Self compacting concrete (SCC) has good flowability, passability and segregation resistance because of voluminous cementitious material & high coarse aggregate to fine aggregate ratio, and high free water availability. But these factors make it highly susceptible to shrinkage. Fibers are known to reduce shrinkage in concrete mixes. Until now for conserving cement, only pozzolanic materials are admixed in concrete to yield a SCC. Hence, this study compares the use of wollastonite micro fiber (WMF), a cheap pozzolanic easily processed raw mineral fiber, and flyash in yielding economical SCC for rigid pavement. Microsilica was used as a complimentary material with both admixtures. Since WMF has large surface area ($827m^2/kg$), is acicular in nature; therefore its use in yielding SCC was dubious. Binary and ternary mixes were constituted for WMF and flyash, respectively. Paste mixes were tested for compatibility with superplasticizer and trials were performed on a normal concrete mix of flexural strength 4.5 MPa to yield SCC. Flexural strength test and restrained shrinkage test were performed on those mixes, which qualified self compacting criteria. Results revealed that WMF admixed pastes have high water demand, and comparable setting times to flyash mixes. Workability tests showed that 20% WMF with microsilica (5-7.5%) is efficient enough in achieving SCC and higher flexural strength than normal concrete at 90 days. Also, stress rate due to shrinkage was lesser and time duration for final strain was higher in WMF admixed SCC which encourages its use in yielding a SCC than pozzolanic materials.
This paper investigates the effect of recycled glass powder (RGP) on flowing properties of self-compacting mortars (SCMs) containing different ratios of fillers and superplasticizer dosages. Fly ash (FA), nano-silica (NS), micro-silica (MS), metakaolin (MK) and rice husk ash (RHA) are used as fillers and their synergistic effect with RFP is studied. The effects of fillers and high-range water reducer (HRWR) on flowing ability of mortars are primarily determined by slump flow and V-funnel flow time tests. The results showed that for composites with a higher RGP content, the mortar flowing ability increased but tended to decrease when the composites containing 10% MK or 5% RHA. However, the flowing ability of samples incorporating 5% RGP and 10% SF or 25% FA showed an opposite result that their slump flow spread decreased and then increased with increasing RGP content. For specimens with 3% NS, the influence of RGP content on flowing properties was not significant. Except RHA and MS, the fillers studied in this paper could reduce the dosage of HRWR required for achieving the same followability. Also, the mixture parameters were determined and indicated that the flowability of mixtures was also affected by the content of sand and specific surface area of cement materials. It is believed that excess fine particles provided ball-bearing effect, which could facilitate the movement of coarse particles and alleviate the interlocking action among particles. Also, it can be concluded that using fillers in conjunction with RGP as cementitious materials can reduce the material costs of SCM significantly.

This study presents an experimental investigation into the performance of self-sensing grout formulated with a high volume of ultra-fine fly ash(UHFA). To explore the potential benefits of alternative cementitious materials, the research examined the effect of substituting UHFA with equal parts of blast furnace slag(BFS) fine powder. Both UHFA and BFS are byproducts generated in significant quantities by industrial processes. The evaluation focused on the fresh properties of the grout, including its flow characteristics, as well as the hardened properties such as compressive strength, dimensional stability(length change rate), and electrical properties. The experimental results demonstrated that incorporating UHFA resulted in a substantial reduction in the plastic viscosity of the grout, translating to improved flowability. Additionally, the compressive strength of the UHFA-modified grout surpassed that of the reference grout(without UHFA substitution) at all curing ages investigated. Interestingly, the electrical characteristics, as indicated by the relationships between FCR-stress and FCR-strain, exhibited similar trends for both grout mixtures.
The purpose of this study was to examine the durability characteristics of controlled low strength material(flowable fill) with high volume fly ash content. Flowable fill refer to self-compacted, cementitious material used primarily as a backfill in lieu of compacted fill. The two primary advantages of flowable fill over traditional methods are its ease of placement and the elimination of settlement. Therefore, in difficult compaction areas or areas where settlement is a concern, flowable fill should be considered. The fly ash used in this study met the requirements of KS L 5405 and ASTM C 618 for Class F material. The mix proportions used for flowable fill are selected to obtain low-strength materials in the 10 to 15kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ range. The optimized flowable fill was consisted of 60kg f/$\textrm{m}^3$ cement content, 280kgf/$\textrm{m}^3$ fly ash content, 1400kgf/$\textrm{m}^3$ sand content, and 320kgf/$\textrm{m}^3$ water content. Subsequently, durability tests including permeability, warm water immersion, repeated wetting & drying, freezing & thawing for high volume fly ash-flowable fill are conducted. The results indicated that flowable fill has acceptable durability characteristics.
This study is to performed to find the optimum mix proportion of the high strength and self compacting concrete for the above-ground LNG storage tank construction and field application. If LNG storage tank wall thicknesscan be reduced, the construction cost and quality can be improved by using self-compacting high strength concrete with compressive strength 60~80 MPa. For this purpose, low heat cement (Type IV) and class F fly ash are used in concrete mix to control hydration heat, flowability, and viscosity. Mix design variables of unit water, fly ash replacement ratio, water-binder ratio, and fine aggregate ratio are selected and tested for material properties and manufacturing cost of the concrete. Also, fly ash replacement ratio is considered using confined water ratio test. The test results showed that the optimum mix proportion of the self-compacting high strength concrete characteristics are as follows. 1) In case of the concrete with specified compressive strength of 60 MPa, the optimum mix proportion is fly ash replacement ratio of 20% and water- binder ratio of 27~30%. 2) In case of the concrete with the strength of 80 MPa, the optimum mix proportion is fly ash replacement ratio of 10% and water-binder ratio 25%. But unit water and fine aggregate ratio are 165 $kg/m^3$ and $51{\pm}2%$, respectively, regardless of the traget concrete compressive strength range. Also, test results showed that concrete manufacturing cost of 60 MPa and 80 MPa concrete require additional costs of 14~22% and 33%, respectively, compared to the manufacturing cost of 40 MPa concrete. Therefore, application of the self-compacting high strength concrete has proven to be economical in the perspective of the material cost, quality control, and site management.

