Free-piston engine system is a new type energy converter which uses a linear motion of piston by using linear generator. In free-piston engine system, the piston is not connected to a crank-shaft. The major advantages of free-piston engine system are high efficiency and low mechanical loss from the absence of motion conversion devices. Linear generator of free-piston engine system is used as generator and starting motor. In design step, considering of back-emf and detent force characteristics for generating mode and thrust and control characteristics for starting mode is needed. In this research, generating mode of flat-type linear generator and tubular-type linear generator is analyzed by finite element analysis method and starting mode of both type linear generators is analyzed by using capability curve. Capability curve is plotted from electrical parameters of both type linear generator and motion profile is calculated from mechanical parameters.
In this paper, three-dimensional finite element approach to determining the number of blows in hammer forging is presented. Energy efficiency which is a major factor affecting the number of blows in hammer forging is assumed to decrease linearly as die-material contact area increases. The approach is applied to predicting the number of blows in counterblow hammer forging of large crank shaft for medium sized ship engine.
In recent years, grinding techniques for precision machining of astainless steel used in shaft, screw parts and clear value have been improved by using superabrasive wheel and precision grinding machine. The completion of optimum dressing of superabrasive wheel makes possible the effective percision grinding of stainless steel. However, the present dressing system cannot have control of optimum dressing of the superabrabive wheel. In this study, a new system and the grinding mechanism of optimum in-process electrolytic dressing were proposed. This system can carry out optimum in-process dressing of superabrasive wheel. Therefore, the optimum in-process electrolytic dressing is a good method to obtain the efficiency and mirror-like grinding of stainless steel(SUS304).
This paper presents a new road generative system that employs a pad of preventive overspeed or tollgate. The system consists of pad, shaft, torsional damper, oneway-clutch, gear system, and electricity generator components. When the car driven through the road generation system, it occurred to surplus energy in the DC power. In order to maximize the power of electricity energy harvester, the simulation software is developed. It is used to determine parametric dimension for optimal design with the theoretically calculated results from the simulation software. The transient responses at the conditions of low and high vehicle speed are compared with the calculated results as torque, impact force, power, out energy etc. Consequently, before design a road generation system, the analysis of simulation results shows that the proposed concept and system has efficiency and confidence.

Marine reduction gears are usually used to increase the propulsion efficiency of propellers for ships powered by medium and small sized high speed diesel engines. Most of shaft systems adopt flexible couplings to absorb the transmitted vibratory torque from the engines to the reduction gears and to prevent the chattering phenomenon of reduction gears. However some elastic couplings show non-linear characteristics due to the variable torque transmitted from the main engines and the change of ambient temperature. In this study dynamic characteristics of flexible couplings sare investigated and their effects upon various vibratory conditions of propulsion systems are clarified. A calculation program of torsional vibration for the propulsion systems are clarified. A calculation program of Results of the program developed are compared with ones of the existing linear method and propulsion systems with the elastic couplings the transfer matrix method is adopted which is found to give satisfied results.

Recently, as a result of the application of large and multi-blade propellers with high efficiency for large vessels, the vertical bending stiffness of propulsion shafting system tends to be declined. For some specific vessels, the shaft arrangement leads to the forward stern tube bearing to be omitted, decreasing vertical bending stiffness. In this respect, decreased vertical bending stiffness causes the problem which is the blade order resonance frequency to be placed within the operational rpm range of propulsion shafting system. To verify whirling vibration, the measurement should be carried out covering from operating rpm up to target rpm, however, the range is un-measurable generally. In order to resolve the measurement issue, this study shows the measuring method and the assessment method of relevant natural frequency of whiling vibration by using measured harmonic order component of whirling vibration.
This paper proposes an efficient mechanism design system of multi-stage gear drives including not only parallel shaft gears but also non-parallel gears such as bevel and worm gear drives. The system automatically generates three dimensional structures of specification-adjusted mechanisms, and shows the sorted list of the mechanisms according to the evaluation result by using a fuzzy expert system. The list can be used as reliable candidates of the spatial mechanism structures of multi-stage gear drives. Thus, it is expected that the system can increase the efficiency of design and cut off the expenses of preliminary design considerably.
Prime movers in most large merchant ships adapt two stroke low speed diesel engine which has higher efficiency, mobility and durability. However, severe torsional vibration in these diesel engines may be induced by higher fluctuation of combustion pressures. Consequently, it may lead sometimes to propulsion shafting failure due to the accumulated fatigue stresses. Shaft fatigue strength analysis had been done traditionally in time domain but this method is complicated and difficult in analysing bi-modal vibration system such as the case of cylinder misfiring condition. In this paper authors introduce an assessment method of fatigue strength estimation for propulsion shafting system with two stroke low speed diesel engine in the frequency domain.
In the past two stroke low speed diesel engine were widely used for marine propulsion. these engine have many merit for example, higher thermal efficiency and durability. however, shaft vibration problem was continuously rise up due to large power of two stroke low speed diesel engine. specially, the initial stage engine revolution counter & stress has acculated. For that reason, sometimes occurred crankshaft crack accident. In this study, regarding the initial stage engine, trying to analyze what is cause the crack phenomenon using by latest torsional vibration calculation program & measurement equipment.

A prototype motorised hand-held mango harvester was designed and fabricated at the faculty of Engineering , University of Agriculture Malaysia. The harvester is aimed at reducing the harvesting operation time, improving the working comfort during the operation and increasing the harvesting capacity. The mango harvester consists of gripping and detaching devices, a power transmission shaft with a 12 V battery operated motor and an aluminium pole together with a collecting chute. Preliminary observation on the harvester's performance showed significant and satisfactory results. It was found out that the magno harvester was capable of harvesting on an average six seconds for each fruit detachment. Further study is being conducted to improve the efficiency and capacity of the mango harvester.
