Cyclic behaviour of beam-to-column welded connections

  • In this paper the results of an experimental program devoted to the assessment of the cyclic behaviour of full scale, European type, beam-column subassemblages with welded connections are presented. Six tests (five cyclic and one monotonic) have been carried out on three different series of specimens, encompassing a total of eighteen tests. The three specimen series have been designed with the aim of defining the effect of the column size on the connection behaviour, under different applied loading histories. The tests have evidenced the effect of the column size and panel zone design and of the applied loading history on the cyclic behaviour and failure modes of the connections.

  • The monitoring effectiveness not only depends on the effectiveness of the network, but also the costs of the network. Generally the costs of the monitoring network are mainly on the equipment and personnel; the implementation and maintenance; the observation and sample connection; the sample analysis; and the data storage and processing. The cost of the monitoring network can be expressed as a function of monitoring frequency because the monitoring method can be an automatic or a manual measurement. To determine the sampling frequency of subsidiary groundwater monitoring stations, time series data of national groundwater monitoring stations were used. The proposed optimal sampling frequency for subsidiary groundwater monitoring station is about 7 to 20 days and the average frequency is about 2 weeks.

Effect of Gas Beaming in the Calculation of Tube Conductance (Beaming Effect를 고려한 Tube 연결부의 Conductance 계산)

  • Conductance calculation is essential in designing a vacuum system. Since mathematical solution is nearly impossible except for a few simple cases, it has been so usual to calculate the conductance for a series connection of components using an approximate formula by Oatley. However, Oatley's formula has a fundamental flaw of totally neglecting the effect of gas beaming. In this study, a new technique is suggested for calculating the conductance with the same accuracy as the Monte Carlo method but with much less computing time, and applied to a system of tube connections in series. The effects of gas beaming in the calculation of conductance is analyzed quantitatively by comparing the conductance calculated by this method with those from Oatley's formula.

  • In this paper, we review the basic concept of Evolvable Hardware first. And we examine genetic algorithm processor and hardware reconfiguration method and implementation. By considering complexity and performance of hardware at the same time, we design genetic algorithm processor using modularization and parallel processing method. And we design frame that has connection structure and logic block on FPGA, and embody reconfigurable hardware that do so that this frame may be reconstructed by RAM. Also we implemented ECANS that information processing system such as living creatures'brain using this hardware reconfiguration method. And we apply ECANS which is implemented using the concept of Evolvable Hardware to time-series prediction problem in order to verify the effectiveness.

  • Using power semiconductor switches such as IGBTs diodes and L-C circuits novel repetitive impulse voltage generator is developed. In the presented circuits high voltage pulse is generated by series-connection of capacitors and IGBTs. The charging of capacitors and voltage balance of IGBTs is done automatically. To verify the proposed circuit 20kV, 300A pulse generator is manufactured and tested.

Interlayers of polymer tandem solar cells

  • We present the effect of interlayers of polymer tandem solar cells on their photovoltaic performance. P-type and n-type interlayers are essential for the series-connection of the subcells and enable to form the tandem cell architecture by the solution processing. In this study, we use PEDOT:PSS, nanocrystalline $TiO_2$, and blends of semiconducting polymers and fullerene derivatives as a hole transporting layer, electron transporting layer, and photoactive layers, respectively. We show that photovoltaic performances of polymer tandem solar cells depending on various PEDOT:PSS layers with the different electric conductivity and the various $TiO_2$ layer thickness.

  • Recently, we have developed p-i-n hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) single junction (SJ) thin film solar cells with RF (13,56MHz) plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) systems, and also successfully fabricated the mini-modules (>300$cm^2$), using laser scribing technique to form an integrated series connection, The efficiency of a mini-module was 7.4% (Area=305$cm^2$, $I_{SC}$=0.25A, $V_{OC}$=14.74V, FF=62%).

  • In cancer chemotherapy. it is becoming increasingly clear that the DNA topoisomerases play an active role in the expression of the cytotoxic action of drugs. The amino substituted azaanthraquinones have attracted much interest due to their possible role as topoisomerase inhibitors. In connection with our interests in the design and synthesis of potent topoisomerase inhibitor. we herein described the preparation of a series of benzoquinoxalinedione derivatives. These were designed based on the SAR of azaanthraquinones and structural analysis of products which are fitted with doxorubicin.

  • This paper proposes a new series and parallel Sin+Cos PSS (power system stabilizer) for the purpose of improving the existing PSS1A's performance. The purpose of the PSS is to enhance the damping of power system oscillations through injection of auxiliary signals for an excitation control terminal. The proposed series and parallel Sin+Cos PSS is connected adding the Sin+Cos terms additionally with the serial and parallel connection in a conventional PSS1A. The proposed controller is aimed at considering the damping of oscillation when it changes parameter fluctuations or operational load variations in a power system. The electric power system used is the KEPCO system and the voltage of the power transmission line is 154kV and 345kV. The PSCAD/EMTDC package is used to authorize the effect of the proposed controller. Simulations were shown by and compared with the waveforms for frequency, voltage and electric power.

  • We have investigated the quench behavior of the series connection of resistive type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) components based on YBCO films. Equal shunt resistors $R_s$ across individual SFCL components successfully produced simultaneous Quenches for 5 components in series, resulting in equal application of voltage to all components. If the two components having the highest and the lowest critical currents ($I_c$) quench safely, others quench altogether The highest shunt resistance is to guarantee the safe quenches of all components, leading to the equal voltage applications within the first half cycle after a fault in the short circuit test. The highest $R_s$ was found to be 28 [$\Omega$] for the components in the given quench environment. Considering the safe quenches and protection coordination, the optimal $R_s$ was suggested to be approximately a half of the highest $R_s$,, allowing wide selection of $R_s$ and $I_c$'s. This design provides a practical wav of connecting small SFCL components in series for high voltage application.
