Development of Edge Detecting Sensor Using Ultrasonic Module and Design of Fuzzy PID/PI Edge-Line-Controller (초음파 센서를 이용한 끝선 검출 모듈 개발 및 퍼지 PID/PI 끝선 제어기 설계)

  • In this paper, an edge detecting sensor using ultrasonic detection module is developed which will be used for areas of industrial applications such as plastic film winding system, cloth winding system, paper roll industry, etc. The developed sensor have properties that more exactly detect the edge line, that less affected by environmental noise, and that it produced more stable measurement output. The mass of the winding object is dominantly affect the dynamics of the system and it could produce undesirable result of the system such as stability of the closed-loop system and accuracy of edge-line-following-control(ELFC) objective. Also, there exist sensor noise due to the mechanical vibration or other environmental effect. These noise also degrade the efficiency of control system. In order to compensate these problems, this paper present a fuzzy PI/PID edge-line-controller, and which is designed and implemented.

Digital Imaging Source Identification Using Sensor Pattern Noises (센서 패턴 잡음을 이용한 디지털 영상 획득 장치 판별)

  • With the advance of IT technology, contents from digital multimedia devices and softwares are widely used and distributed. However, novice uses them for illegal purpose and hence there are needs for protecting contents and blocking illegal usage through multimedia forensics. In this paper, we present a forensic technique for identifying digital imaging source using sensor pattern noise. First, the way to acquire the sensor pattern noise which comes from the imperfection of photon detector against light is presented. Then, the way to identify the similarity of digital imaging sources is explained after estimating the sensor pattern noises from the reference images and the unknown image. For the performance analysis of the proposed technique, 10 devices including DSLR camera, compact camera, smartphone and camcorder are tested and quantitatively analyzed. Based on the results, the proposed technique can achieve the 99.6% identification accuracy.

  • SAW device is widely used as band pass filters, chemical or physical sensors, and actuators. In this paper, we propose the capacitive gap measurement system with high precision using SAW device. The research process is mainly composed of theoretical and experimental part. In the theoretical part, equivalent circuit model was used to predict the SAW response by the change of load impedance. In the experimental part, commercialized capacitor was used to see the SAW response by the change of load capacitance to check the feasibility as a sensor unit. After that, experimental setup to measure and adjust the gap was made and the SAW response by the change of gap which caused the capacitance change was measured. Finally, resolution and stroke was decided compared with the signal change and basic measurement noise level.

  • Vibration control of a plate using an optical fiber sensor and a piezoelectric actuator is considered in the present study, An aluminum plate with attached Extrinsic Fabry-Perot Interferometer (EFPI) and piezoelectric actuator is prepared for experimental investigation. Vibration level of EFPI that can represent the mechanical strain without severe distortion Is validated by forced nitration experiment. A linear time invariant system model is constructed based on the experimentally obtained frequency responses, and an optimal controller is designed for the multi-modal vibration suppression. Control performance is presented in frequency and time domains. It is found that the nitration level of the first three modes can be greatly reduced. The effect of low-pass filtering used to eliminate high frequency noise on the stability and control performance is also considered.

  • Recently, indoor localization systems based on wireless sensor networks have received a great deal of attention because they help achieve high accuracy in position determination by using various algorithms. In order to minimize the error in the estimated azimuth that can occur owing to sensor drift and recursive calculation in these algorithms, we propose a novel relative azimuth estimation algorithm. The advantages of the proposed technique in an indoor environment are that an improved weight average filter is used to effectively reduce impulse noise from the raw data acquired from nodes with inherent errors and a rotational displacement algorithm is applied to obtain a precise relative azimuth without using additional sensors, which can be affected by electromagnetic noise. Results from simulations show that the proposed filter reduces the impulse noise, and the acquired estimation error does not accumulate with time by using proposed algorithm.

  • Recently, the advanced condition monitoring methods such as the model-based method and the artificial intelligent method have been applied to maximize the availability as well as to minimize the maintenance cost of the aircraft gas turbines. Among them the non-linear GPA(Gas Path Analysis) method and the GA(Genetic Algorithms) have lots of advantages to diagnose the engines compared to other advanced condition monitoring methods such as the linear GPA, fuzzy logic and neural networks. Therefore this work applies both the non-linear GPA and the GA to diagnose AE3007 turbofan engine for an aircraft, and in case of having sensor noise and bias it is confirmed that the GA is better than the GPA through the comparison of two methods.

  • Stereoscopic image generated by depth image-based rendering(DIBR) for surveillance robot and camera is appropriate in a low bandwidth network. The image is very important data for the decision-making of a commander and thus its integrity has to be guaranteed. One of the methods used to detect manipulation is to check if the stereoscopic image is taken from the original camera. Sensor pattern noise(SPN) used widely for camera identification cannot be directly applied to a stereoscopic image due to the stereo warping in DIBR. To solve this problem, we find out a shifted object in the stereoscopic image and relocate the object to its orignal location in the center image. Then the similarity between SPNs extracted from the stereoscopic image and the original camera is measured only for the object area. Thus we can determine the source of the camera that was used.

  • In this paper, we propose a selective extended Kalman filter based accurate pose estimation of the rigid body using a sensor fusion method. The pose of a rigid body can be estimated roughly by the Gauss-Newton method using the acceleration data and geomagnetic data, which can be refined with vision information and the gyro sensor information. However strong external interference noise makes the rough pose estimation difficult. In this paper, according to the measurement level of the external interference noise, the extended Kalman filter selectively uses mostly vision and gyro sensor information to increase the estimation credibility under strong interference noise environment.

Flicker-free Visible Light Communication Using Three-level RZ Modulation

  • We introduce a new visible light communication (VLC) method in which three-level return-to-zero (RZ) modulation is used for flicker-free transmission. In the VLC transmitter, the three-level RZ modulation ensures that the average optical power is constant; thus, a flicker-free light-emitting diode (LED) light is achieved. In the VLC receiver, a resistor-capacitor high-pass filter is used for generating spike signals, which are used for data recovery while eliminating the 120 Hz optical noise from adjacent lighting lamps. In transmission experiments, we applied this method for wireless transmission of an air quality sensor message using the visible light of an LED array. This configuration is useful for the construction of indoor wireless sensor networks for air pollution monitoring using LED lights.

Proposition of copper-foil magnetic sensor for the two-axis remote measurement of bending vibration of a non-metallic cylinder (비금속 배관에서의 원격 2 축 굽힘 진동 측정을 위한 동박 패치형 자기 센서의 제안)

  • This paper suggests a non-contact sensor for measuring bending vibration of a non-metallic cylinder in two orthogonal directions simultaneously. Recent research shows that a solenoid can pick up bending vibrations of a nonmetallic cylinder based on the reversed Lorentz force mechanism if an electrical conductive patch is attached to the cylinder. In this work, pairs of specially designed patches are used to make two independent paths for the current induced by bending vibrations, which enables the measurement of bending vibrations along two orthogonal directions simultaneously. The working performance of the developed sensor was verified by using two accelerometers.
