The gas ventilated by supercavitation splits into smaller bubbles and follows the water passage of the cavitation tunnel. The bubbles quickly return to the test section by rather high speed flow, and interrupt the observation of the supercavitation. To secure clear observation in the test section, the bubble collecting section(settling chamber) of large volume is prepared to collect bubbles in the water passage ahead of the test section. The bubble collecting section should provide enough buoyancy effect to the bubbles for proper bubble collecting. However, rather high-speed oncoming flow produces non-uniform velocity distribution and deteriorates buoyancy effect in the bubble collecting section. In the present study, the bubble collecting space and three porous plates are designed and analyzed through numerical methods, and the bubble collecting function is experimentally validated by 1/10-scaled model in terms of the formation of uniformly low velocity distribution in the bubble collecting section.
There are many possible disturbance sources on such a spacecraft, but reaction wheel assembly (RWA) which is generally used for spacecraft attitude control is anticipated to be the largest. These effects on degradation of performance of spacecraft such as attitude stability. In reaction wheel, disturbance caused by imbalance and speed error. It is hard to emulate speed error disturbance because it is not coincide with wheel frequency. This paper concentrates on emulating and analyzing the speed error disturbance. Firstly, classify the causes that lead to speed error disturbance which generate RPM fluctuation. Secondly, simulated with disturbance driver module and reaction wheel assembly which are developed by Spacecraft Control Lab. Experimental investigations have been carried out to test the disturbance emulator module as a disturbance generator for RWA. Measurements and test have been conducted on various fault. Frequency analysis of test data show that speed error disturbance effects on wheel settling wheel speed or fluctuation type.
This study was carried out to develop a microcomputer-based data acquisition and control system which was able to collect the data of engine performance test automatically and control the speed and load of the engine. The results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. The signal processing devices, which were able to measure cylinder pressure, coolant temperature, compositions of exhaust gas, fuel consumption, engine rpm and torque etc., were developed. The results of calibration showed that all of devices had high accuracy ranging from 0.3% to 0.69% respectively. 2. The PIA (peripheral interface adapter) for interfacing digital signal and PTM (programmable timer module) for displaying real time every 0.0408 sec were designed and developed. 3. An engine-speed control system using a stepping motor and driver was developed. The control system had the stability, and faster settling time than the manual control system. 4. The automatic control system of electrical dynamometer, which was able to control the speed and load of dynamometer, was developed with a SSD (shackleton system driver) and D/A converter. 5. The computer programs, which were able to collect and process the data of engine tests, were developed using both the machine language and BASIC.
Fuel efficiency in tractor operations dep6nds on the selection of transmission gears and upon the engine being operated at or near maximum torque much of time. The objective of this study was to develop automatic control systems for tractor transmission ratio and governor setting so that the engine is operated at or near maximum torque as much of time as possible. An indoor test unit, which can be used to simulate tractor operation, was built in order to investigate the system design parameters and test the performance of the control system designed. The test-unit consists of engine, gear-type transmission, dynamometer, and control systems for transmission ratio and engine speed. Governor setting lever was controlled by a step motor, and the clutch and transmission levers were controlled by hydraulic cylinders and solenoid valves. The control systems showed good time responses which are assumed to be suitable for optimal tractor operation. The time required for shifting gears from clutch disengagement to engagement was about 1 second, which is almost the same as that for manual shift. And the settling time for engine speed control system was about 5 to 6 seconds.
Accurately measuring the hydraulic conductivity of dredged slurry (HCODS) is a difficult task and usually requires highly developed experimental techniques. To resolve such problem, this paper presents a novel laboratory method, where a double drainage sedimentation test (DDST) is proposed to generate a downward seepage after the end of primary consolidation (EOP). Based on the established stress equilibrium equations, it is figured out that the determination of local hydraulic gradients requires the effective stress distribution to be measured. Accordingly, an additional single drainage sedimentation test (SDST) with the same initial water content is performed in the novel laboratory method, which can be utilized to establish the relationship between effective stress and water content for investigated slurry. Thus, HCODS can be determined via a pair of SDST and DDST, with the water contents after the EOP measured. The corresponding calculation procedure is given in details. With a simply-designed settling column, the hydraulic conductivity tests were performed on three types of dredged slurry. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the novel laboratory method in measuring HCODS.
The dredged soils of western sea of Korea have been used as the fill materials because it possess the characteristics that constitute silt, silty sand and sand mainly. However, a study on dredged soils as the fill materials is insufficient. Hence, in this present study, the application the dredged soils of western sea of Korea as the fill materials was confirmed. Primary, the composition characteristics of the ground was analyzed to confirm the application on dredged soils as the fill materials by the piezo-cone penetration test. In laboratory test, it was performed the self-weight consolidation test for mechanical characteristics of the dredged soils. The direct shear test using self-weight consolidation test sample for shear strength characteristics was performed after self-weight consolidation test. Additionally, the mechanical characteristics of the dredged soils on elapsed time using self-weight consolidation test sample, which is drained naturally, was evaluated. The dredged soils of western sea of Korea show that unit weight and shear strength is increased as natural drain time elapses.

