  • The neutral valve for controlling the HST is one of the important valves for the vehicle control. Neutral valve takes a role of blocking or transmitting power to the vehicle. The operating principle of the neutral valve was developed through the analysis model. We also investigated the logical validity by analyzing the results of the analysis model. The analysis model was developed by using SimulationX witch is commercial software. The number of holes in the piston was selected as a variable initial compression of the spring, and the magnitude of the pressure pulsations and the diameter of the orifice for the sensitivity analysis were performed to design sensitivity analysis of the neutral valve.

  • This study proposes a sensitivity analysis method for slope stability based on the least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) to examine the influencing factors of slope stability. The method uses LS-SVM as an algorithm for machine learning. An appropriate training dataset is established according to the slope characteristics, and a testing dataset is designed orthogonally. Results of the testing data in the experiment design are calculated after training using the LS-SVM model. The sensitivity of the slope stability of each factor is examined via gray correlation analysis. The results are consistent with those of the traditional Bishop analysis and can be used as a reference for optimizing slope design.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the change of perception and to measure the degree of interaction between the lighting and the finishing materials according to preference types and the impacted factors to the spatial sensitivity of users. To do that, the this change was grasped through the experiment with Likert Scale and ANOVA of SPSS program to the simulated images. The result of this study is as following. Firstly, the personal difference in the perception of space comes from 'attention' in information processing process. The degree of the perception of users change strongly by lighting in the space expressed the 'modern natural'. Secondly, the atmosphere and the degree of perception are different in the preference of users to the spatial sensitivity and in impacted factors which are thought by users in the space sensitives. The users who prefer the 'decoration' feel the mood more strongly in the space. But the users who prefer the 'active' and 'intimacy' are opposite to that. The difference to the degree of perception is greater in the 'classic natural' than the others under the lighting turns on. Thirdly, an in-depth research which is considered of the interaction among the various factors is needed for finding the design methods for inducing the sensitivity of users in the space. And the ranking of the impacted factors should be understanded and applied to the research regarding the changes of perception in the space. Finally, this study has the limitation to be adapted to all of the situation for the space design methods. But this will be a basic data to study the design methods for users's sensitivity in the space.

  • Robust optimization or reliability-based design optimization are some of the methodologies that are employed to take into account the uncertainties of a system at the design stage. For applying such methodologies to solve industrial problems, accurate and efficient methods for estimating statistical moments and failure probability are required, and further, the results of sensitivity analysis, which is needed for searching direction during the optimization process, should also be accurate. The aim of this study is to employ the function approximation moment method into the sensitivity analysis formulation, which is expressed as an integral form, to verify the accuracy of the sensitivity results, and to solve a typical problem of reliability-based design optimization. These results are compared with those of other moment methods, and the feasibility of the function approximation moment method is verified. The sensitivity analysis formula with integral form is the efficient formulation for evaluating sensitivity because any additional function calculation is not needed provided the failure probability or statistical moments are calculated.

  • For the purpose of efficiently calculating the design sensitivity and the reliability for the complicated structures in which the structural responses or limit state functions are given by implicit form, the probabilistic finite element method is introduced to formulate the deterministic design sensitivity analysis method and incorporated with the second moment reliability methods such as MVFOSM, AFOSM and SORM. Also, the probabilistic design sensitivity analysis method needed in the reliability-based design is proposed. As numerical examples, two thin plates are analyzed for the cases of plane stress and plate bending. The initial yielding is defined as failure criterion, and applied loads, yield stress, plate thickness, Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio are treated as random variables. It is found that the response variances and the failure probabilities calculated by the proposed PFEM-based reliability method show good agreement with those by Monte Carlo simulation. The probabilistic design sensitivity evaluates explicitly the contribution of each random variable to probability of failure. Further, the design change can be evaluated without any difficulty, and their effect on reliability can be estimated quickly with high accuracy.

