Though it has been known that self-efficacy is a predictor to the successful L2 learning, the majority of studies on self-efficacy cases were targeted at secondary school students. This paper aims to explore the effects of the intermediate college students' essay writing experiences on their English self-efficiency. For this purpose, pre and post course surveys were conducted on a hundred or so freshmen who took intermediate college English classes which focused on improving English reading and writing skills. Interviews with teachers were also conducted in order to find out whether the differences of their teaching styles had any meaningful impact on their students' self-efficacy. Paired t-test was run on the responses of the post-questionnaire to identify any differences in the self-efficacies of the students before and after taking the classes, and the one-way ANOVA was conducted to find out whether the different instruction types had any significant impact on the differences. The results of the both analyses confirmed the differences of self-efficacies by the two predictors at a statistically significant level. Based on the findings of this paper, various types of writing assignments and efficient procedures of teachers' feedback need to be developed further in order to design and run an effective college English course which can contribute to enhancing self-efficacy of students.
This study examined the effect of Health Education on the aged. One of the Study objectives was to improve knowledge. attitude and self-care practice about diabetes of the aged who have responded positive in the urine sugar test. The other study objective was to find out factors influencing knowledge. attitude and self-care practice about diabetes. and the relationship among the three variables. The subjects, consisting of 45 positive responders in the urine sugar test, were selected from the elderly who attend elderly citizen center in southern part of Seoul Then they were divided into an experimental and a control group. The study design was set to compare the pre and post test data between the experimental and the control group with the measures of results from Health Education services including nursing care intervention programs on the aged diabetics. The first data collection was carried out in August. 1986 through questionaires and urine sugar testing. The second data collection was done in September, 1987 through the same methods. The results of the study are summarized as follows; 1. General characteristics of the subjects The experimental group has 9 females and 14 males and the control group has 12 females and 10 males. As for the educational level, more than half of the subjects in both group had completed at least 6 years of education. And there was no significant difference in urine sugar levels between the two groups. 2. The effect of Health Education on the extent of change in knowledge, attitude and self-care practice about diabetes was found to be significant. The first hypothesis that knowledge, attitude and self-care practice about diabetes in the aged will be unchanged by Health Education. was rejected by increased the three variables and decreased urine suger level in the experimental group. The second hypothesis that knowledge, attitude and self-care practice about diabetes wouldn't be concerned with each other, was rejected. That is. the three variables and urine sugar levels showed a significant positive relationship with each other but diabetic knowledge to urine sugar level had an insignificant positive relationship. The third hypothesis that the amount of learning Health Education will have no relationships with knowledge. attitude and self-care practice about diabetes. was rejected. That is, the more number of times an elderly person participated in Health Education. they increased their diabetic knowledge. attitude and self-care practice and decreased their urine sugar level. 3. Except for Health Education, an other factor influencing diabetic knowledge was educational level. And an other factor influencing the diabetic attitude was experience of the diagnosis of diabetes. 4. Except for Health Education. the other factors influencing self-care practice were experience of the diagnasis of diabetes, sex and experience of the hospitalization for diabetes. But factors influencing urine sugar level weren't found. Although the results seem to be plausible, this study is not without its problems. In paticular, the sample used is limited in its scope and size. So, more empirical work needs to be done for other diseases as well as diabetes before any general conclusions are to be made.

