Background: Although the prevalence of cancer is increasing, it is no longer synonymous with death. The number of cancer survivors is estimated to be increasing due to development in medical treatments and social programs; cancer survivors are increasingly returning to work after long-term unemployment. Thus, we examined the quality of life (QOL) and the factors associated with return of cancer survivors to the workplace. Materials and Methods: This study was performed using the 2008 Community Health Survey administered by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (N=548). We used Chi-square tests to compare demographic variables based on self-perceived health status, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) to compare QOL scores among groups. We also performed a mixed-model analysis of the relationship between QOL and factors at the workplaces of cancer survivors. Results: Based on the results of our study, the overall QOL of cancer survivors was associated with 'mutual respect', 'free emotional expression', occupation, and age. Moreover, different trends of QOL according to self-perceived health were identified on additional analysis. In the 'bad' self-perceived health group, QOL was significantly different according to income. The QOL of cancer survivors in the low-income group was lower than in the other groups. Conversely, the 'normal' group had a lower QOL caused by 'no mutual respect' and "no free emotional expression" in the workplace. The QOL in the 'good' group based on self-perceived health was higher in the younger age group. Conclusions: There may be a significant relationship between QOL and workplace factors for cancer survivors, although further study is needed to investigate this relationship in detail. This may facilitate formulation of policy and efforts to prevent and manage the decline in the QOL of cancer survivors returning to work.
Unlike Sijo researchers' wishes, there is no enough place for Sijo in school education. Its falling tendency has caused the crisis of literature. Literature is not only an act of making a human life become itself humanly but also the most effective way for communicating with all around the world. Especially, Sijo is an important genre for four reasons: (1)understanding about the traditional sentiment, ideology (thoughts), and way of life of a people, (2) including the wisdom to help us live in reality, (3)having a set pattern (standard) which is an important element to develop the language culture, (4)letting us know about the root of the racial literature. These peculiar characteristics of Sijo are the machinery and materials that can elevate the self-identity of teenager who has been undergoing emotional and psychological instability. Therefore, Sijo education should be done to draw a 'clear-map' by using the following order: to understand of Sijo and apply the subjective experience, imagination, and pre-understanding of a learner to it - to understand the embodied world in Sijo in the concrete and experience the basic manner about the way of putting the world into shape - to express the learner's idea and feeling freely and positively - the expression activity focused on their critical thinking - an appreciation expression stressed on the learner's activity to elevate the self-identity.
This study aims to analyze the relationship between scientific content knowledge of science-gifted elementary students and their expression of scientific creativity, and the characteristics of divided groups according to the levels of their scientific content knowledge and scientific creativity. A science-gifted program was implemented to 33 forth-graders in the Science-Gifted Education Center of an education office in Seoul, Korea. The method of evaluating scientific knowledge was divided into well-structured paper-pencil test (asking specific and limited range of content knowledge of plants) and ill-structured descriptive test (stating all the knowledge they know about plants) to find out which methods were more related to scientific creativity. In addition, in order to find out the characteristics of each group according to the level of scientific content knowledge and scientific creativity, students were required to answer a questionnaire about their own self-perception of scientific knowledge and scientific creativity and how to obtain scientific knowledge. The main results of this study are as follows. First, Both well-structured paper-pencil test (r=.38) and ill-structured descriptive test (r=.51) results of elementary science gifted students were significantly correlated with scientific creativity. Second, As a result of the regression analysis on scientific creativity of science-gifted elementary students, both the knowledge measured by the two evaluation methods have the ability to explain scientific creativity. Third, the students were categorized into four groups according to the levels of their scientific content knowledge and their expression of scientific creativity, and the result showed that the higher the knowledge of science, the higher the scientific creativity. Fourth, the description about self-perception of scientific knowledge revealed that the highest percentage of Type LL students of all 13 students (53.8%, 7 students) answered 'I have little knowledge of plants because I have little interest in them.' Fifth, the description about self-perception of scientific knowledge revealed that the highest percentage of Type HH students of all 15 students (40%, 6 students) answered 'I think my science creativity is high through my experience of scientific creativity. Sixth, the responses to the Questionnaire revealed that 'reading' was the most popular way to obtain scientific knowledge, with 27 out of total 33 students choosing it. In particular, all 18 students from Type HH (high scientific knowledge and high scientific creativity) and Type HL (high scientific knowledge and low scientific creativity) - those with high scientific knowledge - gave that response. On the basis of this research, we should explore practical teaching methods and environment for gifted students to improve their scientific creativity by revealing the nature of the factors that affect scientific creativity and analyzing relationship between knowledge and scientific creativity.

