  • Excellent employees are those who take on extra responsibilities and commitments at work. Hence, employees must pay attention to out-of-role activities that can help the company perform better. When a person takes on more responsibilities than he can handle, they will have to deal with the issue of work-family balance. This paper examines how the consistency of WFC affects employees' organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) using the Resource Conservation Theory. This study uses empirical research methodologies to assess 417 employees as a sample. (1) When the matches of work-to-family conflict (WFC) and family-to-work conflict (FWC) are consistent, the employee self-control resource depletion level is lower, and OCB is higher in the "high-high" consistency matching state. (2) The "low-high" match had a higher OCB than the "high-low" match when the WFC and FWC matches were inconsistent. (3) In the process of WFC affecting OCB, the depletion of self-control resources acts as a mediating factor. (4) Emotional intelligence plays a moderating role in the whole model. The lower the emotional intelligence was, the stronger the positive relationship between the consistency of WFC, FWC, and self-control resource depletion was.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to present a detailed view of the self-regulation of 5-year-old children based on parental attitudes and consistency. Methods: The research was conducted among 144 pairs of parents (288 people) of 5-year-old children residing in Seoul. Results: The resultsare as follows. First, with regards to self-regulation based on a child'sgenderand mother's parental attitudes, sub-factors such as parental attitudes and parental interaction were found to have significant effects on self-determination. Also, parental attitudes and parental interaction were found to have significant effects on the sub-factors of self-monitoring, such as self-evaluation and self-determination and the sub-factors of self-regulation, such as behavioral inhibition and emotionality. Second, the percentage of parents whose parental attitude was consistent at 58.3%, which is higher than the percentage of parents whose parenting attitude was inconsistent at 41.7%. The results of self-regulation were significantly higher when parental attitudes were consistent than when they were inconsistent. Conclusion/Implications: This research is significant in that it offered a concrete view of parental attitudes and consistency status that affect child's self-regulation.

  • Elastic wave propagation in discrete random medium studies to predict dynamic effective properties of composite materials containing spherical inclusions. A self-consistent method is proposed which is analogous to the well-known coherent potential approximation. Three conditions that must be satisfied by two effective elastic moduli and effective density are derived for the time without limit of frequency. The derived self-consistency conditions have the physical meaning that the scattering of coherent wave by the constituents in effective medium is vanished on the average. The frequency-dependent complex effective wave speed and coherent attenuation can be obtained by solving the derived self-consistency conditions numerically. The wave speed and attenuation obtained from present theory are shown to be in the better agreements with previous experimental observations than the previous theory.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate psychometric properties of the instrument, Resuscitation Self-Efficacy Scale for nurses. Methods: This was a methodological study for instrument development and psychometric testing. The initial item pool derived from literature review and experts resulted in 30 items linked to resuscitation self-efficacy. A convenience sample of 509 Korean nurses from eleven academic teaching hospitals participated in a survey to examine psychometric properties of the scale. To examine construct validity, exploratory factor analysis and known-group comparison were used. Cronbach's coefficient alpha was used to determine the scale's internal consistency reliability. Results: The final scale included 17 items with four-component structure termed 'Recognition', 'Debriefing and recording', 'Responding and rescuing', and 'Reporting'. These four factors accounted for 57.5% of the variance. Each subscale and the total scale demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency: .82; .88; .87; .83; and .91 respectively. Experienced nurses reported significantly higher self-efficacy mean scores in both total and subscales compared to new graduate nurses. Conclusion: The Resuscitation Self-Efficacy Scale for nurses yields reliable and valid results in appraising the level of resuscitation self-efficacy for Korean nurses. Further study is needed to test and refine the scale.
