  • While Self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) has been recommended in some diabetes mellitus (DM) patients population according to the 2010 American Diabetes Association (ADA), 2007 Korean Diabetes Association (KDA), 2005 International Diabetes Federation guideline, it is excluded from a routine insurance coverage for outpatients in Korea. The objective of this study is to meta-analyze the impact of SMBG on HbA1c in non insulin-treated diabetes mellitus (NIT) DM patients. Published clinical literatures were identified through electronic database searches from inception and until May 2010. Studies were selected if they met the following inclusion criteria: 1) randomized controlled trials (RCTs), 2) comparing SMBG with non-SMBG in NIT type 2 diabetes, 3) measuring HbA1c as an outcome. Literature qualities were assessed by the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network Checklist. The mean difference of HbA1c between the 2 groups was pooled from non-heterogeneous 6 RCTs by meta-analysis using Review Manger (RevMan) Version 5.0 program. Pooled results demonstrated that SMBG is associated with a statistically significant improvement in glycemic control (mean HbA1c difference -0.23, 95%CI -0.32, -0.13). Sensitivity analysis showed that glycemic controls were significantly improved in patients with shorter study duration, more frequent self-monitoring, higher baseline HbA1c value, and without prior SMBG experiences. Conclusively SMBG is effective in improving glycemic control in NIT DM patients, but additional evidences from further researches in Korean patients and cost-effectiveness analysis would be necessary to make a suggestion for coverage expansion.

  • This paper aims to identify the characteristics of literary therapy in relation to literature education. It also intends to clarify its distinctiveness. Literary therapy is not to teach literature. It does not deliver knowledge on agreed analyses, backgrounds and the nature of genres. Literary therapy encourages participants to fully appreciate one's thought and emotions and express them. The end goal is self-knowledge rather than the understanding of texts. Literary therapy focuses on self-knowledge through literatures as opposed to literature education which aims to encourage understandings of literature texts. In literary therapy, literature is media for personal growth facilitating self-expansion. Literature works enable participants to view oneself objectively by the means of one's responses to literature works. Literary therapy has more permissive viewpoints on recipients' response to literature texts than literature education. In addition, the subject of literary therapy is more unique and individualistic.

  • The aim of this article is to analyze problems of the government-led region-based business-university-research institute collaborations(BURIC) in Korea and to present main issues for solving and improving the current 'cul-de-sac' of these collaborations. The main problem of such collaborations is the wider divergence of opinions by actors who implement projects of the BURIC funded by the central and local government. Due to this problem, each region, mainly the non-Seoul metropolitan region, in Korea has problems of the system and people for BURIC. Within this context, main issues of the government-led and region-based BURIC is focused upon BURIC for the start-up of self-employment and the expansion of companies' lifespan. Since 2000, experts and policy-makers have emphasized business- (or company-) centered BURIC rather than University-focused one. This point of view should be improved or corrected. That is to say, policies of BURIC are in need of focusing upon the start-up for self-employment and the expansion of companies' lifespan.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the expansion and withering of Salix subfragilis communities on the water quality in Namgang Dam reservoir. The distribution area of the Salix subfragilis communities was 0.12 km2 in 2003 for the first time, but it was 3.58 km2 in 2019, which has increased rapidly by about 30 times in 16 years. However, in 2013, the distribution area has decreased by 0.17 km2 due to long-term immersion in high turbidity, and self-thinning in Salix subfragilis communities. The lake characteristics of reservoir showed a combination of lake type and river type in terms of average water depth, watershed area/lake surface area ratio, water residence time, flushing rate, and stratification. From the result of analyzing long-term changes in lake water quality, COD, TP, and chlorophyll-a in Salix subfragilis communities were significantly larger than those in the three points located in the central part of reservoir. In particular, the fact that the value of chlorophyll-a showed the maximum value in winter rather than summer, unlike the trend of the three points in the Namgang Dam water quality monitoring network, is thought to have occurred internally rather than externally. It can be estimated that one cause of this deterioration of the water quality in Namgang Dam reservoir is the huge amount of nutrients generated in the decomposition process of by-products such as fallen leaves, branches and withered trees in Salix subfragilis communities.

  • This study intended to examine the effects of each factor on teacher efficacy. A questionnaire survey was administered on 225 home economics teachers in middle school in Gyeonggi-do, and a total of 194 copies of the questionnaire excluding poorly filled-out 31 copies were used for the final analysis. A questionnaire in a self-administering design was used to collect data on individual characteristics, teacher efficacy, self-esteem, development of expertise, and educational environment of school perceived by the middle school home economics teachers. The findings of this study are summarized as follows; First, there were significant differences in teacher efficacy according to age, education and service years. Second, significant differences were found in teacher efficacy according to self-esteem, development of expertise and educational environment of school. That is, the more positive self-esteem, development of expertise, participation of parents, characteristics of students and other teachers, and teachers' perception about teaching-learning aids were, the higher home economics teachers' efficacy became. Third, the study revealed that teacher efficacy was influenced by development of expertise, educational environment of school and self-esteem. Considering these results, positive self-esteem of teachers, practical teacher training, expansion of self-development training opportunity, aids from educational authorities in terms of money and time are needed to improve teacher efficacy of home economics teachers. Efforts should be made to help teachers have positive attitudes toward parents, students, and other teachers.

