  • The flash point is one of the most important physical properties to charaterize fire and explosion hazard of liquid solutions. The maximum flash point of liquid mixture is larger than those of the individual components. In this study, the flash points of 2-pentanol+acetic acid system were measured by Seta flash closed cup tester. This system exhibited the maximum flash point behavior. The flash points were estimated by the Raoult's law and the optimization methods using the van Laar and Wilson equations. The calculated values by optimization methods were found to be better than those based on the Raoult's law.

  • A new cyclopoid species belonging to the genus Metacyclops Kiefer, 1927 is described, based upon the specimens from a temporary pool in a forest of Mt. Phnom Domnak Dambouk, situated in the southwestern part of Cambodia. Metacyclops woni sp. nov. is characterized by its quite short caudal rami, about 2.5 times longer than wide, with a spinule row on anterior quarter of lateral margin. This new species belongs to the species group with the spine formula 3,4,4,3 of swimming legs 1-4. Among the members of the species group with the combination of characters of 11-segmented antennule and a single apical spine on the second endopodal segment of leg 4, it most resembles M. deserticus Mercado-Salas and Suárez-Morales, 2013 from Mexico in carrying an outermost caudal seta slightly longer than the innermost caudal seta and an apical spine on the second endopodal segment of leg 4 slightly shorter than the segment. However, it differs clearly from the present new species by much longer caudal rami with lateral caudal seta at nearly halfway of lateral margin of the ramus and smooth posterior margin of intercoxal sclerites of legs 1-4. This is the first record of the genus Metacyclops from Cambodia and the fourth one from Southeast Asia.

  • Biological attachment device is optimized in insect legs for attachment onto the variety of natural substrate. We have studied the microstructural characteristics of the tarsal appendages in the ladybug Harmonia axyridis using scanning electron microscopy to reveal the attachment system of their legs. The attachment devices are composed of claws and adhesive pads. The claws are connected with pretarsal segment, and their apical diverged hooks are developed to hold rough substrates. In contrast, the adhesive pads have an adhesive function onto smooth surface. The pads are interspersed at the ventral part of each tarsomere, and are composed of two kinds of hairy setae. The discoid tip seta (DtS) has a spoon-shaped endplate usually with a rounded concave structure, whereas the pointed tip seta (PtS) has a pointed tip, usually with a hooked endplate. While the PtS is broadly localized concentrically on the marginal area of both the proximal and distal pads, the DtS can be seen at the central areas of each adhesive pad except for the hind legs. Our findings demonstrate the presence of the direction-dependence pattern of the fibrillar system as well as a functional modification of the tenent setae to achieve proper contact with almost any kind of substrates.

  • The flash point is one of the most important parameters used to characterize the ignition and explosion hazards of liquids. Flash points were measured for several binary systems containing toluene, including {methanol+toluene}, {ethanol+toluene}, and {1-propanol+toluene}. Experiments were performed according to the standard test method using a SETA closed cup flash point tester. The measured flash points were compared with the predicted values calculated using the following $G^E$ models: Wilson, NRTL, and UNIQUAC. The average absolute deviation between the predicted and measured lower flash point was less than 1.69 K.

  • The flash point is one of the most important indicators of the flammability of liquid solutions. The flash point is the lowest temperature at which there is enough concentration of flammable vapor to form an ignitable mixture with air. In this study the flash points of ternary liquid solutions, n-nonane+n-decane+n-dodecane system, were measured using Seta flash closed cup tester. The measured values were compared with the calculated values using Raoult's law and empirical equation. The calculated data by empirical equation described the measured values more effectively than those calculated by Raoult's law.

  • The flash point is the major physical property used to characterize the fire hazard of flammable liquid solutions. In the present study, the main focus is on measuring and estimating the flash points for binary flammable mixture. The flash points for n-propanol+propionic acid were measured by Seta flash closed cup apparatus. The experimental data were correlated with the van Laar and NRTL equations through the optimization method. The results estimated by these correlations were compared with the values calculated by the method based on Raoult's law. The optimization method were found to be better than the method based on the Raoult's law.

  • A new species of the canuellid genus Brianola Monard, 1926 (Copepoda: Harpacticoida) was collected during a meiofauna survey in July 2021 at the intertidal muddy sand of Phuket Island, Thailand. Currently, there are only eight known species of Brianola: B. stebleri, B. exigua, B. curvirostris, B. elegans, B. sydneyensis, B. vangoethemi, B. hamondi, and B. haliensis. Thus, the Brianola rawaiensis sp. nov. from Thailand is the ninth species of the genus. The new species, Brianola rawaiensis is most closely related to B. haliensis by sharing a four-segmented antennule in females and five-segmented antennule in males, eight-segmented antennary exopod and three-segmented antennary endopod, and P1 exp-3 with 5 spines/setae. However, B. rawaiensis sp. nov. is different from B. haliensis by having: 1) P1 exp-1 with 1 outer pinnate spine, 2) P1 exp-2 with inner plumose seta, 3) P2 exp-3 with 3 setae/spines, 4) P2 enp-1 with one inner plumose seta, 5) P4 enp-1 with inner seta. Sexual dimorphism is expressed in the antennule and segmentation of the urosome. Ovigerous female bearing one egg sac with 20 eggs.

  • The flash point is used to categorize inflammable liquids according to their relative flammability. Such a categorization is important for the safe handling, storage, and transportation of inflammable liquids. The flash point temperature of two binary liquid mixtures(n-octane+n-decane and n-octane+n-dodecane) has been measured for the entire concentration range using Seta-flash closed cup tester based on the ASTM D3278 method. The closed cup flash point temperature was estimated using the UNIFAC(Universal Functional Activity Coefficient) group contribution model. The experimentally derived flash point was also compared with the predicted flash point from the UNIFAC model. The UNIFAC model is able to estimate the flash point fairly well for n-octane+n-decane mixture and n-octane+n-dodecane mixture.

  • In this Paper are described the indirect induction heated boiler and induction heated hot air producer using the voltage-fed series resonant high-frequency inverter which can operate in the frequency range from 20kHz to 50kHz. A specially designed induction heater, which is composed of laminated stainless assembly with many tiny holes and interconnected spot welding points between stainless plates, is inserted into the ceramic type vessel with external working coil. This working coil is connected to the inverter and turbulence fluid through this induction heater to moving fluid generates in the vessel. The operating performances of this unique appliance in next generation and its effectiveness are evaluated and discussed from a practical point of view.

  • A new species of Tanaidacea is described from the eastern coast of Korea, under the name of Apseudomorpha magna in the family Metapseudidae. The new species can be distinguished from its congeners by the following combination of characters: pleonites 2 and 5 and pleotelson have a large lateral seta; pleopods are biramous, in five pairs, each bearing a two-segmented exopod and a single-segmented endopod; the maxillular palp is two-segmented, with five setae on its distal segment; the pleotelson has a large seta on each anterolateral process; and the mandibular palp has 2, 7, and 13 setae on the first to third segments, respectively.
