  • Tensile residual stress happen by difference of coefficients of thermal expansion between fiber and matrix is one of the serious problems in metal matrix composite(MMC). In this study, TiNi fiber was used to solve the tensile residual stress as the reinforced material. TiNi fiber improves the tensile strength of composite by occurring compressive residual stress in matrix using shape memory effect of it. Pre-strain was added to generate compressive residual stress inside TiNi/A16061 composite. It was also evaluated the effect of compressive residual stress corresponding to pre-strains variation. AE technique was used to clarify the microscopic damage behavior at high temperature and the effect of pre-strain difference of TiNi/A16061 shape memory alloy composite.

  • Carbon nanofibers have synthesized a low temperature using DC Ar plasma and Fe-Phthalocyanine, and a characteristic difference of the synthesized CNF according to the location of the substrate was investigated. The carbon nanofibers had about 100nm diameter and up to $10{\mu}m$ length. These were grown in random orientation. There are two shapes in the CNFs, screw and straight line shapes. Furthermore, we found the selective growth of nanofibers on the scratched substrates. The density of CNFs synthesized on the position (a) were higher than that synthesized on the position (b) [See the Fig. 2]. Also, the length of CNFs was different. In the shape, CNFs with screw and straight line shape were synthesized in the position (a), but. only CNFs with straight line shape were synthesized in the position (b). The difference have an important effect on the field emission characteristics.

  • The objective of this research works is to investigate into characteristics of bending stiffness and failure for the ISB ultra-lightweight panel with internally structured material. The expanded metal with a crimped pyramid shape and woven metal are employed as an internally structured material. Through three-points bending test, the force-displacement curve and failure shape are obtained to examine the deformation pattern, characteristic data, such as maximum load, displacement at maximum load, etc, and failure pattern of the ISB panel. In addition, the influence of design parameters fur ISB panel on the specific stiffness, the specific stiffness per unit width, failure mode and failure map has been found. Finally, it has been shown that ISB containing expand metal with the crimped pyramidal shape is prefer to that containing woven metal from the view point of optimal design for ISB panel.

  • Titanium alloy is one of the hard processing materials made by the traditional manufacturing method because of the excellent mechanical strength. Ablation of titanium alloy is investigated by using a femtosecond laser which is a regenerative amplified Ti:sapphire laser with 1kHz repetition rate, 184fs pulse duration time and 785nm wavelength. Experiments are carried out under various ablation conditions with different pulse overlap ratios for the rectangular shape and micro hole. Test results show that the ablation characteristic according to pulse overlap ratio of titanium alloy seems to be as non-linear type at the different zone of energy fluence. The optimal condition of rectangular shape processing is obtained at the laser peak power 1.3mW, pulse overlap ratio of 90%, beam gap of $1\;{\mu}m$. The micro hole has a good quality from the pulse overlap ratio of 99% at the same laser peak power. With the optimal processing condition, the fine rectangular shape and micro hole without burr and thermal damage are achieved.

  • $AgNO_3$ has the characteristic is controlling the inhibition or promotion of particle growth by adsorbing onto specific facets of platinum nanoparticles. Therefore, in this study, $AgNO_3$ was added to control the shape of platinum nanoparticles during the liquid phase reduction process. Consequently, platinum cubes were synthesized when $AgNO_3$ of 1.1 mol% (with respect to the Pt concentration) was added into the solution. Platinum octahedrons were synthesized when 32 mol% (with respect to the Pt concentration) was added into the solution. These results demonstrate that the metal salt $AgNO_3$, effectively controlled the relative growth rates of each facet of Pt nano particles.

  • In this research, a novel sampling strategy for a CMM to inspect freeform surfaces is proposed. Unlike primitive surfaces, it is not easy to determine the number of sampling points and their locations for inspecting freeform surfaces. Since a CMM operates with slower speed in measurement than optical measuring devices, it is important to optimize the number and the locations of sampling points in the inspection process. When a complete inspection of a surface is required, it becomes more critical. Among various factors to cause shape errors of a final product, curvature characteristic is essential due to its effect such as stair-step errors in rapid prototyping and interpolation errors in NC tool paths generation. Shape errors are defined in terms of the average and standard deviation of differences between an original model and a produced part. Proposed algorithms determine the locations of sampling points by analyzing curvature distribution of a given surface. Based on the curvature distribution, a surface area is divided into several sub-areas. In each sub-area, sampling points are located as further as possible. The optimal number of sub-areas. In each sub-area, sampling points are located as further as possible. The optimal number os sub-areas is determined by estimating the average of curvatures. Finally, the proposed method is applied to several surfaces that have shape errors for verification.

  • In the recent years, as the research and the development of micro and precision machinery become active, the interest of micro actuators using SMA(Shape Memory Alloy) has been increased. The dynamic characteristic analysis of SMA is necessary for actuator application and many common researches report the material characteristics of SMA sufficiently. However, the research on dynamic characteristics is very deficient. In this paper, the helical spring are fabricated with NiTi SMA wire of high resistivity. The force, response speed, temperature, and displacement are measured by digital force gauge, infrared thermometer, and laser displacement sensor so that the dynamic characteristics of this SMA is analyzed. Also, bidirectional actuator was fabricated and experimented for its performance.

  • The use of gestures provides an attractive alternate to cumbersome interface devices for human-computer interaction. This has motivated a very active research area concerned with computer vision-based analysis and interpretation of hand gestures The most important issues in gesture recognition are the simplification of algorithm and the reduction of processing time. The mathematical morphology based on geometrical set theory is best used to perform the processing. The key idea of proposed algorithm is to track a trajectory of center points in primitive elements extracted by morphological shape decomposition. The trajectory of morphological center points includes the information on shape orientation. Based on this characteristic we proposed the morphological gesture sequence recognition algorithm using feature vectors calculated to the trajectory of morphological center points. Through the experiment, we demonstrated the efficiency of proposed algorithm.
