This paper presents the results of a parametric study on the behavior of mechanically stabilized earth retaining wall. It has been recognized that the currently available design guidelines, which is base on the limit equilibrium approach, cannot properly account the interaction effect between the components, construction sequence, and foundation settlement which may impose a significant influence on the wall behavior. A parametric study using finite element analysis was performed to investigate the behavior of MSE wall under different construction conditions and the applicability of the current design approach. In the parametric analysis, the effects of the construction sequence, the surcharge, and the foundation stiffness were studied and a detailed finite element modeling for various components of the system were employed. The results, such as wall displacement and earth pressure distributions, reinforcement forces, vertical stress distribution were then thoroughly analyzed to investigate the effect of construction details on the wall behavior.

In this study, inter-turn short fault models of interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM) are developed by adding saliency modeling to surface-mounted permanent magnet motor models. The saliency model is obtained using the deformed flux models based on both fault-winding flux information and inductance variations caused by cross-flux linkages that depend on the distribution of the same phase windings. By assuming the balanced three-phase current injection, we obtain the positive and negative sequence voltages and the fault current in the positive and the negative synchronous reference frames. The output torque model is developed by adding the magnet and the reluctance torque, which are derived from the developed models. To verify the proposed IPMSM model with an inter-turn short fault, finite element method-based simulation and experimental measurement results are presented.

There are so many methods to estimate the groundwater recharge. These methods can be categorized into four groups. First groupis related to the water balance analysis, second group is concerned with baseflow/springflow recession, and third group is interested in some types of tracers; environmental tracers and/or temperature profile. The limitation of these types of methods is that the estimated results of recharge are presented in the form of an average over some time period. Forth group has a little different approach. They use the time series data of hydraulic head and specific yield evaluated from field test, and the results of estimation are described in the sequential form. But their approach has a serious problem. The estimated results in forth typeof methods are generally underestimated because they cannot consider the discharge phase of water table fluctuation coupled with the recharge phase. Ketchum el. at. (2000) proposed calibrated method, considering recharge- and discharge-coupled water table fluctuation. But the dischargeis considered just as the areal average with discharge rate. On the other hand, there are many methods to estimate the source wavelet with observed data set in geophysics/signal processing and geophysical methods are rarely applied to the estimation of groundwater recharge. The purpose this study is the evaluation of the applicability of one of the geophysical method in the estimation of sequential recharge rate. The applied geophysical method is called minimum entropy deconvolution (MED). For this purpose, numerical modeling with linearized Boussinesq equation was applied. Using the synthesized hydraulic head through the numerical modeling, the relative sequenceof recharge is calculated inversely. Estimated results are very concordant with the applied recharge sequence. Cross-correlations between applied recharge sequence and the estimated results are above 0.985 in all study cases. Through the numerical test, the availability of MED in the estimation of the recharge sequence to groundwater was investigated

SMIL(Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) allows multimedia objects into a synchronized multimedia presentation. In this paper, I propose modeling rules, formal models, modeling function and an algorithm for SMIL documents using use case diagram and sequence diagram of UML(Unified Modeling Language)to Develop for SMIL Documents Editor. It will be used the use case diagram and collaboration diagram for object-oriented visualizing tool to describe the temporal behavior of the presentation. The main contribution of this paper is that developers of SMIL documents editor easily generate them using this rules and algorithm. And, the formal models and modeling functions provide an environment for processing object-oriented. documents.
As a result of the enormous amount of information that has been collected with E. coli over the past half century (e.g. genome sequence, mutant phenotypes, metabolic and regulatory networks, etc.), we now have detailed knowledge about gene regulation, protein activity, several hundred enzyme reactions, metabolic pathways, macromolecular machines, and regulatory interactions for this model organism. However, understanding how all these processes interact to form a living cell will require further characterization, quantification, data integration, and mathematical modeling, systems biology. No organism can rival E. coli with respect to the amount of available basic information and experimental tractability for the technologies needed for this undertaking. A focused, systematic effort to understand the E. coli cell will accelerate the development of new post-genomic technologies, including both experimental and computational tools. It will also lead to new technologies that will be applicable to other organisms, from microbes to plants, animals, and humans. E. coli is not only the best studied free-living model organism, but is also an extensively used microbe for industrial applications, especially for the production of small molecules of interest. It is an excellent representative of Gram-negative commensal bacteria. E. coli may represent a perfect model organism for systems biology that is aimed at elucidating both its free-living and commensal life-styles, which should open the door to whole-cell modeling and simulation.

