To improve the brittle column behavior during seismic excitation, benefits of using steel fiber reinforced concrete in columns were investigated. For experimental study, eight specimens were used to evaluate the shear enhancement effect. The variables in this study were amount of shear reinforcement ratio (i.e., 0.26, 0.21 $\%$) and steel fiber volume fraction (i.e., 0.0, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0$\%$). The test results indicated that the maximum enhancement of shear capacity was shown in $1.5\%$ steel fiber content. In addition, to predict the maximum shear strength, equations of ACI 318-99, AIJ MB, NZS 3101, Hirosawa and Priestley were reviewed. From the parametric and regression study, modified Priestely equation was proposed by adding steel fiber effect.

The effect of the surface profile on CFRP and aluminum metal bonding was studied. A small number of steps were made on the aluminum surface, and the shear stress and elongation were measured using a shear test after bonding with an autoclave method. As the number of surface steps increased, the shear stress and elongation increased. The surface bonding strength increased because of the effect of the mechanical and chemical bonding. When the number of effective stages was exceeded, the shear strength decreased again due to the aspect ratio of the step and the reduction of the penetration effect of the resin into the groove.
In case of considering the shear effect, the complete solutions are obtained for dynamic plastic response of a rigid, perfectly plastic hinged-free beam, of which one end is hinged and the other end free, subjected to a transverse strike by a travelling rigid mass at an arbitrary location along its span. Special attention is paid to new deformation mechanisms due to shear sliding on both sides of the rigid mass and the plastic energy dissipation. The dimensionless numerical results demonstrate that three parameters, i.e., mass ratio, impact position of mass, as well as the non-dimensional fully plastic shear force, have significant influence on the partitioning of dissipated energy and failure mode of the hingedfree beam. The shear effect can never be negligible when the mass ratio is comparatively small and the impact location of mass is close to the hinged end.

In this paper, a refined exponential shear deformation beam theory is developed for bending analysis of functionally graded beams. The theory account for parabolic variation of transverse shear strain through the depth of the beam and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the surfaces of the beam without using shear correction factors. Contrary to the others refined theories elaborated, where the stretching effect is neglected, in the current investigation this so-called "stretching effect" is taken into consideration. The material properties of the functionally graded beam are assumed to vary according to power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. Based on the present shear deformation beam theory, the equilibrium equations are derived from the principle of virtual displacements. Analytical solutions for static are obtained. Numerical examples are presented to verify the accuracy of the present theory.

In this paper, an improved theoretical interfacial stress analysis is presented for simply supported composite aluminum- sandwich honeycomb beam strengthened by imperfect FGM plateusing linear elastic theory. The adherend shear deformations have been included in the present theoretical analyses by assuming a linear shear stress through the thickness of the adherends, while all existing solutions neglect this effect. Remarkable effect of shear deformations of adherends has been noted in the results. It is shown that both the sliding and the shear stress at the interface are influenced by the material and geometry parameters of the composite beam. This new solution is intended for applicationto composite beams made of all kinds of materials bonded with a thin plate. Finally, numerical comparisons between the existing solutions and the present new solution enable a clear appreciation of the effects of various parameters.
The scale effect of specimens on the shear behavior of joints is studied by performing direct shear tests on six different sizes in Granite. The peak and residual shear stress, shear displacement, shear stiffness, and dilation angle are measured with the different normal stress(0.29~2.65MPa) and roughness parameters. It is also shown that both the joint roughness coefficient(JRC) and the joint compression strength(JCS) reduce with increasing joint length. A series of shear tests show about 56~67% reduction in peak shear stress, and about 18~44% in residual shear stress, respectively as the contact area of joint increases from 12.25 to $361cm^2$. Also the variation of dilation angle is $27^{\circ}$ at normal stress of 0.29 MPa and $6^{\circ}$ at normal stress of 2.65 MPa, respectively. The envelopes considering scale effect for JRC are made for the peak shear strength of rock joint in comparison with the Barton's equation.

The design shear strength equations of RC shear walls have been developed based on their performance under in-plane (IP) loads, thereby failing to account for the potential performance degradation of shear strength when subjected to simultaneous out-of-plane (OOP) loading. Most of the previous experimental studies on RC walls have been conducted in one direction under quasi-static conditions, and due to the difficulty in experimental planning, there is a lack of research on cyclic loading and results under multi-axial loading conditions. During an earthquake, shear walls may yield earlier than their design strength or fail unexpectedly when subjected to multi-directional forces, deviating from their intended failure mode. In this paper, nonlinear analysis in finite element models was performed based on the results of cyclic loading experiments on reinforced concrete shear walls of auxiliary buildings. To investigate the reduction trend in IP shear capacity concerning the OOP load ratio, parametric analysis was conducted using the shear wall FEM. The analysis results showed that as the magnitude of the OOP load increased, the IP strength decreased, with a more significant effect observed as the size of the opening increased. Thus, the necessity to incorporate this strength reduction as a factor for the OOP load effect in the wall design strength equation should be discussed by performing various parametric studies.

An approximate analysis method is proposed to predict the dynamic amplification of shear forces in ordinary reinforced concrete shear walls as a preliminary study. First, a seismic design for three groups of ordinary reinforced concrete shear walls higher than 60 m was created on the basis of nonlinear dynamic analysis. Causes for the dynamic amplification effect of shear forces were investigated through a detailed evaluation of the nonlinear dynamic analysis result. A new modal combination rule was proposed on the basis of that observation, in which fundamental mode response and combined higher mode response were summed directly. The fundamental mode response was approximated by nonlinear static analysis result, while higher mode response was computed using response spectrum analysis for equivalent linear structural models with the effective stiffness based on the nonlinear dynamic analysis result. The proposed approximate analysis generally predicted vertical distribution of story shear and shear forces of individual walls from the nonlinear dynamic analysis with comparable accuracy.

In this study, to observe aging effect of undrained shear behavior for Nak-Dong River sand, undrained static and cyclic triaxial tests were performed with changing relative density ($D_r$), consolidation stress ratio($K_c$) and consolidation time. As a result of the test, the modulus of elasticity to all samples estimated within elastic zone by the micro strain of about 0.05% in case of static shear behavior increased with the lapse of consolidation time significantly, so aging effect was shown largely. Also strength of phase transformation point(S_{PT}$) and strength of critical stress ratio point($S_{CSR}$) increased with the lapse of consolidation time. Undrained cyclic shear strength($R_f$) obtained from the failure strain 5% increased in proportion to relative density($D_r$) and initial static shear stress($q_{st}$), $R_f$ of consolidated sample for 1,000 minutes increased about 10.6% compared to that for 10 minutes at the loose sand, and $R_f$ increased about 7.0% at the medium sand. In situ application range of $R_f$ to the magnitude of earthquake for Nak-Dong River sand was proposed by using a increasing rate of $R_f$ as being aging effect shown from this test result.