  • This study aims to analyze chlidcare philosophy and the architectural characteristics of communal childcare cooperative nurseries(parent cooperative childcare facilities), and also to examine their mutual relationship. The communal childcare cooperative is an ideal childcare method to break away from employee-supported childcare system and cooperatively solve childcare problems in the family community system. The child-rearing philosophy of the communal childcare can bring spontaneous and creative development amidst 'daily life' and 'play' by switching from knowledge and skill-oriented education and puts an emphasis on physical environments in child's growth. The features of architecture related the childcare philosophy derived from this study are as follows: the way of participation and self-help, the extension of spatial scope and focuses on outside space, architecture of house-like residence rather than educational facility, spatial 'overlapping' focusing on transitional space and multi-purpose space rather than spatial partitions, the pursuit of creativity through play is realized in the incompletion and unspecification of space evolving over time.

  • Influence of fuel concentration gradient was investigated near flame extinction limit in buoyancy-suppressed non-premixed counterflow flame with triple co-flow burner. The use of He curtain flow produced a microgravity level of $10^{-2}-10^{-3}g$ in He-diluted non-premixed counter triple co-flow flame experiments. Flame stability map was presented based on flame extinction and oscillation near extinction limit. The stability map via critical diluent mole fraction with global strain rate was represented by varying outer and inner He-diluted mole fractions. The flame extinction modes could be classified into five: an extinction through the shrinkage of the outmost edge flame forward the flame center with and without self-excitation, respectively ((I) and (II)), an extinction via the rapid expansion of a flame hole while the outmost edge flame is stationary (III), both the outermost and the center edge flames oscillate, and then a donut shaped flame is formed or the flame is entirely extinguished (IV), a shrinkage of the outermost edge flame without self-excitation followed by shrinking or sustain the inner flame (V).

  • SNS(Social Network Services) is being recognized as an important part in our society, individual lives and corporate business aspects, and the influence of SNS is growing explosively as expansion and supply of infrastructures that support mobile environments increase. Previous studies related to SNS were focused on user acceptance of new technology, based on Technology Acceptance Model(TAM). However, they had a limitation to focus on technology acceptance, without the consideration of personal and behavioral factors in SNS use. However, above all, successful SNS requires the understanding of users who are active on the network. Therefore, from the user's perspective, this study attempted a multi-dimensional approach by reflecting characteristics that come from SNS usage. This study considered user innovation, virtual skill, self-efficacy, social pressure and network effect as independent variables, and perceived ease-of-use, perceived usefulness and perceived value as mediating variables, and intention-to-use as dependent variable. The result showed that user innovation, self-efficacy, social pressure and network effect had a significant effect on the mediating variables. The practical contribution of this study is to suggest useful decision alternatives concerned to marketing strategy for acquiring and retaining lone-term customers related to SNS business.

  • This paper reviews the categories and properties of risk measures, analyzes the classes and structural equations of volatility forecasting models, and presents the practical methodologies and their expansion methods of estimating and forecasting the volatilities of exchange rates using Excel spreadsheet modeling. We apply the GARCH(1,1) model to the Korean won(KRW) denominated daily and monthly exchange rates of USD, JPY, EUR, GBP, CAD and CNY during the periods from January 4, 1998 to December 31, 2009, make the estimates of long-run variances in the returns of exchange rate calculated as the step-by-step change rate, and test the adequacy of estimated GARCH(1,1) model using the Box-Pierce-Ljung statistics Q and chi-square test-statistics. We demonstrate the adequacy of GARCH(1,1) model in estimating and forecasting the volatility of exchange rates in the monthly series except the semi-variance GARCH(1,1) applied to KRW/JPY100 rate. But we reject the adequacy of GARCH(1,1) model in estimating and forecasting the volatility of exchange rates in the daily series because of the very high Box-Pierce-Ljung statistics in the respective time lags resulting to the self-autocorrelation. In conclusion, the GARCH(1,1) model provides for the easy and helpful tools to forecast the exchange rate volatilities and may become the powerful methodology to overcome the application difficulties with the spreadsheet modeling.

  • [ $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Co_{1-x}Mn_xO_3$ ] cathode as a high performance cathode on YSZ electrolyte was studied by analyzing impedance spectra. It was shown that cathode property of $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Co_{1-x}Mn_xO_3$ is bet ter than that of$La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}CoO_3$. At $700^{\circ}C$ in air environment, $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Co_{0.4}Mn_{0.6}O_3$ cathode on CGO- layered YSZ electrolyte showed very low area specific resistance of $0.14{\Omega}cm^2$, which is low enough for intermediate-temperature sol id oxide fuel cells. This is because material properties of ionic conductivity and thermal expansion compatibility with electrolyte were optimized. Judging from activation energy and oxygen part i al pressure dependance of cathode property, it was noted that oxygen surface exchange kinetics is dominantly influential on cathode property in higher temperature region than $700^{\circ}C$ and oxygen self-diffusion in cathode material is more influential in lower temperature region.
