The landing gear of an aircraft is a device that absorbs and dissipates shock energy transmitted from the ground to the fuselage. Among the landing gears, the semi-active MR damper landing gear is supposed to show high-shock absorption efficiency under various landing conditions and secure the stability when out of control. In the case of the MR damper landing gear using an annular channel rather than orifice, Amesim, a commercial multi-physics program, is considered as more useful than the conventional two-degree-of-freedom model because the damping force generated by the pressure drop through the flow annular path can cause cavitation in the low-pressure chamber of the MR damper with a specific internal structure. In this paper, the main dynamic characteristics of the MR damper landing gear with an annular type flow path structure has been analyzed under the condition of cavitation. Based on the analysis results using Amesim, a design guideline for the MR damper flow path that prevents cavitation has been proposed based on the modification of the arrangement of internal components of the damper. The guideline was verified through a drop simulation.

In military vehicles moving over poor roads, severe vibration of the chassis can damage internal components. Currently, many studies have focused on active and semi-active suspensions to reduce the vibration of the chassis. In this study, a vibration reduction technique is suggested by applying a unique rotating suspension structure. SH-ADD, a type of modified Skyhook, was selected as a controller for vibration reduction. A random ISO class E road was selected as the driving road. The simulation was performed using ADAMS Control and Matlab Simulink. The control result was compared with the RMS acceleration with a focus on the cumulative fatigue of the internal equipment.
In the last decades, valuable results have been reported regarding conventional passive, active, semi-active, and hybrid structural control systems on two-dimensional and a few three-dimensional shear buildings. In this research, using a three-dimensional finite element model of high-rise concrete structures, designed by performance based plastic design method, it was attempted to construct a relatively close to reality model of concrete structures equipped with Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) by considering the effect of soil-structure interaction (SSI), torsion effect, hysteresis behavior and cracking effect of concrete. In contrast to previous studies which have focused mainly on linearly designed structures, in this study, using performance-based plastic design (PBPD) design approach, nonlinear behavior of the structures was considered from the beginning of the design stage. Inelastic time history analysis on a detailed model of twenty-story concrete structure was performed under a far-field ground motion record set. The seismic responses of the structure by considering SSI effect are studied by eight main objective functions that are related to the performance of the structure, containing: lateral displacement, acceleration, inter-story drift, plastic energy dissipation, shear force, number of plastic hinges, local plastic energy and rotation of plastic hinges. The tuning problem of TMD based on tuned mass spectra is set by considering five of the eight previously described functions. Results reveal that the structural damage distribution range is retracted and inter-story drift distribution in height of the structure is more uniform. It is strongly suggested to consider the effect of SSI in structural design and analysis.
In this study, a hybrid control method that adjusts for the existing force control technique has been presented for consideration. The proposed hybrid control technique does away with the chattering phenomenon occurring in existing force control technique and provides high shock absorption efficiency. In order to design the controller for the landing gear with MR damper, the equation of motion of the landing gear was derived. The hybrid controller was designed after constructing a simulation model using Recur-Dyne, multi-body dynamic analysis software. The hybrid controller can reduce the maximum strut force and displacement based on the skyhook controller, and is able to get the high efficiency by making it work for the additional force control technique. In addition, an effective switching control technique and input shaping technique was applied to prevent the chattering in the drop simulation. Finally, the performance of the landing characteristics was evaluated throughout the various drop simulations.
High-rise buildings are increasingly viewed as having both technical and economic advantages, especially in areas of high population density. Increasingly taller buildings are being built worldwide. Increased heights entail increasing flexibility, which can result in serviceability problems associated with significant displacements and accelerations at higher floors. The purpose of this paper is to present the concept of a versatile vibration control technology (MR dampers with bracings) that can be used in super tall buildings. The proposed technology is shown to be effective, from a serviceability point of view, as well as resulting in dramatically reduced design wind loads, thus creating more resilient and sustainable buildings.
Automotive suspension system is a mechanism for isolation of the vibration coming from the road inputs. Recently, the electronically controlled suspension systems which may improve ride and handling performance have been developed. Here, the continuously controlled semi-active suspension system is focused. As a mechanism to control damping forces continuously, a solenoid valve is used. The modeling for the solenoid valve is introduced briefly, a vehicle dynamics modeling is constructed, and then combined system model is completed. To design the efficient control algorithm for the semiactive suspension system the knowledge based fuzzy logic is applied and the technique how to apply the sky-hook theory to the fuzzy logic is developed. Finally, to confirm the improvement of performance the computer simulation is carried out.

This paper presents a robust and superior control performance of a quarter-vehicle electrorheological (ER) suspension system. In order to achieve this goal, a moving sliding mode control algorithm is adopted, and its moving strategy is tuned by fuzzy logic. As a first step, ER damper is designed and manufactured for a passenger vehicle suspension system, and its field-dependent damping force is experimentally evaluated. After formulating the governing equation of motion for the quarter-vehicle ER suspension system, a stable sliding surface and moving algorithm based on fuzzy logic are formulated. The fuzzy moving sliding mode controller is then constructed and experimentally implemented. Control performances of the ER suspension system are evaluated in both time and frequency domains.

One of the most promising semi-active devices proposed for structural control is magnetorheological fluid (MR) dampers. While many researches are making too much of application to structural control, few of papers are considering how to design the MR dampers having good performance. In this paper, the sub-optimal design procedure for MR dampers is presented. This paper shows that an MR damper having the capacity of about 5,000 N is designed according to proposed procedure, as an exmple.
