  • This research was to examine the differences in post-harvest quality of melons depending on the harvest time after fruit setting. Musk melon cultivar 'K3' plants were grown in glass house conditions with a hydroponic system, and the fruits were harvested at 50, 60, and 70 days after fruit setting. The post-harvest characteristics of melons stored at 7℃ were measured over 32 days. The harvested fruits at 50, 60, 70 days after fruit setting did not differ significantly in weight, height, or size. Solid sugar content was highest in the fruits harvested at 70 days after fruit setting, but firmness, L* value, and respiration rate were highest in the fruits harvested at 50 days after fruit setting. When the harvested melons were stored at 7℃, 'K3' melons responded differently according to the harvest days after fruit setting. The major changes during storage of 'K3' melons can be summarized as follows: Firmness, respiration, moisture content, and general appearance index during storage were highest in the melons harvested at 50 days after fruit setting, but soluble solid content, fresh weight loss, and sensory evaluation were high in the melons harvested at 60 and 70 days after one. During storage at 7℃, there were no significant differences in the appearance of 'K3' melons harvested at different periods after fruit setting, but difference in soluble solid content and taste were noted. It is recommended that the fruit of 'K3' melon plants be harvested about 60 days after fruiting to provide consumers with the highest quality for taste and for storage.

  • Assessment of setting process of concrete is important as it provides useful information to schedule concreting work in construction site. Electrical impedance measurement method, which utilizes the change of electrical resistance of concrete, has been applied to assess setting process of cement-based materials. However, the applicability of the method has been demonstrated only for cement paste and mortar. The main purpose of this research is to develop the electrical impedance based setting process assessment for concrete. To this end, electrical impedance response model for concrete should be developed in advance since it is essential to estimate the electrical resistance of concrete from measured impedance response. The electrical resistance of concrete is a key parameter for the setting process assessment. In this study electrical impedance responses of the concrete in setting process are measured and analyzed. Thereby, an electrical impedance response model of the liquid state concrete is developed and schematically validated.

  • This paper reports the influence of super retarding agent(SRA) on the setting time of concrete incorporating mineral admixture including fly ash(FA), expansive additive(EA), silica fume(SF), blast furnace slag(BS) and blast furnace slag along with fly ash(BS+FA). An increase in SRA resulted in retarding the setting time of control concrete, while the use of mineral admixture led to a delay of setting time markedly, compared with that of control concrete under no SRA content. Meanwhile, An increase in SRA in concrete with mineral admixture exhibited comparable setting delay with control concrete. Furthermore, in case of the use of BS and SF, acceleration of setting time was observed with increase of SRA content. It is considered that proper dosage of SRA of concrete with SF and BS to secure similar setting delay with control concrete require rather larger than that of control concrete. Accordingly, For concrete with mineral admixture, in order to decide the proper dosage of SRA, application of correction factors is needed.

  • Background: Early rehabilitation after partial meniscectomy is important to recover the balance of the vastus medialis oblique and vastus lateralis and prevent pathological problems in the lower extremities and the whole body. Objective: To compare muscle activations for patients after partial meniscectomy. Design: Dual-group Pretest-Posttest Design from the Quasi-Experimental Research. Methods: Twenty participants after partial meniscectomy were recruited and were randomly divided into a Q-setting sensorimotor training group (QSMTG) and Q-setting exercise group (QSEG). Muscle activity of the vastus medialis oblique and vastus lateralis was measured before and after intervention. Results: In the two groups, the vastus medialis oblique and vastus lateralis activations increased significantly (P<.05). The Q-setting sensorimotor training group showed more increases than the Q-setting exercise group, and there were significant differences between the groups (P<.05). The activation ratio of the vastus medialis oblique and vastus lateralis had increasingly significant differences in the Q-setting sensorimotor training group (P<.05), and there were no significant differences between the groups (P>.05). Conclusion: Q-setting exercise with sensorimotor training was a useful method that improved the balance of vastus medialis oblique (VMO) and vastus lateralis (VL) activity after meniscectomy.

  • This study introduces an automated Praat script allowing optimal formant analysis for children's vowels. Using Burg's algorithm in Praat, formants can be extracted by setting the maximum formant value and the number of formants. The optimal formant setting was determined by identifying the two conditions, F1 and F2, with minimum standard deviations. When applying the optimal formant setting determined by the script, the results of normality tests were not significant among all vowels except /e/ for the maximum formant value, and among the vowels /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, /u/ and /ʌ/ for the number of formants. This indicates that when analyzing the formants of children's vowel sounds, the unilateral application of a parameter setting (the maximum formant value and the number of formants) to all vowels is problematic. The performance of the optimal formant setting script was evaluated along with 3 different algorithm in order to determine whether it properly extracts formants for children's vowels. To this end, Korean monophghongs of 6-year-old children were collected and the Praat scripts were applied to the data. Resultant Formant plots and statistical analysis showed that optimum_script and qtone_script, which links to the perceptual unit, performed very well in formant extraction compared to the remaining 2 scripts.

Some Questions on the Effect of an Arbitral Award and Restriction of Trial Level in Other Separate Actions Under the 2016 Korean Arbitration Act (2016년 중재법상의 중재판정의 효력에 대한 몇 가지 의문과 별소의 심급 제한)

  • This paper examines some questions and issues of the effect of an arbitral award, and discusses about the restriction of the trial level in other separate actions permitted under the existence of grounds of setting aside arbitral award after the amendment of the Arbitration Act in 2016. Because there are no interests of litigation in the action for setting aside arbitral award due to the exclusion of res judicata by provisory clause of Article 35, filing an action for setting aside is not allowed even when the grounds of setting aside exist. If we examine the precedent on possibility of retrial for excluding the outward form of invalid judgement, we can find that the court did not approve the retrial. Therefore, the action for setting aside that which is for excluding the outward form of an arbitral award will not be allowed for filing. On the issue of whether an arbitral award having a ground for setting aside can be an object of the action for setting aside for excluding its outward form or not, the views of scholars are divided. In the case of an arbitral award that has grounds for setting aside, it could be interpreted that the arbitral award would not have a formale Rechtskraft or effect of sentence (bindende Kraft). Even if there is formale Rechtskraft or effect of sentence (bindende Kraft), the significance of existence of action for setting aside arbitral award under paragraph 1 of Article 36 is reduced because other actions separate from arbitration is permitted under the 2016 Act. The amendment of the Arbitration Act in 2016 provides an opportunity to review the position and the role of action for setting aside the arbitral award. It also requires further studies on efficiently treating other actions separate from arbitration. Because the restriction of the trial level of other separate actions can make arbitration active by making arbitration procedures become 3 trial levels from 4 trial levels, it needs to be solved with legislative action. Specifically, if the trial starts at the stage of trial on appeal, it can utilize the strength of both the arbitration and the litigation, playing a chief role in boosting arbitration by removing the problems of action for setting aside and enabling arbitration institutes and the person interested to promote the activation of arbitration.

  • This paper reports the relation of concrete setting characteristic and lateral pressure in mass concrete wall such as side wall of LNG underground storage tank. In order to estimate the lateral pressure, initial setting time of low heat cement concrete with type of mineral admixture was measured for three concrete mixtures(W/P=41.6%) containing limestone powder, fly ash, and slag powder. As a result, the lateral pressure of the concrete containing limestone powder was the smallest than those of other concretes as well as the initial setting time.