Thinning of apple fruitlets is one of the most laborious and important works for the improvement of fruit quality and for the promotion of sufficient flower bud formation to prevent alternate bearing in commercial cultivars. Lateral fruits of self-thinning apple cultivars fall naturally within 30 days after full bloom and only central fruit remains to mature. Differences of gene expression between central fruit and lateral fruit were investigated by differential display (DD) PCR. Partial cDNAs of 30 clones from the central fruit and 24 clones from the lateral fruit were selected for nucleotide sequence determination and homology searches. The levels of transcripts coding for proteins involved in pathogenesis related proteins, senescence, temperature stress, protein degradation, fruit browning, sorbitol metabolism were significantly higher in pedicels of lateral fruit than in pedicels of central fruit. On the other hand, the up-regulation of proteins involved in anthocyanin and flavanol biosynthesis and ethylene synthesis were observed in pedicels of central fruit. In Real time PCR analysis, cytochrome P450 gene was confirmed as showing a higher expression level in lateral fruit than in central fruit. The results of this study indicate that differentially expressed genes are related to self-thinning characteristics in apple tree.
Human embryonic stem (ES) cells retain the capacity for self-renewal, are pluripotent and differentiate into the three embryonic germ layer cells. The regulatory transcription factors Oct4, Nanog and Sox2 play an important role in maintaining the pluripotency of human ES cells. The aim of this research was to identify unknown genes upregulated in human ES cells along with Oct4, Nanog, and Sox2. This study characterizes an unknown gene, named chromosome 1 open reading frame 31 (C1orf31) mapping to chromosome 1q42.2. The product of C1orf31 is the hypothetical protein LOC388753 having a cytochrome c oxidase subunit VIb (COX6b) motif. In order to compare expression levels of C1orf31 in human ES cells, human embryoid body cells, vascular angiogenic progenitor cells (VAPCs), cord-blood endothelial progenitor cells (CB-EPCs) and somatic cell lines, we performed RT-PCR analysis. Interestingly, C1orf31 was highly expressed in human ES cells, cancer cell lines and SV40-immortalized cells. It has a similar expression pattern to the Oct4 gene in human ES cells and cancer cells. Also, the expression level of C1orf31 was shown to be upregulated in the S phase and early G2 phase of synchronized HeLa cells, leading us to purpose that it may be involved in the S/G2 transition process. For these reasons, we assume that C1orf31 may play a role in on differentiation of human ES cells and carcinogenesis.
Cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) is a maternally inherited trait leading to loss of the ability to produce fertile pollen and is extensively used in hybrid crop breeding. Ogura-CMS was originally generated by insertion of orf138 upstream of atp8 in the radish mitochondrial genome and transferred to Brassica crops for hybrid breeding. Gene expression changes by dysfunctional mitochondria in Ogura-CMS result in pollen developmental defects, but little is known about gene expression patterns in vegetative tissue. To examine the interaction between nuclear and organellar regulation of gene expression, microarray and subsequent gene expression experiments were conducted with leaves of $F_1$ hybrid Chinese cabbage derived from self-incompatible (SI) or Ogura-CMS parents (Brassica rapa ssp. pekinensis). Out of 24,000 genes deposited on a KBGP24K microarray, 66 genes were up-regulated and 26 genes were down-regulated by over 2.5 fold in the CMS leaves. Up-regulated genes included stress-response genes and mitochondrial protein genes, while genes for ascorbic acid biosynthesis and thylakoid proteins were down-regulated. Most of the major component genes for light reactions of photosynthesis were highly expressed in leaves of both SI and CMS plants, but most of the corresponding proteins were found to be greatly reduced in leaves of CMS plants, indicating posttranscriptional regulation. Reduction in thylakoid proteins and chlorophylls led to reduction in photosynthetic efficiency and chlorosis of Ogura-CMS at low temperatures. This research provides a foundation for studying chloroplast function regulated by mitochondrial signal and for using organelle genome introgression in molecular breeding.

