Excel is adopted to facilitate the implementation of the numerical model with random joint network. These optimizations during the pre-processing stage of DDARF can remarkably improve the simulation efficiency, making it possible for complex model calculation. In the numerical investigations on the jointed rock slope stability evaluations using the optimized DDARF, three calculation schemes have been taken into account in the numerical model: (I) no joint; (II) two sets of regular parallel joints; and (III) multiple sets of random joints. This model is capable of replicating the entire processes including crack initiation, propagation, formation of shear zones, and local failures, and thus is able to provide constructive suggestions to supporting schemes for the slope. Meanwhile, the overloading numerical simulations under the same three schemes have also been performed. Overloading safety factors of the three schemes are 5.68, 2.42 and 1.39, respectively, which are obtained by analyzing the displacement evolutions of key monitoring points during overloading.
This paper presents two sets of full three-dimensional thermoelastic finite element analyses of superimposed thermo-mechanically loaded Spar Wingskin Joints made with laminated Graphite Fiber Reinforced Plastic composites. The study emphasizes the influence of residual thermal stresses and material anisotropy on the inter-laminar delamination behavior of the joint structure. The delamination has been pre-embedded at the most likely location, i.e., in resin layer between the top and next ply of the fiber reinforced plastic laminated wingskin and near the spar overlap end. Multi-Point Constraint finite elements have been made use of at the vicinity of the delamination fronts. This helps in simulating the growth of the embedded delamination at both ends. The inter-laminar thermoelastic peel and shear stresses responsible for causing delamination damage due to a combined thermal and a static loading have been evaluated. Strain energy release rate components corresponding to the Mode I (opening), Mode II (sliding) and Mode III (tearing) of delamination are determined using the principle of Virtual Crack Closure Technique. These are seen to be different and non-self-similar at the two fronts of the embedded delamination. Residual stresses developed due to the thermoelastic anisotropy of the laminae are found to strongly influence the delamination onset and propagation characteristics, which have been reflected by the asymmetries in the nature of energy release rate plots and their significant variation along the delamination front.
The precast concrete beam-column connectors for the high-rise office buildings were investigated experimentally in this study. The specimens of general precast beam-column connector which is used in a domestic site, specimen of DDC(dywidag ductile connectors) of Germany, and specimen of DDC with post-tensioning and modified DDC with post-tensioning were constructed and tested to verify the safety. The DDC with and without post-tensioning showed reliable joint strength and ductility but failed in critical inclined shear crackings at the column. The modified one showed better behaviors in tests because they did not show critical column crackings at failure. The use of prestressing did not helpful significantly to increase the strength and ductility of connectors but helpful only to develop self-centering behavior for stability.
This research analyzed the structural efficiency and application by improving the 100 mm width vertical joint to 150 mm and developing three connection methods to reduce the difficulty in assembling and handling PC walls. Moreover, nonlinear finite analysis was used for analyzing. From the analysis results, when double width connection was applied, the PC wall showed larger load capacity and ductility due to the steel bar sharing loads efficiently. Moreover, as the dimension of loops and the number of bars increased, the maximum load capacity increased as well. Also, among the double width connections, the largest capacity showed in the order of welding, ring and C type loop. However, in case of welding type loop connection, the ring type loop is more stable due to changes in different site conditions. Therefore, thorough quality control of welding is necessary.

As increasing demand on marine structures and skyscrapers, a deep shaft pile is frequently to be used for the place having weak ground strength. Because heavy horizontal force is generally applied on upper part of pile foundation used in engineering field, steel pile is highly used due to its high resistance to shear force and bending moment, and its capability to carry heavy loads. The steel pile has advantage in good constructibility, high applicability on site and easy handing, but has disadvantage in cost, more expensive than other material pile. This study is to examine the composite pile that makes economical construction possible by reducing material cost of pile; using steel and PHC pile A non welding connection method is applied to this composite pile. This study had step of comparison with the result of numerical analysis after analyzing the result of field test. Numerical analysis is the process of analyzing lateral behavior of non welding composite pile. Moreover, detailed analysis was implemented in order to evaluate joint stability. As a result of the analysis, we could interpret that the stability of the connection part is ensured as seeing the smaller internal stress than approved internal stress. Based on this study, we analyzed lateral behavior of non welding composite pile, which ensured the stability of connection part.