  • This paper describes design improvement to a research rector for safety enhancement using Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA). This PSA under reactor design was undertaken to assess the level of safety for the design of a research reactor and to evaluate whether it is probabilistically safe to operate and reliable to use. The scope of the PSA reported here is a Level 1 PSA, which addresses the risks associated with the core damage. The technical objectives of this study were to identify accident sequences leading to core damage and to derive design improvement from the dominant accident sequences through the sensitivity analysis. The AIMS-PSA and FTREX were used for the this PSA of the research reactor. The criterion for inclusion was all sequences with a point estimate frequency greater than a truncation value of 1.0E-14/yr. The final result indicates a point estimate of 6.79E-05/yr for the overall Core Damage Frequency (CDF) attributable to internal initiating events for the research reactor under design. Based on the dominant accident sequences from the PSA, the seven kinds of sensitivity analysis were performed and some design improvement items were derived. When the five methods to improve the safety were all applied to the reactor design and emergency operating procedure, its risk was reduced to about 1.21E-06/yr from 6.79E-05/yr. The contribution of LOCA and LOEP with high CDF were significantly reduced by the sensitivity analysis. The safety of the research reactor was well improved and the risk was reduced than before adapting the design improvement gotten from the sensitivity analysis. The present study indicated that the research reactor has the well-balanced safety in regard to each initiating event contribution to CDF. The PSA methodology is very effective to improve reactor safety in a conceptual design phase and especially, Risk-informed design(RID) is very nice way to find the deficiencies of research reactor under design and to improve the reactor safety by solving them.

  • Modern furniture design is advancing by putting value on individual sensitivity. Accordingly, this study will focus on optical art, which can give various changes in people's sensitivity. Optical art was actively applied in various fields of image, photograph, fashion, textile, accessory and interior from the 1950s till the 1960s. Optical art realized by Victor Vasarely (1908~) opened a new trend in art by accurately realizing concise and precise expressions. This study analyzed the impact of pattern expression on sensitivity in optical art and suggested a method, which can spatiotemporally maximize the emotional change by combining optical art with the form of furniture. Modern furniture design is changing toward the direction of fitting to the propensity and emotional taste of an individual. Accordingly, this study analyzed the emotional expression felt in the furniture modeling works featured by concise, straight and standardized rectangular shape. Based on the result of analysis, this study would like to suggest a method to utilize optical pattern as a means for emotional design, with which people are able to perform various emotional expressions while keeping the function and form of furniture.

  • Recently the trend of automobile industry is that IQS evaluation index against a sensitivity quality is increasing. To reduce rattle noise due to speaker sound at low frequencies, it is required the advanced technology analysis process of body structure. This paper optimized the design parameters of package tray panel according to the theoretical background about robust design and suggested the design guideline for resonance avoidance and the reduction of vibrational sensitivity considering the excitation frequency of woofer speaker. And this paper described the design process of a door module panel through the sensitivity analysis in case of the door speaker excitation. Finally, the analysis of the quality deviation using mother car is suggested to guarantee the stable characteristics of vehicle vibration in the early stage of vehicle development. These improvements can lead to shortening the time needed to develop better vehicles.

  • The efforts of reflecting the system's uncertainties in design step have been made and robust optimization or reliability-based design optimization are examples of the most famous methodologies. In their formulation, the mean and standard deviation of a performance function and constraints expressed by probability conditions are involved. Therefore, it is essential to effectively and accurately calculate them and, in addition, the sensitivity results are required to obtain when the nonlinear programming is utilized during optimization process. We aim to obtain the new and efficient sensitivity formulation, which is based on integral form, on statistical moments such as the mean and standard deviation, and probability constraints. It does not require the additional functional calculation when statistical moments and failure or satisfaction probabilities are already obtained at a design point. Moreover, some numerical examples have been calculated and compared with the exact solution or the results of Monte Carlo Simulation method. The results seem to be very satisfactory.

  • Using higher order Mindlin plates and piezoelectric materials, eigenvalue problems are considered. Since piezoelectric crystal resonators produce a proper amount of electric signal for a thickness-shear frequency, the objective is to decouple the thickness-shear mode from the others. Design variables are the bulk material densities corresponding to the mass of masking plates for electrodes. The design sensitivity expressions for the thickness-shear frequency and mode shape vector are derived using direct differentiation method(DDM). Using the developed design sensitivity analysis (DSA) method, we formulate a topology optimization problem whose objective function is to maximize the thickness-shear component of strain energy density at the thickness-shear mode. Constraints are the allowable volume and area of masking plate. Numerical examples show that the optimal design yields an improved mode shape and thickness-shear energy.
