A virtual shaker testing experience: Modeling, computational methodology and preliminary results

  • This work illustrates the progress of a TAS activity at exploring the challenges and the benefits of the Virtual Shaker Testing (VST) approach. The definition and the validation of new computational methodologies with respect to the state of the art were encouraged throughout this activity. The shaker Finite Element (FE) model in lateral configuration was built for the purpose and it was merged with the SpaceCraft (S/C) FE model, together with the S/C-Shaker adapter. FE matrices were reduced through the Craig-Bampton method. The VST transient analysis was performed in MATLAB(R) numerical computing environment. The closed-loop vibration control is accounted for and the solution is obtained through the fourth-order Runge Kutta method. The use of pre-existing built-in functions was limited by authors with the aim of tracing the impact of all the problems' parameters in the solution. Assumptions and limitations of the proposed methodology are detailed throughout this paper. Some preliminary results pertaining to the current progress of the activity are thus illustrated before the conclusions.

  • 노스리지 지진에 의해 손상을 받은4층 철근콘크리트조 골조건물을 대상으로 선형가진기 및 대용량의 편심가진기를 이용한 강제진동실험과 상시미진동 측정을 실시하였다. 미진동 가속도데이터 및 선형가진기에 의한 백색잡음 실험시의 가속도데이터로부터 구조물식별을 수행하여 7차모드까지의 고유진동수 및 모드감쇠비를 얻었다. 두대의 대용량 편심가진기를 사용하여 얻은 큰 진폭의 조화 진동하에서는 가속도데이터를 사용하여 각 방향 1차모드를 식별하였으며 변위계와 변형게이지를 이용하여 층간변위각, 기둥과 슬래브와 같은 구조부재의 곡률분포를 측정하였다. 각 경우 고유진동수는 진동의 크기가 클수록 낮아졌다. 즉, 편심가진기가력시 고유진동수는 상시미진동시에 비해 $70{\sim}75%$, 선형가진시가력시에 비해 $92{\sim}93%$ 정도로 낮게 나타났다. 이러한 진동수의 감소폭은 지진에 의해 큰 손상을 받았던 건물의 남북방향에서 크게 나타났다.

Sensitivity Analysis of Anti-resonance Frequency for Vibration Test Control of a Fixture

  • The test specimen in environmental vibration test is connected to the fixture through several attachment points. The forces generated by the shaker must be transmitted equally to all attachment points. The forces transmitted to attachment points, however, are different because of the flexural vibration of the fixture. The variations of the transmitted force cause the under-test, especially at anti-resonance frequencies, in vibration test control. Anti-resonance frequencies at the attachment points of the fixture must be same in order to avoid the under-test in vibration test control. The structural modification of the fixture is needed so that anti-resonance frequencies at attachment points have the same value. In this paper, the method to calculate the anti-resonance frequencies and those sensitivities is presented. This sensitivity analysis is applied to the structural modification of the fixture excited at multi-points by the shaker. The antiresonance frequencies at the attachment points of the fixture can have the same value after structural modification, and the under-test in the vibration test control can be removed. Several computer simulations show that the proposed method can remove the under-tests, which are not removed in conventional vibration test control.

Utilizing virtual vibration tests to optimize physical endurance tests

  • Physical tests are performed at various stages of the development cycle of a product, from prototype validation to product qualification. Although costly, there are growing demands for qualification tests like endurance vibration testing to be more representative of the real world. At the same time there are growing demands to assess the durability of these items based on FEA simulation. In this paper, we will explain how to set up a CAE-based test and how to correlate the results with some physical measurements. Specific assumptions will be explained and some advantages of using virtual tests will be highlighted such as the reduction of the number of prototypes needed, investigations on failures, evaluation of the level of reliability via sensitivity analysis, evaluation of the margins are at the end of a successful test. This presentation will therefore focus on explaining and showing how virtual tests can enrich the exploitation of physical tests.

  • 우주환경시험팀에서는 발사환경 시 진동 시험을 위해 진동 테스트 장비를 운영 중에 있으며 이를 이용하여 여러 위성 프로그램의 환경시험을 성공적으로 수행하였다. 발사체 및 대형위성의 진동시험을 위한 대형 전자기 시스템의 요구를 충족시키기 위해, 직경 3m급 헤드익스펜더를 가진 대형 멀티 전자기 가진 시스템을 개발하고 있다. 개발 시스템은 160 kN의 추력을 가진 3대의 가진 시스템으로 구성되어 있으며 최대 8톤급 시험체의 진동시험과 300 kNm의 횡 하중 지지할 수 있도록 설계되었다. 본 연구에서는 대형 멀티 전자기 가진 시스템 개발 과정에서 요구되는 각 요소의 설계에 대한 연구 결과를 소개하고자 한다.