Formation of the weld defect, such as a blowhole and a pit in lap-jointed fillet arc welds has been a serious problem in arc welding of Zn-coated steel sheet. In this study, the relationship among welding conditions, welding materials and defect formation was investigated in order to minimize these defects in the CO₂ welds. In addition, the arc stability of the commercial welding wires was evaluated for revealing their effects on defect formation. Main conclusions obtained are as follows:1) There was no difference between shear tensile strength of the sound welds and that of the welds with blowholes whose diameters are less than 0.5mm. However, the welds with blowholes whose diameters are equal or larger than 0.5mm and pits exhibited tensile strength 10~20% and 30~40% lower than that of the sound welds respectively.2) The optimum welding condition to effectively prevent or reduce the weld defects formation are as follows:- The welding variables of 220A-23V-100cm/min and 120A-190V-30cm/min were recommended for minimizing the weld defects.- The gap between the two sheets at the lap-joint should be controlled to more than 0.2mm- Solid wire was less susceptible to the formation of the weld defects than the flux-cored wire.- The low welding current condition produced less weld defects than the hihg welding current condition.3) One of the reason why the amount of the defect was reduced at the low welding current was the gas discharging by the active agitation of the molten pool, due to an increasing in the number of the short circuit. Isocyante terminated urethane prepolymers were synthesized by the reaction of 4,4'-dimethyl phenyldiisocyanate(MDI) and ester type polyols such as ethylene glycol/ butanediol adipate(EBA), neopentylglycol/butanediol adipate (NBA) and hexanediol adipate (HA) . All of the NCO-terminated urethane prepolymers are solid at room temperature, but they become mobile enough to be disposed onto a substrate upon heating about $80^{\circ}C$. Subsequently, they are solidified and cured through the reaction with moisture. Tensile behavior of the ore-thane hotmelt exhibits characteristic features depending on the type of polyol. The adhesive strength determined by single lap shear joint is higher in order of HA, NBA and EBA based ore thane hotmelt, which can be correlated with the magnitude of breaking energy of the cured films. The failure mode are cohesive for all cases and the adhesive strength increases as the test is performed faster. This indicates that the strength of the adhesive joint is primarily dependent upon the bulk properties of the adhesives.

Recently the concern about the construction of underground structures such as oil and food storage caverns is increasing in Korea and abroad. The stability of those underground caverns is greatly influenced by shape factor and the size of excavation area as well as the joint conditions. In this study, therefore, the effect of the shape factor of an underground cavern on its stability was analyzed in terms of safety factor. To this end, four different shape factors of a cavern excavated in good rock conditions were investigated and sensitivity analyses were performed based on overburden, lateral earth pressure coefficient, joint spacing, properties, and orientation. The stability of a cavern is evaluated in terms of safety factor estimated numerically based on the shear strength reduction technique. In future, this study is expected to be helpful in designing and evaluating the stability of caverns excavated in discontinuous rock masses.
Stability of the braced earth wall in the composite ground, which is composed of the jointed base rocks and the soil strata depends on the earth pressure acting on it. In most cases, the earth pressure is calculated by the empirical method, in which base rocks are considered as a soil strata with the shear strength parameters of base rocks. In this case the effect of the joint dips of the jointed base rocks is ignored. Therefore, the calculated earth pressure is smaller than the actual earth pressure. In this study, the magnitude and the distribution of the earth pressure acting on the braced wall in the composite ground depending on the joint dips of the base rocks and the ratio of soil strata and base rocks were experimentally studied. Two dimensional large-scale model tests were conducted in a large scale test facility (height 3.0 m, length 3.0 m and width 0.5 m) by installing 10 supports in a scale of 1/14.5. The test ground was presumed with the base rock ratio of the composite ground of 65%:35% and 50%:50% and with the joint dips for each base rock layer, $0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$, respectively. And then finite element analyses were performed in the same condition. As results, the earth pressure on the braced wall increased as the base rock layer's joint dips became larger. And earth pressure at the rock layer increased as the rock rate became larger. The largest earth pressure was measured when the base rock rate was 50% (R50) and the rock layer's joint dips was $60^{\circ}$. Based on these results, a formular for the calculation of the earth pressure in the composite ground could be suggested. Distribution of earth pressure was idealized in a quadrangular form, in which the magnitude and the position of peak earth pressure depended on the rock ratio and the joint dips.
