SMALL AMPLITUDE WAVE IN SHALLOW WATER OVER LINEAR AND QUADRATIC SLOPING BEDS

  • Here we present a study of small-amplitude, shallow water waves on sloping beds. The beds considered in this analysis are linear and quadratic in nature. First we start with stating the relevant governing equations and boundary conditions for the theory of water waves. Once the complete prescription of the water-wave problem is available based on some assumptions (like inviscid, irrotational flow), we normalize it by introducing a suitable set of non-dimensional variables and then we scale the variables with respect to the amplitude parameter. This helps us to characterize the various types of approximation. In the process, a summary of equations that represent different approximations of the water-wave problem is stated. All the relevant equations are presented in rectangular Cartesian coordinates. Then we derive the equations and boundary conditions for small-amplitude and shallow water waves. Two specific types of bed are considered for our calculations. One is a bed with constant slope and the other bed has a quadratic form of surface. These are solved by using separation of variables method.

  • For numerical analysis of a tidal flow, a two-dimensional hydrodynamic model is developed by solving the nonlinear shallow-water equations. The governing equations are discretized explicitly with a finite difference leap-frog scheme and a first-order upwind scheme on adaptive hierarchical quadtree grids. The developed model is verified by applying to prediction of tidal behaviors. The calculated tidal levels are compared to available field measurements. A very reasonable agreement is observed.

  • In this study, new dispersion-correction terms are added to leap-frog finite difference scheme for the linear shallow-water equations with the purpose of considering the dispersion effects of the linear Boussinesq equations for the propagation of tsunamis. The new model is applied to near Gadeok island in Pusan about The Central East Sea Tsunami in 1983 and The Hokkaldo Nansei Oki Earthquake Tsunami in 1993 one simulated in the study.

  • Numerical Analysis for exchanging seawater experiment is carried out in Do-Jang fish port. The change of tidal velocity and water level is derived by the two-dimensional nonlinear shallow-water numerical model. To calculate exchange rate of seawater with the change of tidal velocity and water level, a two-dimensional numerical model is employed which governing equations are Fokker-Plank equations. The calculated exchange rates of each time are described in tables and figures.

  • In this paper, a precise description is given to the basic theory as well as the detailed algorithms for the numerical treatment of the method of POD (proper orthogonal decomposition). This method is then applied to analysing the numerical solutions of one-dimensional shallow-water equations to show how the method is affected by various parameters such as the sampling time, sampling numbers, and the spatial resolution for the autocorrelation function. A few curious features associated with this flow model found through the analysis are further explained and discussed.

  • 천수 방정식 흐름률 계산에 근사 Riemann 해법을 채택한 수심 적분 모형을 도수 실험에 적용하였다. 도수 때문에 단일 수로에서 서로 다른 흐름 양상이 동시에 나타나므로 흐름 저항에 대해 수심이나 유속에 무관한 Manning 조도 계수보다는 흐름 조건을 반영할 수 있는 Weisbach 저항 계수를 채택하였다. 모의 결과는 실험 결과에 잘 부합되었으며, Weisbach 계수로부터 환산한 Manning 계수는 사류 구간과 상류 구간에서 각 각 적절하게 설정되고 있음을 확인하였다. 도수 실험과 비교에서 정수압 가정에 기반한 천수 방정식의 한계가 드러나 비정수압 천수 흐름 모형 도입의 필요성이 높아졌다.

  • 천수방정식을 해석하는 수치모형을 이용하여 Babi 섬과 Okushiri섬의 배후지역에서 관측되었던 지진해일의 매우 높은 처오름높이에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 특히, 입사파의 폭을 조절하여 섬의 바닥지름과 입사폭의 비율 변화에 따른 원추형 섬에서의 최대 처오름높이의 변화를 조사하기 위해 여러 경우의 입사파폭에 대하여 수치계산을 수행하여 수리모형실험 결과와 비교하였다. 원추형 섬의 배후지역에서의 처오름높이는 섬의 해저지름에 대한 입사파 폭의 비율과 밀접한 관련이 있음을 밝혀냈다.

  • 산사태의 시간에 따른 전파를 모의하기 위해서 천수방정식을 사용하여 산사태 수치모형을 개발하였다. 하천 및 해양에서의 산사태에 모두 해석이 가능하도록 (b, s) 좌표로 표현된 천수방정식을 개발하였다. 산사태에서 발생하는 수치적인 불연속성을 극복하기 위해서 HLL approximate Riemann solver와 total variation diminishing (TVD) limiter를 사용한 유한체적법을 사용하였다. 댐파괴 흐름와 토석류의 각 경우에 수치해석을 수행한 결과를 해석해와 실험자료와 비교를 하였다. 그 결과 서로 유사함을 확인되었다. 본 모형을 사용하여 해상 산사태와 해저 산사태를 성공적으로 모의하였다. 해저 산사태에 비해 해상 산사태의 전파속도가 더 빠르고, 바닥경사가 급할수록 또는 거칠기가 작을수록 산사태 전파속도가 더 빨라짐을 확인하였다.

농업용 저수지 수질모델 (ARSIM-rev) 개발 및 적용 (Development and Application of Agricultural Reservoir Water Quality Simulation Model (ARSIM-rev))

  • Agricultural reservoir water quality simulation model (ARSIM-rev) was developed in this study for water quality simulation of a small and shallow agricultural reservoir with limited observed water quality data. Developed ARSIM-rev is a zero-dimensional water quality model because of little spatial differences in water quality between stations in a small and shallow agricultural reservoir. ARSIM-rev used same water quality reaction equations with WASP except for several equations, and daily based input parameters such as settling rate, release rate from sediment, and light extinction coefficient changed yearly based input parameters in ARSIM-rev. A number of pre- and post-processors were developed such as auto calibration and scenario analysis for ARSIM-rev. CE-QUAL-W2, WASP, and developed ARSIM-rev were applied to Mansu agricultural reservoir to evaluate model performance, and ARSIM-rev demonstrated similar model performance with CE-QUAL-W2 and WASP when low number of observed data was used for agricultural reservoir water quality simulation. Overall, developed ARSIM-rev was feasible for water quality simulation in a small and shallow agricultural reservoir with limited observed water quality data, and it can simulate agricultural reservoir water quality precisely enough like common water quality model such as CE-QUAL-W2 and WASP within a limited time.
