  • LH has been using ultra high strength reinforcing bars (SD500 and SD600), since 2011. Such a change requires an adjustment of the old extra rates of bar splice to reflect use of ultra high strength reinforcing bars, as these rates had been set based on SD400 bars. It is particularly difficult to calculate precisely rebar lap-splice locations for large areas, such as those in apartment buildings. This research aims to adjust the extra rates of bar splice to reflect a reasonable rate; the rebar lap-splice length is not an exact estimation, but instead, an extra rates of bar splice is set and the rebar lap-splice length is increased by 2% (D 10) - 7% (025) depending on the bar size. The subjects of this study are LH apartments undergoing frame construction. We studied the quantity estimations from the design drawings, and analyzed the settlement quantities of construction field. The results of the study revealed that, when each of the quantities are analyzed, consider adjusting the extra rates of bar splice of some rebar to 1% - 3.5%. This was caused by an overuse of reinforcing bars in onsite construction and the use of supporting bars that have not been reflected in the documents, among other reasons. Based on the results of our study, an improvement plan for the current extra rates of bar splice seems to be necessary, cutting or raising the rate depending on the analysis of the data. Through this study, we expect to contribute to the calculation of reasonable construction costs, improvements in the quality of rebar work, and improvements in the capacity of design techniques for apartment buildings.

  • study proposes a new key-segment closing method using thermal effect as a substitute to the process of set-back and reset-back for the FCM construction of a partially earth-anchored cable-stayed bridge. The proposed method is to artificially heat up the inside of girders located in the main span before closing the key-segment in a cantilever state. Then, the heat is removed after finishing the closure in a continuous bridge state. Using the changes in boundary conditions and structural systems, the proposed method can generate new member forces that reflect the advantage of the partially earth-anchored cable system. From the construction sequence analysis, it is found that the proposed method increases the efficiency of a partially earth-anchored cable-stayed bridge by reducing the compressive axial forces on the girders.

  • This study utilized the wearing test of subjects and a preference survey to determine wearing preference on types of blouses according to shoulder angle. The shoulder angles of the subjects were set as average shoulder, slopping shoulder, and square shoulder. The blouse sleeves were set as set-in, raglan, and kimono according to five domestic clothing construction books. A total of 15 blouses were made and tested by different bodices and sleeve types. The wearing test of subjects had the human subjects evaluate the appearance of the subject looking at the mirror while standing as well as evaluated the sensation test while not looking at the mirror. The preference survey was given to 100 females and was conducted using photos with combinations of three types of sleeves and shoulder angles in a survey under the same conditions. The average shoulder showed that set-in with the highest score in the wearing test was also preferred in the preference survey. The slopping shoulder evaluated the highest score in the wearing test by mirror; however, the preference survey showed that raglan was the most preferred choice. The squared shoulder showed that raglan with a high score in the wearing test by mirror was also preferred in the preference survey.

  • Up to now, most the fenestration industry is consisted of glazing and window frame in Korea. According to the Fenestration Energy Consumption Efficiency Rating System and Energy Saving Design Standards of Buildings, u-value of fenestration is defined as the value of calculation with glazing and frame. For this reason, when applying for a building permit, in most cases, the official approval test report of the set of windows and doors is used. Nevertheless, in windows construction progresses, most construction manager take delivery of the glazing and frame separately. For those reason, windows and doors are constructed regardless of the report of the Fenestration Energy Consumption Efficiency Rating System in most construction fields. From now on, the research of the connection method between reality of policy and reality of construction fields should be carried out.

  • All infrastructure projects are said to be inter-dependent, uncertain and labour-intensive in nature. There is no exception for building services sub sector. For a real time project such as 'The construction, extension and refurbishment of Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital at Tirupathy, India with total area of 45,000 square feet at an estimated cost of 1100 million rupees, a generic process model is developed to simulate the effect of set of identified variables on construction project. The 'Stocks and Flows' of dynamic model affords relevant insights to project managers, who apply this knowledge when designing better performance through more appropriate project planning. It is concluded from the model-based approach that building services works can be improved through specific better focussed managerial efforts, such as an increasing coordination effectiveness at the planning stage, clarifying prerequisite conditions prior to installations. Otherwise, pending works arising from work clashes can lead to knock-on effects resulting in productivity constraints and pressures, as well as more rework and demolition. Current study reveals that the model enables deep insight into various interdependent processes, their by improving construction performance levels, by addressing the dynamics of design errors and defective works, and recovering delayed schedule.

  • The concept of Digital Twin (DT) has been receiving an increasing amount of attention in the construction management and building engineering research domains. Although the benefits of DT are evident, confusion with regards to the concept of DTs and its relationship with others such as Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Internet of Things (IoT) remains. This paper aims to help allay this confusion through an in-depth analysis of the definition of DT and its unique characteristics. As such, a review of the past and current definitions of DT and CPS in various domains is performed. An analysis is then conducted to identify the overlaps between the definition of DT with CPS, as well as with BIM and IoT. Finally, given the relatively closer resemblances between DT and CPS, a set of four distinct dimensions enabling their comparative analysis and highlighting their shared and unique characteristics is discussed. This paper contributes to the existing literature by exploring the definition of DT and presenting two original conceptualizations that help further refine the concept of DT in the construction and management and building engineering domain.
