  • FRN (Full range Naphtha) is distilled from crude oil in a Naphtha Splitter Unit and is separated into the Light Straight Naphtha, Heavy Naphtha, and kerosene according to the boiling point in sequence. This separation is conducted using a series of binary-like columns. In this separation method, the energy consumed in the reboiler is used to separate the heaviest components and most of this energy is discarded as vapor condensation in the overhead cooler. In this study, the first two columns of the separation process are replaced with the Petlyuk column. A structural design was exercised by a stage to stage computation with an ideal tray efficiency in the equilibrium condition. Compared to the performance of a conventional system of 3-column model, the design outcome indicates that the procedure is simple and efficient because the composition of the liquid component in the column tray was designed to be similar to the equilibrium distillation curve. An analysis of the performance of the new process indicated an energy saving of 12.3% under same total number of trays and with a saving of the initial investment cost.

  • This study aims to analyze temporal variation of rural tourist potential in village level. In order to analyze the temporal variation, this study applied a green-tourism potential evaluation model(GPEM) to a study area, Namilmyun with 18 villages, which located on county of Kumsan, province of Chungnam. GPEM consists of two factors about human resources, which is quantified by resident population of the village who will be participated in village management for green-tourism, and amenity resources, which is calculated by an evaluation table with 31 criteria and their weighting values. Data surveying for the study area was performed at August 2003 and 2006, respectively, in order to quantity the 31 evaluation criteria of GPEM. From the analysis results, the amenity resources with three sub-classes of industrial, natural, and social resources showed that the evaluation values of 2006 were increased in more than those of 2003, displaying the increase rate of ranging from 108% to 112% in the three sub-classes, except of one village in social resources and three village in natural resources with reduction. In human resources, the evaluation values of 2006 were highly increased more than those of 2003, showing the rate of 556% in the gradient of linear regression line. In green tourism potential in each village, the evaluation results for two time series showed that the potential is increased by time, which the increase rate of the potential is 114%. Ultimately, the results of this study enable us to realize that the green-tourism potential in each village over time is increased, for example, due to developing new facilities in the village by investment of government and participating in rural tourism by resident people over time. From the analysis and results, the methodology of this study can be applied to analyze the temporal variation of the potential for villages having investment from government.

  • The build-up of the heat field in shallow coastal water due to a point source has been investigated using an analytical solution of a time-integral form derived by extending the solutions by Holley(1969) and also presented in Harleman (1971). The uniform water depth is assumed with non-isotropic turbulent dispersion. The alongshore-flow is assumed to be uni-directional, spatially uniform and oscillatory. Due to the presence of the oscillatory alongshore-flow, the heat build-up occurs in an oscillatory manner, and the excess temperature thereby fluctuates in that course and even in the quasi-steady state. A series of calculations reveal that proper choices of the decay coefficient as well as dispersion coefficients are critical to the reliable prediction of the excess temperature field. The dispersion coefficients determine the absolute values of the excess temperature and characterize the shoreline profile, particularly within the tidal excursion distance, while the decay coefficient determines the absolute value of the excess temperature and the convergence rate to that of the quasi-steady state. Within the e-folding time scale $1/k_d$ (where $k_d$ is the heat decay coefficient), heat build-up occurs more than 90% of the quasi-steady state values in a region within a tidal excursion distance (L), while occurs increasingly less the farther we go to the downstream direction (about 80% at 1.25L, and 70% at 1.5L). Calculations with onshore and offshore discharges indicate that thermal spreading in the direction of the shoreline is reduced as the shoreline constraint which controls the lateral mixing is reduced. The importance of collecting long-term records of in situ meteorological conditions and clarifying the definition of the heat loss coefficient is addressed. Interactive use of analytical and numerical modeling is recommended as a desirable way to obtain a reliable estimate of the far-field excess temperature along with extensive field measurements.

  • Medical communication has the effect of increasing the patient's medical treatment satisfaction and medical facility revisit rate through better understanding of the patient, and decreasing the medical law suit rate. One of the methods to enhance medical communication is through doctor coaching. Doctor coaching is a series of coaching procedure that helps the doctors have a better understanding with the patients by enhancing the communication skills of the doctors. The current study analyzed the effect 'coach and coatee's relationship', 'coaching per se', and 'coaching activity' have on coaching satisfaction. As the result, 'coaching activity' related to the coaching program showed the most influence on the coaching satisfaction On the other hand, 'coach and coatee's relationship' and 'coaching per se' did not show any significant influence while 'coach and coatees relationship' even showed negative correlations. Such result gained agreement amongst the doctors about the medical communication enhancement and necessity of doctor coaching and it also implies that intensifying the coaching qualifications and professionalism is necessary for the doctor coaching model. The coach should not only have knowledge regarding the doctor(medical??) communication, but also should endeavor to obtain understanding and knowledge about coaching strategies.