Therefore, it is assumed that the quality of impact the ads expression has is not a personal sense of ads creator based on a consumer survey but an intuitive judgement made by both of them who share their lifestyles. In conclusion, the finding of the quality of impact of ads expression through the lifestyle of ads creator is to make sure that, by directly applying the lifestyle exposed from within the prerequisites of customer to that of ads creator, the inter-subjective ads creation needs to be formulated.

The aim of this study is to examine the expression of the meaning of tradition and the archetype of korean image in it in order to find out korean image on reflection of the meaning of tradition. The results are as follows. 1) The nature of tradition illuminates the past, and lights up the present. It cannot be a portrait which enable to have a future prospect and also a cornerstone a tutore pave the way for of the better direction. 2) It's meaning like to say that korean style it self is considered as an expression of tradition. But it korean tradition has a tradition course in a dialectical way, new creation will be possible, 3) The social and cultural aspects change as time goes by through the tendency of society and it's culture we can get some imformation about the inner spirit of human being. The inner spirit of human being is the spirit of our nation so that we can get oringinality from the culture of our nation. 4) On the aspect of idea oganic system must be visualized on the basis of scale whichs accustomed to our emotion. 5) We can also find out the growing tendency that architects are willing to express the typological image as spacial arrangement and ideology of the Korean image to their works recently. It can be defined that it is a progressive tendency for the expression of Korean image in contemporary architecture. This study is needed to have move practical and concrete examination in order to approach more ideologically the expression of the sense of tradition.
One of the major objectives of the food industry is the enrichment of the functional properties and nutritional value of soybean protein. To attain this goal, an expression system of cDNA encoding native and protein-engineered soybean proteins in a microorganism must be developed and the function then ability of self-assembly and the functionalities of the expressed proteins should be evaluated before the modified genes are transfered to soybean plants. The pro-$\beta$-conglycinin synthesized in E. coli BL21(DE3) comprised approximately 20% of the total bacterial proteins and the expressed protein are formed soluble and trimer such as native protein in E. coli cells. The highly expressed protein was purified to homogeneity by salt precipitation with 20~40$ Ammonium sulfate ion-exchange chromatography with Q-Sepharose and hydrophobic column chromatography with Butyltoyopearl. Therefore, we concluded that the high-level expression system of $\beta$-conglycinin cDNA was established and a relatively simple and rapid method for purifying pro-$\beta$-conglicinin was also developed.
Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNA molecules found in multicellular eukaryotes which are implicated in development of cancer, including cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). Expression is controlled by transcription factors (TFs) that bind to specific DNA sequences, thereby controlling the flow (or transcription) of genetic information from DNA to messenger RNA. Interactions result in biological signal control networks. Materials and Methods: Molecular components involved in cSCC were here assembled at abnormally expressed, related and global levels. Networks at these three levels were constructed with corresponding biological factors in term of interactions between miRNAs and target genes, TFs and miRNAs, and host genes and miRNAs. Up/down regulation or mutation of the factors were considered in the context of the regulation and significant patterns were extracted. Results: Participants of the networks were evaluated based on their expression and regulation of other factors. Sub-networks with two core TFs, TP53 and EIF2C2, as the centers are identified. These share self-adapt feedback regulation in which a mutual restraint exists. Up or down regulation of certain genes and miRNAs are discussed. Some, for example the expression of MMP13, were in line with expectation while others, including FGFR3, need further investigation of their unexpected behavior. Conclusions: The present research suggests that dozens of components, miRNAs, TFs, target genes and host genes included, unite as networks through their regulation to function systematically in human cSCC. Networks built under the currently available sources provide critical signal controlling pathways and frequent patterns. Inappropriate controlling signal flow from abnormal expression of key TFs may push the system into an incontrollable situation and therefore contributes to cSCC development.
