  • In this paper we describe a new method for multimodal function optimization using genetic algorithms(GAs). We propose adaptation rules for GA parameters such as population size, crossover probability and mutation probability. In the self organizing genetic algorithm(SOGA), SOGA parameters change according to the adaptation rules. Thus, we do not have to set the parameters manually. We discuss about SOGA and those of other approaches for adapting operator probabilities in GAs. The validity of the proposed algorithm will be verified in a simulation example of system identification.

  • Using 1991 FDIC financial statement data, we develop fuzzy clusters of the data set. We also identify the distinctive characteristics of the fuzzy clustering algorithm and compare the closest hard-partitioning result of the fuzzy clustering algorithm with the outcomes of two self-organizing neural networks. When nine clusters are used, our analysis shows that the fuzzy clustering method distinctly groups failed and extreme performance banks from control (healthy) banks. The experimental results also show that the fuzzy clustering method and the self-organizing neural networks are promising tools in identifying potentially failing banks.

  • Detecting straight lines in an image is frequently required for various machine vision applications such as restoring CAD drawings from scanned images and object recognition. The standard Hough transform has been dominantly used to that purpose. However, massive storage requirement and low precision in estimating line parameters due to the quantization of parameter space are the major drawbacks of the Hough transform technique. In this paper, to overcome the drawbacks, an iterative algorithm based on a self-organizing map is presented. The self-organizing map can be adaptively learned such that image points are clustered by prominent lines. Through the procedure of the algorithm, a set of lines are sequentially detected one at a time. The algorithm can produce highly precised estimates of line parameters using very small amount of storage memory. Computational results for synthetically generated images are given. The promise of the algorithm is also demonstrated with its application to two natural images of inserts.

  • Self Organizing Maps(SOM) by Kohonen is very fast algorithm in neural networks. But it doesn't show sure rules of training results. In this paper, we introduce to Bayesian Learning for Self Organizing Maps(BLSOM) which combines self organizing maps with Bayesian learning. So it supports explanatory power of models and improves prediction. BLSOM has global optima anywhere but SOM has not. This is proved by experiment in this paper.

  • A self-organizing fuzzy logic controller using a genetic algorithm is described, which controlled the glucose concentration for the enhancement of flavonoid production in a fed-batch cultivation of Scutellaria baicalensis G. plant cells. The substrate feeding strategy in a fed-batch culture was to increase the flavonoid production by using the proposed kinetic model. For the two-stage culture, the substrate feeding strategy consisted of a first period with 28 g/I of glucose to promote cell growth, followed by a second period with 5 g/I of glucose to promote flavonoid production. A simple fuzzy logic controller and the self-organizing fuzzy logic controller using a genetic algorithm was constructed to control the glucose concentration in a fed-batch culture. The designed fuzzy logic controllers were applied to maintain the glucose concentration at given set-points of the two-stage culture in fed-batch cultivation. The experimental results showed that the self-organizing fuzzy logic controller improved the controller\`s performance, compared with that of the simple fuzzy logic controller. The specific production yield and productivity of flavonoids in the two-stage culture were higher than those in the batch culture.

  • This paper provides a framework for semantic correspondence of heterogeneous databases using self- organizing map. It solves the problem of overlapping between different databases due to their different schemas. Clustering technique using self-organizing maps (SOM) is tested and evaluated to assess its performance when using different kinds of data. Preprocessing of database is performed prior to clustering using edit distance algorithm, principal component analysis (PCA), and normalization function to identify the features necessary for clustering.

  • The Self Creating and organizing (SCO) is a new architecture and one of the unsupervized learning algorithm for the artificial neural network. SCO begins with only one output node which has a sufficiently wide response range, and the response ranges of all the nodes decrease with time. Self Creating and Organizing Neural Network (SCONN) decides automatically whether adapting the weights of existing node or creating a new node. It is compared to the Kohonen's Self Organizing Feature Map (SOFM). The results show that SCONN has lots of advantages over other competitive learning architecture.

  • This paper proposes a self-organizing fuzzy modeling(SOFUM)which an create a new hyperplane shaped cluster and adjust parameters of the fuzzy model in repetition. The suggested algorithm SOFUM is composed of four steps: coarse tuning. fine tuning cluster creation and optimization of learning rates. In the coarse tuning fuzzy C-regression model(FCRM) clustering and weighted recursive least squared (WRLS) algorithm are used and in the fine tuning gradient descent algorithm is used to adjust parameters of the fuzzy model precisely. In the cluster creation, a new hyperplane shaped cluster is created by applying multiple regression to input/output data with relatively large fuzzy entropy based on parameter tunings of fuzzy model. And learning rates are optimized by utilizing meiosis-genetic algorithm in the optimization of learning rates To check the effectiveness of the suggested algorithm two examples are examined and the performance of the identified fuzzy model is demonstrated via computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose a Self Organizing Feature Map (SOFM) Type Neural Computation Algorithm for the Travelling Salesman Problem(TSP). The actual best solution to the TSP problem is computatinally very hard. The reason is that it has many local minim points. Until now, in neural computation field, Hopield-Tank type algorithm is widely used for the TSP. SOFM and Elastic Net algorithm are other attempts for the TSP. In order to apply SOFM type neural computation algorithms to the TSP, the object function forms a euclidean norm between two vectors. We propose a Largrangian for the above request, and induce a learning equation. Experimental results represent that feasible solutions would be taken with the proposed algorithm.

  • In this study, researchers developed the estimative algorithm for artificial defect in semiconductor packages and performed it by pattern recognition technology. For this purpose, the estimative algorithm was included that researchers made software with MATLAB. The software consists of some procedures including ultrasonic image acquisition, equalization filtering, Self-Organizing Map and Backpropagation Neural Network. Self-organizing Map and Backpropagation Neural Network are belong to methods of Neural Networks. And the pattern recognition technology has applied to classify three kinds of detective patterns in semiconductor packages : Crack, Delamination and Normal. According to the results, we were confirmed that estimative algerian was provided the recognition rates of 75.7% (for Crack) and 83.4% (for Delamination) and 87.2 % (for Normal).