The research performed a test concerning the fluidity and strength of concrete manufactured by combining lime stone power, fly ash, and blast furnace slag into two and three component systems, aiming at evaluating rheological and dynamic properties of concrete by manufacturing High Flowing Self-Compacting according to the strength changes of three levels. As a result of the research, for High Flowing Self-Compacting of 30 MPa, the combination of lime stone power 20% and fly ash 30% for securing quality and strength and adjusting viscosity satisfied the required performance. For High Flowing Self-Compacting of 50 MPa, the combination of blast furnace slag 10% and fly ash 20% satisfied the fluidity and strength of the requirement performance. Also, for 70 MPa that has many power contents, the combination of blast furnace slag 20% and fly ash 10% for the increase of fluidity and the reduction of viscosity satisfied the required performance. It is judged that fly ash in all combinations can be used to secure viscosity and reduce concrete amount. In addition, it is judged that for High Flowing Self-Compacting according to the levels of compressive strength the combination of three component system including fly ash is more appropriate than the combination of two component system.
High performance concrete is prone to large autogenous shrinkage due to its low water to binder ratio (W/B). The autogenous shrinkage of concrete is caused by self-desiccation as a result of water consumption by the hydration of cement. In this study, the autogenous shrinkage of high performance concrete with and without fly ash was Investigated. The properties of fresh concrete, slump loss, air content, and flowability as well as the mechanical properties, compressive strength and modulus of elasticity, were also measured. Test results was shown that the autogenous shrinkage of concrete increased as the W/B decreased. For the same W/B, the autogenous shrinkage of high strength concrete with fly ash was considerably reduced although the development of its compressive strength was delayed at early ages. Furthermore, the autogenous shrinkage and compressive strength of high strength concrete were more rapidly developed than those of normal strength concrete. It was concluded that fly ash could improve the quality of high strength concrete with respect to the workability and autogenous shrinkage.

In this research experimentally analyzes the flow characteristics of a combined High flowing Self-Compacting Concrete of which the viscosity agent and defoaming agent addition amount are changed, to make the combined High flowing Self-Compacting Concrete that can secure the required flow performance and air amount. As a result of the experiment, the slump flow of the combined High flowing Self-Compacting Concrete added with viscosity agent increases when the viscosity agent addition amount is 0.2%(${\times}$W %). When viscosity agent addition amount increases, viscosity agent shows that it largely deviates from the regulation value in the flow time of V-funnel, which is presented in the JSCE standards (grade 2). Also, all mixtures, except for mixtures added with viscosity agent, defoaming agent, and AE agent, do not meet a target air amount $4.5{\pm}1.5%$. High flowing Self-Compacting Concrete mixtureadded with defoaming agent shows that although time passes after its first mixture, its air amount reduces a little. Based on the experiment, we can know an optimal polymer amount to obtain the required flow performance

As structures become larger, taller, and more diverse, a high degree of technology and expertise are required in the construction industry. However, it has been becoming difficult to construct under severe conditions and to fulfill the high performance needs of structures due to a lack of skilled construction engineers. To compensate for these weak points, high-performance concrete and performance specifications have been developed. The application of reliable high-fluidity concrete, which is one of these efforts, is expected to be effective in terms of overcoming severe conditions, reducing the number of workers required, and shortening the construction period. In order to apply high fluidity concrete in the field, practical mock-up tests were carried out to estimate whether self-compaction concrete could satisfy constructability needs. From the results, it was verified that the multi-component high fluidity concrete has excellent flowability in practical structures. In addition, it was shown that the temperature distribution in the concrete due to hydration heat is satisfactory. As a result, it is judged that multi-component high fluidity concrete can be utilized as an effective building material for various structures, including structures related to the electric power industry.
In recent years the field application of high performance concrete has been increased to improve the quality and reliability of concrete structures. The mix design of the high performance concrete includes the 2 set-off mixture theory of mortar and coarse aggregate and that of paste and aggregate. The 2 set-off mixture theory of mortar and coarse aggregate has a problem of having to determine its value through repeated experiments in applying the rheological characteristics of mortar. The 2 set-off mixture theory of paste and aggregate has never been applied to high performance concrete since it doesn't take into account the relationship between optimum fine aggregate ratio and unit volume of powder nor does it consider the critical aggregate volume ratio. As the mixture theory of these high performance concretes, unlike that of general concrete, focuses on flowability and charge-ability, it does not consider intensity features in mix design also, the unit quantity of the materials used is determined by trial and error method in the same way as general concrete. This study is designed to reduce the frequency of trial and error by accurately calculating the optimum fine aggregate ratio, which makes it possible to minimize the aperture of aggregate in use by introducing the maximum density theory to the mix design of high performance concrete. Also, it is intended to propose a simple and reasonable mix design for high performance concrete meeting the requirements for both intensity and flowability. The mix design proposed in this study may reduce trial and error and conveniently produce high performance concrete which has self-chargeability by using more than the minimum unit volume of powder and optimum fine aggregate with minimum porosity.