산업용 인버터의 가속 피로수명 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Accelerated Fatigue Life Testing for Industrial Inverter)

  • Industrial inverters are used in a variety of fields for electric power supply. They may be exposed to vibration and heat once they are installed. This study focused on a framework of accelerated life testing of an industrial inverter considering fatigue damage as the primary source of deterioration. Instead of analyzing detailed failure mechanisms and the product's vulnerability to them, the potential of fatigue failure is considered using the fatigue damage spectrum calculated from the environmental vibration signals. The acceleration and temperature data were gathered using field measurement and spectral analysis was conducted to calculate the vibration signal's power spectral density (PSD). The fatigue damage spectrum is then calculated from the input PSD data and is used to design an accelerated fatigue life testing. The PSD for the shaker table test is derived that has the equivalent fatigue damage to the original input signal. The tests were performed considering the combined effect of random vibration and elevated temperature, and the product passed all the planned tests. It was successfully demonstrated that the inverter used in this study could survive environmental vibration up to its guarantee period. The fatigue damage spectrum can effectively be used to design accelerated fatigue life testing.

측면 절개된 판형 스프링으로 지지된 경수로 연료봉 진동의 실험적 고찰 (An Experimental Study on the Vibration of the PWR Fuel Rod Supported by the Side-sloted Plate Springs)

  • One of the methods that are used to compare and verify the supporting performance of the spacer grids developed is the vibration characteristic test. A modal test in this paper is performed for a dummy rod 3,847 mm tall supported by eight New Doublet (ND) spacer grids. For the vibration test in air, nine accelerometers, one displacement sensor and one shaker are used for acquiring signals, and an I-DEAS TDAS software Is employed for analyzing the signals. Also, a finite element (FE) analysis is performed by a beam-spring simple model and a contact model simulating the contact phenomenon between the rod and the ND spring. And then, the results of the modal testing are compared with those of the FE analysis. The natural frequencies as well as the mode shapes obtained by the experiment have a greater similarity to the results by the contact model than the previous beam-spring model. In audition, for grasping whether or not the modal parameters are influenced by where shaking spot is, two kinds of tests are performed : one is for the shaker attached at the fourth span (center), the other is for the shaker at the fifth span that is one span nearer to the bottom of the rod. The latter shows higher MAC than the former Finally, the vibration displacements are measured in the range of 0.l12∼0.214 mm for the excitation force of 0.25∼0.75 N.

Modelling and simulation of a closed-loop electrodynamic shaker and test structure model for spacecraft vibration testing

  • During launch a spacecraft is subjected to a variety of dynamical loads transmitted through the launcher to spacecraft interface or air-born transmission excitations in the acoustic pressure field inside the fairing. As a result, spacecraft are tested on ground to ensure and demonstrate the global integrity of the structure against these loads, to screen the flight hardware for quality of workmanship and to validate mathematical models. This paper addresses the numerical modelling and simulation of the low frequency sine and random vibration tests performed on electrodynamic shaker facilities to comprise the mechanical-borne transmission loads through the launcher to spacecraft interface. Consequently, the paper reviews techniques and methodologies to derive a reliable and representative coupled virtual vibration testing simulation environment based on experimental data. These technologies are explored with the main objectives to ensure a stable, reliable and accurate control while testing. As a result, the use of the derived simulation models in combination with the added value of improved control and signal processing algorithms can lead to a safer and smoother vibration test control of the entire environmental test campaign.

  • 발사환경 시 작용하는 진동 환경을 지상에서 구현하기 위해 가진 시스템을 이용하고 있다. 진동시험은 수직, 수평 방향에 대해 수행되며, 수평방향 시험의 경우 슬립테이블 시스템과 연계하여 시험을 수행하게 된다. 최근 개발 중인 대형 위성의 경우, 위성과 진동 시험기 사이의 연결 구조물의 하중 및 동적 설계 요구 조건을 만족하기 위하여 수평가진 시스템과 열 특성이 매우 다른 스틸 소재를 이용하여 제작하였다. 본 연구에서는 수평가진 시스템과 열팽창 계수가 다른 소재를 이용하는 대형 구조물의 열 특성 및 모멘트 검증 과정과 발생한 문제점을 개선하고자 적용한 안을 제시하고자 한다.
