  • Forest biomass is the basis of forest ecosystem. With the rapid development of remote sensing and computer technology, forest biomass estimation using remote sensing data is paid great attention and has acquired great achievements. This article focuses on discussion of methods of forest biomass estimation methods using Terra/MODIS data in Northeast China. The research include: combining the MODIS time series parameters with seasonal characteristics of forest species to identify major forest species; establishing a model to estimate forest biomass based on forest species; analyzing the effects of the existent forest biomass and increasing biomass on terrestrial carbon cycle. This research can help to make clear the mechanism of carbon cycle.

  • This paper proposes and adaptive nonlinear equalizer based on Volterra Series along with M-band wavelet transform(M-DWT). The proposed wavelet transform-domain approach leads to diagonalization of the input vector auto-correlation matrix, which yields clustering its eigenvalue spread around one, and improving the convergence rate of the corresponding transform-domain LMS algorithm. In particular, the proposed adaptive Volterra equalizer is employed to compensate for the output distortion produced by a weakly nonlinear system. Finally, some simulation results obtained by using a TWT amplifier model are provide to demonstrated the converging performance of the proposed approach.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the concept of physical activity. The method was based on the steps of concept analysis by Walker and Avant(1988). The result of this study were as follows; Upon the concept analysis, physical activity is defined as a series of bodily movements which is performed voluntarily by individual. The defining attributes of physical activity were a series of bodily movements, energy expenditure, goal-directedness, and self-control of the body. The antecedents of physical activity were neuromusculoskeletal function, cardiopulmonary function and cognitive function. And the consequences of physical activity were improvement of physical function, induction of fatigue, and need(physiopsychosocial) satisfaction. Further studies are needed to develop the concept of physical activity using the Hybrid model. In addition, considering personal characteristics it is important to study the facilitating factors of physical activity.

  • The main objective of this paper is to explore the feasibility and potential benefits of HFLC series compensator as a power flow controller in an ac power system. To accomplish this goal, the detailed 5 [KHz] model for EMTP simulation study is developed. Among the issues considered are analysis, tank circuit design, link frequency selection, harmonics and filter requirement, control and damping effect. The technical evaluation performed in this research can be used in future power network design and operation.

  • In order to design accurately plastic board drain (PBB) method, it is important to determine the equivalent circle of PBD. In this paper, a series of numerical analyses on soft ground improved by PBD were carried out, in order to investigate the resonable equivalent circle of PBD considering consolidation behavior of improved soft ground by PBD. The applicability of numerical analyses, in which an elasto-viscoplastic three-dimensional consolidation finite element method was applied, could be confirmed comparing with results of a series of model tests on consolidation behaviors of soft ground improved by PBD. And, through the results of the numerical analyses, consolidation behaviors of soft ground during consolidation was elucidated, together with the equivalent circle of PBD considering consolidation behaviors.

  • We address some potential problems with the existing procedures of outlier detection in time series. Also we propose modifications in estimating model parameters and outlier effects in order to reduce the number of tests and to increase the detection accuracy. Experiments with some artificial data sets show that the proposed procedure significantly reduces the number of tests and enhances the accuracy of estimated parameters as well as the detection power.

  • A Prototype reaction wheel, named the Hankuk Aviation University (HAU) reaction wheel, has been developed for KAISTSAT satellite series. Torque and force disturbances are inherent in reaction wheels, and thus the force and torque characteristics should be examined for every newly developed reaction wheel. The torque and force disturbance noises in the prototype HAU reaction wheel are measured with a torque-measuring table developed for the present study. A new measuring procedure based on a simple principle is applied for the measurements. The frequency characteristics of the torque and force noises are analyzed by examining the power spectral density. The effect of the torque noise on the attitude stability is also examined through numerical simulations with a single-axis attitude model. The noise-induced attitude error and jitter and found to be well below the specified error limits for the KAISTSAT satellite series.

  • This paper deals with a novel shunt circuit, which is capable of suppressing multimode vibration amplitudes by using a pair of piezoceramic patches. In order to describe the characteristic behaviors of a piezoelectric damper connected with a series and a parallel resistor-negative capacitor branch circuit, the stiffness ratio and loss factor with respect to the non-dimensional frequency are considered. The mechanism of the shunt damper is also described by considering a shunt voltage constrained by shunt impedance. To obtain a guideline model of the piezo/beam system with a negative capacitive shunting, the governing equations of motion are derived through the Hamilton's principle and a piezo sensor equation as well as a shunt-damping matrix is developed. The theoretical analysis shows that the piezo/beam system combined with a series and a parallel resistor-negative capacitor branch circuit developed in this study can significantly reduce the multiple-mode vibration amplitudes over the whole structural frequency range.

  • In this work, the imaginary part of the inner modulation transfer function of the cutting dynamics is introduced for tool wear monitoring. Time-series method is utilized to construct the generalthree dimensional cutting dynamics whose imaginary part of the inner modulation transfer funcition shows the proportionality to tool wear at the natural frequency of the machine tool dynamics. This modelis reduced to single-input single- output model without altering the proporitonality characteristics to tool wear and implemented to the dual computer system in which one computer performs measurement while the other calculates the imaginary part of the inner modulation transfer function of th cutting dynamics by the batchleast square method. The values of the imaginary part at the natural frequencyof the machine tool structure in the cutting direction are compared to the one calculated during machining with a brand new tool to decide the current stants of the tool. The experiments shows the relevance of the proposed concept.

  • Managerial intuition is a well-recognized cognitive ability but still poorly understood for the purpose of developing effective decision support systems. this research investigates whether the differences in accuracy of "time series forecasting" are related to the differences in one's cognitive style, using statistical test The hypotheses established in the research model did not have positive correlation The lack of correlation between "cognitive style and physiological measures" and accuracy in forecasting may be caused by uncontrolled external variable. Thus, further analyses on physiological characteristics and brainwaves are needed. The approaches such as neural network and data mining are proposed.