Diagnosis on setteability based on human operator's experimental knowledge, which could be established by long term operation, is a limit factor to construction of automation control system in wastewater treatment plant. On-line SVI(Sludge Volume Index) analyzer was developed which can measure SV30 automatically by image capture and image analysis method. In this paper, information got by settling process was studied using On-line SVI analyzer for better operation & management of WWTPs. First, SV30 detection algorithm was developed using image capture and image analysis for settling test and it showed that automatic detection is feasible even if deflocculation and bulking was occurred. Second, turbidity assessment model was developed using image analysis.
The purpose of this study was to develop position control system of an electric actuator for automatic shuttle shifting of a tractor. The electric actuator was installed at the link of the forward-reverse gearshift of the tractor transmission, and controlled in the ranges of forward, neutral, and reverse positions. The position control system of the electric actuator was developed based on PID (Proportional Integral Derivative) controller and transfer function of the electric actuator. The coefficients of the PID controller were determined by Ziegler-Nichols (Z-N) method and optimized using simulation program. The prototype AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) test unit of the tractor was installed and used to evaluate the performance of the position control. The evaluation system for the control performance consisted of forward-reverse actuator, motor driver, and controller. The tests were conducted as the controlled positions of the actuator were changed from neutral position to forward, neutral, and reverse positions in sequence. The sequential tests were repeated 20 times. The operations of changing the gearshift were considered as the step response of the control system. Maximum overshoot, settling time, and steady-state error were analyzed. The results showed that performance of the position control system was reasonable and qualified. The maximum overshoots, the steady-state errors, and the settling times of the position control system were 10~20%, 1~5%, and 0.92~1.49 sec, respectively. The modifications of the electric actuator will be required to enhance the performance of position control during field operation.

This study was conducted to test the effect of residual Al on plankton community after dissolved air flotation (DAF) application. Growth rate of phytoplankton after DAF application ($0.37day^{-1}$) was about 2 times lower than that before DAF application ($0.70day^{-1}$). Under the condition of addition of nitrogen and phosphorus without light, growth rate phytoplankton in treatment without residual Al increased in difference with showing the negative growth rate in treatment with residual Al. Under the condition of light without addition of nutrient, growth rate of phytoplankton was no noticeable difference between the before and after DAF application. The relatively high settling rate (0.47 m/day) was observed in treatment after DAF application. Although the abundance of rotifer decreased, the abundance of copepod and cladoceran such as Daphnia galeata, Diaphanosoma sp. and Bosmina longirostris with relative higher grazing was no noticeable difference between the before and after DAF application. In the treatments before and after DAF application with zooplankton, growth rate of phytoplankton was $0.41{\pm}0.08day^{-1}$, $0.20{\pm}0.03day^{-1}$, respectively. This difference was in treatment after DAF application similar with those in treatments before and after DAF application without zooplankton. Those indicate that the filter-feeding effect of zooplankton on phytoplankton community may be not changed by residual Al after the DAF application. These results suggest that residual Al after DAF application be to improve water quality by inhibition of growth rate as well as increasing settling rate of phytoplankton.

In this study, experiments for measurements of entrainment rate of fluid mud were carried out using annular flume domestically for the first time. Six entrainment tests using kaolinite sediments were conducted with different initial concentrations of fluid mud. It is shown that sediment settling counteracts the otherwise buoyancy dependent entrainment of fluid mud, and that the settling effect leads to a measurably decreased entrainment rate at higher Richardson numbers in comparison with entrainment of salt water, due to additional dissipation of turbulent kinetic energy in the interfacial layer. Through the comparison with previous other studies, the overall performance of the annular flume, the experimental procedure and the test results in simulating the entrainment of fluid mud are shown to be good enough to verify.