Parametric design is an important modeling paradigm in CAD/CAM applications, enabling efficient design modifications and variations. One of the major issues in parametric design is to develop a geometric constraint solver that can handle a large set of geometric configurations efficiently and robustly. In this appear, we propose a new approach to geometric constraint solving that employs a graph-based method to solve the ruler-and-compass constructible configurations and a numerical method to solve the ruler-and-compass non-constructible configurations, in a way that combines the advantages of both methods. The geometric constraint solving process consists of two phases: 1) planning phase and 2) execution phase. In the planning phase, a sequence of construction steps is generated by clustering the constrained geometric entities and reducing the constraint graph in sequence. in the execution phase, each construction step is evaluated to determine the geometric entities, using both approaches. By combining the advantages of the graph-based constructive approach with the universality of the numerical approach, the proposed approach can maximize the efficiency, robustness, and extensibility of geometric constraint solver.

In this paper, Power Management System(PMS) simulator for Liquid Nature Gas Carrier(LNGC) is developed. Major components of power system for LNGC, such as generator, diesel engine and governor, transformer, circuit breaker, and 3 phase loads models are built based on MATLAB/SIMULINK. With these designed major parts, PMS simulator modeling is carried out. Based on MATLAB/Graphical User Interface, PMS simulator control for LNGC, and Human Machine Interface for monitoring is designed. PMS simulator for LNGC carries out simulation according to sequence of characteristics analysis. By comparing results of predicted simulation for each sequence to that of characteristics analysis, the reliability of PMS simulator for LNGC will be verified.

Global interests for construction of 3 dimensional spatial information has risen due to development of measurement sensors and data processing technologies. In spite of criticism for the violation of personal privacy, CCTV cameras equipped in outdoor public space of urban area are used as a fundamental sensor for traffic management, crime prevention or hazard monitoring. For safety guarantee in urban environment and disaster prevention, a surveillance system integrating pre-constructed 3 dimensional spatial information with CCTV data or video sequence is needed for monitoring and observing emergent situation interactively in real time. In this study, we proposed applicability of the prototype system for web visualization based on X3D, an international standard of real time web visualization, by integrating 3 dimensional spatial information with video sequence.

The immune response-related genes have been suggested to be the most favorable genes for positive selection during evolution. Comparing the entire DNA sequence of chimpanzee chromosome 22 (PTR22) with human chromosome 21 (HSA21), we have identified 15 orthologs having indel in their coding sequences. Among them, interferon-${\alpha}$ receptor-1 gene (IFNAR1), an immuneresponse-related gene, is subjected to comparative genomic analysis. Chimpanzee IFNAR1 showed the same genomic structure as human IFNAR1 (11 exons and 10 introns) except the 3 bp insertion in exon 4. The sequence alignment of IFNAR1 coding sequence indicated that 'ISPP' amino acid sequence motif is highly conserved in chimpanzee and other animals including mouse and chicken. However, the human IFNAR1 shows that one proline residue is missing in the sequence motif. The homology modeling of the IFNAR1 structures suggests that the proline deletion in human IFNAR1 leads to the formation of the following ${\alpha}$-helix, whereas two sequential prolines in chimpanzee IFNAR1 inhibit it. As a result, human IFNAR1 may adopt a characteristic structure distinct from chimpanzee IFNAR1. This human specific trait could contribute to specific immune response in the most optimized manner for humans. Further molecular biological studies on the IFNAR1 will help us to gain insights into the molecular implication of species-specific host-pathogen interaction in primate evolution.
This paper presents comparative studies of reliability analysis and meta-modeling using the sampling method of Monte Carlo simulation for the structure design of an automatic ocean salt collector (AOSC). The thickness sizing variables of structure members are considered as random variables. Probabilistic performance functions are selected from strength performances evaluated via the finite element analysis of an AOSC. The sampling methods used in the comparative studies are simple random sampling and Sobol sequences with varied numbers of sampling. Approximation methods such as the Kriging model is applied to the meta-model generation. Reliability performances such as the probability failure and distribution are compared based on the variation of the sampling method of Monte Carlo simulation. The meta-modeling accuracy is evaluated for the Kriging model generated from the Monte Carlo simulation and Sobol sequence results. It is discovered that the Sobol sequence method is applicable to not only to the reliability analysis for the structural design of marine equipment such as the AOSC, but also to Kriging meta-modeling owing to its high numerical efficiency.