  • Effects of acid ($HNO_3$ and HCl) modification on the adsorption properties of Pb(II) and Cu(II) onto bamboo-based activated carbon (BAC) were investigated through a series of batch experiments. The carbon content increased and oxygen content decreased with acid treatment. $HNO_3$ induced carboxylic acids and hydroxyl functional groups while HCl added no functional group onto BAC. The pseudo-second order model better described the kinetics of Pb(II) and Cu(II) adsorption onto experimented adsorbents, indicating that the rate-limiting step of the heavy metal sorption is chemical sorption involving valency forces through sharing or exchange of electrons between the adsorbate and the adsorbent. The equilibrium sorption data followed both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The adsorption capacities of BAC were affected by the surface functional groups added by acid modification. The adsorption capacities were enhanced up to 36.0% and 27.3% for Pb(II) and Cu(II), respectively by the $HNO_3$ modification, however, negligibly affected by HCl.

  • A video is a vivid medium similar to human's visual-linguistic experiences, since it can inculcate a sequence of situations, actions or dialogues that can be told as a story. In this study, we propose story learning/regeneration frameworks from videos with successive event order supervision for contextual coherence. The supervision induces each episode to have a form of trajectory in the latent space, which constructs a composite representation of ordering and semantics. In this study, we incorporated the use of kids videos as a training data. Some of the advantages associated with the kids videos include omnibus style, simple/explicit storyline in short, chronological narrative order, and relatively limited number of characters and spatial environments. We build the encoder-decoder structure with successive event order embedding, and train bi-directional LSTMs as sequence models considering multi-step sequence prediction. Using a series of approximately 200 episodes of kids videos named 'Pororo the Little Penguin', we give empirical results for story regeneration tasks and SEOE. In addition, each episode shows a trajectory-like shape on the latent space of the model, which gives the geometric information for the sequence models.

  • Objective : Our aim was to evaluate the histopathological effects of tissue adhesives on peripheral nerve regeneration after experimental sciatic nerve transection in rats and to search whether these tissue adhesives may possess a therapeutic potential in peripheral nerve injuries. Methods : This experimental study was performed using 42 female Wistar-Albino rats distributed in 6 groups subsequent to transection of right sciatic nerves. Group I underwent external circumferential neurolysis; Group II received suture repair; Group III had local polymeric hydrogel based tissue adhesive administration; Group IV received suture repair and polymeric hydrogel based tissue adhesive application together; Group V had gelatin based tissue adhesive application and Group VI had suture repair and gelatin based tissue adhesive together. After a 6-week follow-up period, biopsies were obtained from site of neural injury and groups were compared with respect to histopathological scoring based on inflammatory, degenerative, necrotic and fibrotic changes. Results : There were remarkable differences between control group and study groups with respect to inflammation (p=0.001), degeneration (p=0.002), necrosis (p=0.007), fibrosis (p<0.001) and vascularity (p=0.001). Histopathological scores were similar between study groups and the only noteworthy difference was that Group V displayed a lower score for necrosis and higher score in terms of vascularization. Conclusion : Our results imply that tissue adhesives can be useful in repair of peripheral nerve injuries by decreasing the surgical trauma and shortening the duration of intervention. Results with gelatin based tissue adhesive are especially promising since more intense vascularity was observed in tissue after application. However, trials on larger series with longer durations of follow-up are essential for reaching more reliable conclusions.

  • The paradigm of communication is changing by the generalization of mobile computers and the extension of network service. In the mobile messenger communication, people are increasingly using character emoticons to substitute linear text. This means that the character emoticons are functioning as narrative characters so that they are becoming the nonlinear techno-code, which can substitute for the alphabet code. As Vil$\acute{e}$m Flusser said, the post-modern communication is arrived. In this kind of communication, storytelling with character emoticons are effective enough to tell various stories. In this point of view, this paper tries to prove the functions of character emoticons and suggests the classification of the character emoticon series. This paper also structures the post-modern communication model as a new paradigm of visual communication.

  • This study has been divided into two parts, 1) literature review and 2) a case study. Based on literature review and case studies found in Korea and abroad, this study aimed at classifying wildlife passages and establishing their development procedures in order to establish a theoretical ground for the development of wildlife passage as a way to link habitats that have been fragmented by the construction of roads and other developments. The results of the literature review are as follows : 1) Impact of road construction on surrounding ecological environment is found in various aspects. Along with damage of habitats as direct impact, decrease of biodiversity and simplification of species due to limited breeding and movement are cited as possible indirect impact. 2) In order to lessen the impact generated from fragmented habitats, various types of wildlife passage are being developed in Europe and are showing positive results. 3) In Korea, interests on animal passages have been rising recently. The ministry of Environment and local authorities are establishing development plans for the passages. However, practical materials on the usefulness of adoped methods are not available.4) In order to create an effective wildlife passage, decisions have to be made first on basic factors of planning and designing such as ecosystem rehabilitation methods and surveys on wildlife movement routes and habitat environment. Based on this, in a planning and designing stage, the location and type of a passage, size and measures to attract animals and prevent a collision need to be finalized. This should be followed by a series of process of maintenance, management and monitoring after the development. Based on the results of a theoretical study to develop an wildlife passage, Part 2 of this study deals with the results of an experiment through a specific planning and design that includes a process of ecological surveys, site selection, type selection, ecosystem infrastructure, planting design and construction details on an actual study area and presents them as a model project.