A new era has come where high quality educational materials can be acquired easily through the World Wide Web. These materials, however, need to be refined and streamlined to maximize their effect on education. In order to provide such a streamlined flow, we need to be able to re-organize documents, which exist independent of each other on the Web, in a way that maintains their appropriate order in the right context to satisfy educational purposes. In addition, we should be able to provide supplementary explanations or missing information to the organized materials for smooth connections among them. In order to meet the requirements, we employed the virtual document concept that allows us to reuse existing documents for educational purposes. By providing a retrieval engine for virtual documents, we attempt to induce self-directed learning based on document retrieval, suitable for the level and purpose of students.
Traffic anomaly detection is one of important technology that should be considered in network security and administration. In this paper, we propose an abnormal traffic detection mechanism that includes traffic monitoring and traffic analysis. We develop analytical passive monitoring system called WISE-Mon which can inspect traffic behavior. We establish a criterion by analyzing the characteristics of a traffic training set. To detect abnormal traffic, we derive a hyperplane by using Fisher linear discriminant and chi-square distribution as well as the analyzed characteristics of traffic. Our mechanism can support reliable results for traffic anomaly detection and is compatible to real-time detection. In addition, since the trend of traffic can be changed as time passes, the hyperplane has to be updated periodically to reflect the changes. Accordingly, we consider the self-learning algorithm which reflects the trend of the traffic and so enables to increase the pliability of detection probability. Numerical results are presented to validate the accuracy of proposed mechanism. It shows that the proposed mechanism is reliable and relevant for traffic anomaly detection.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a simulation module for teaching home health care and evaluate the applicability of the program to nursing students' practical training. Methods: The simulation module was developed based on the National League for Nursing Jeffries Simulation Theory. The theme of the developed scenario was teaching nasogastric tube feeding to the caregiver of patient with Parkinson disease. Participants were 61 nursing students who had learned tube feeding, and participated in the questionnaire survey after the simulation training. Results: The evaluation of simulation design showed the highest score on feedback/guided reflection, and was highly evaluated in the order of objectives/information, problem solving and fidelity. The educational practice of the simulation was highly evaluated in the order of active learning, high expectation and diversity of learning. The nursing students showed high satisfaction and self-confidence after the simulation education. Conclusion: We suggest that the developed simulation module can be applied to practical training for home health care. In the future, the change of self-efficacy, clinical judgment and performance ability of the students after the simulation education should be identified. Also, various simulation modules related to the community health nursing competencies should be continuously developed and verified.

While youth health is getting worse and worse, various physical improvements programs are being operated in schools. However, self-learning fitness management without the guidance of a teacher has various limitations. Fitness management applications may be helpful to overcoming the limitations. But as they are mostly developed for adults, young people will have limitations in using them. Therefore, this study is intended to develop a physical activity promotion system (application) which will enable young people to do self-learning fitness management. The features of the application are that it is classified as home training and school training, providing various physical activity programs, and added with interesting elements for continuous use. The results of application have revealed that student test groups experienced improvement in fitness health and showed positive reponses to satisfaction of the application, exercise hours, and continuous use.

Human Pose Estimation (HPE) which localizes the human body joints becomes a high potential for high-level applications in the field of computer vision. The main challenges of HPE in real-time are occlusion, illumination change and diversity of pose appearance. The single RGB image is fed into HPE framework in order to reduce the computation cost by using depth-independent device such as a common camera, webcam, or phone cam. However, HPE based on the single RGB is not able to solve the above challenges due to inherent characteristics of color or texture. On the other hand, depth information which is fed into HPE framework and detects the human body parts in 3D coordinates can be usefully used to solve the above challenges. However, the depth information-based HPE requires the depth-dependent device which has space constraint and is cost consuming. Especially, the result of depth information-based HPE is less reliable due to the requirement of pose initialization and less stabilization of frame tracking. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method of HPE which is robust in estimating self-occlusion. There are many human parts which can be occluded by other body parts. However, this paper focuses only on head self-occlusion. The new method is a combination of the RGB image-based HPE framework and the depth information-based HPE framework. We evaluated the performance of the proposed method by COCO Object Keypoint Similarity library. By taking an advantage of RGB image-based HPE method and depth information-based HPE method, our HPE method based on RGB-D achieved the mAP of 0.903 and mAR of 0.938. It proved that our method outperforms the RGB-based HPE and the depth-based HPE.
The purpose of this study is to analyze influencing factors for the user satisfaction of information commons(IC) in school libraries. Relevant previous studies inform four candidate factors that could affect the user satisfaction. Based upon these factors and user interviews, a questionnaire are constructed to form 29 items in total. As the main data, 412 samples are collected from the IC users from 3 high schools in Seoul. Analyses lead to these findings: factors affecting the user satisfaction are identified. They are IC facilities, human services, and achievement level of self-directed learning. It seems that, in ICs, users prefer using space and facilities by themselves to accessing contents. This study suggests ways to improve user satisfaction. It would be essential to introduce IC facilities to current and potential users, to install instruments to enhance achievement level of self-directed learning, and to train users through library education programs.
This paper presents fuzzy rules to predict diagnosis of Wisconsin breast cancer using neural network with weighted fuzzy membership functions (NNWFM). NNWFM is capable of self-adapting weighted membership functions to enhance accuracy in prediction from the given clinical training data. n set of small, medium, and large weighted triangular membership functions in a hyperbox are used for representing n set of featured input. The membership functions are randomly distributed and weighted initially, and then their positions and weights are adjusted during learning. After learning, prediction rules are extracted directly from the enhanced bounded sums of n set of weighted fuzzy membership functions. Two number of prediction rules extracted from NNWFM outperforms to the current published results in number of rules and accuracy with 99.41%.
