OFDM modulation has been used for a transmission scheme in 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) and Wi-Fi systems to mitigate the effects of frequency selective fading channels. An OFDM modulation is a block transmission scheme because an OFDM symbol consists of multiple subcarriers with narrow bandwidth. Therefore, all OFDM symbols in a frame should be filled out with data and padding bits. Depending on the amount of data, more padding bits than information bits can occupy the last OFDM symbol. Such inefficiency causes the loss of throughput. To overcome this problem, an efficiency padding method is proposed by using the property of DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform). In the proposed method, symbol duration of the last symbol is changed depending on the number used data subcarriers in the last symbol. With numerical evaluation, it is examined that throughput enhancement achieved by the proposed method can be about 20% depending a transmission scheme and data length.

This paper presents the improvement of BER performance using fading compensation method for 16 QAM-TCM to reduce the effects of multi-path fading in mobile radio environments. We propose the multi-pilot symbol aided fading compensation technique using Gausian interpolation method for inter-symbol interference or fading distortion occured in frequency selective fading channel. The proposed system is combined coding and modulation scheme for improving the reliability of a digital transmission system without increasing the transmitted power or the required bandwidth. In the fading compensation, the pilot symbols from a known sequence is multiplexed into the data symbols at regular intervals to from a frames for transmission. And we use a modified bit reversal block interleaver to randomize burst errors. The results show that significant improvements in the bit-error rate performances can be achieved by the proposed techniques.
The transmission capacity of wireless communication systems may become dramatically high by employ multiple transmit and receive antennas with space-time coding techniques appropriate to multiple transmit antennas. For large number of transmit antennas and at high bandwidth efficiencies, the receiver may become too complex whenever correlation across transmit antennas is introduced. Reducing decoding complexity at receiver by combining array processing and space-time codes (STC) helps a communication system using STC to overcome the big obstacle that prevents it from achieving a desired high transmission rate. Multi-carrier CDMA (MC-CDMA) allows providing good performance in a channel with high inter-symbol interference. Antenna array, STC and MC-CDMA system have a similar characteristic that transmit-receive data streams are divided into sub-streams. Thus, there may be a noticeable reduction of receiver complexity when we combine them together. In this paper, the combination of array processing and STC in MC-CDMA system over slow selective-fading channel is investigated and compared with corresponding existing MC-CDMA system using STC. A refinement of this basic structure leads to a system design principle in which we have to make a trade off between transmission rate, decoding complexity, and length of spreading code to reach a given desired design goal.

For provisioning reliable data transmission, the 3GPP RLC specification adopted a selective-repeat ARQ scheme assisted by a window-based admission control scheme. In the 3GPP ARQ, which is a member of the selective-repeat ARQ clan, inheres the reordering problem A long and irregular reordering time results in the degradation of throughput and delay performance, and may incur the overflow of the reordering buffer. Furthermore, the reordering time must be regulated to meet the requirements of some services which are loss-sensitive and delay-sensitive as well. Perceiving the reordering hazard, we propose an alternative, identified as snowball scheme, to the original admission control scheme of the 3GPP ARQ with aiming at deflating the occupancy of the reordering buffer. A unique feature of the snowball scheme is to reject a new DATA PDU if it is non-adjacent to any DATA PDU sojourning at the reordering buffer. Such an intentional rejection apparently reduces the occupancy of the reordering buffer while it may deteriorate the throughput and delay performance. Developing an analytical approximation method, we investigate the effect of snowball scheme on the saturated occupancy and throughput. Also, we, using a simulation method, evaluate the peak occupancy, normalized throughput and average delay in the practical environment. From the simulation results, we reveal that the snowball scheme is able to enhance occupancy performance as well as throughput performance compared with the original admission control scheme of the 3GPP ARQ.

In this paper, optimized media data retrieval and transmission based on the Hybrid CDN/P2P architecture and selective storage through user's prediction of requestability enable seamless data transfer to users and reduction of unnecessary traffic. We also propose a new media management method to minimize the possibility of transmission delay and packet loss so that media can be utilized in real time. To this end, we construct each media into logical segments, continuously compute weights for each segment, and determine whether to store segment data based on the calculated weights. We also designate scattered computing nodes on the network as local groups by distance and ensure that storage space is efficiently shared and utilized within those groups. Experiments conducted to verify the efficiency of the proposed technique have shown that the proposed method yields a relatively good performance evaluation compared to the existing methods, which can enable both initial latency reduction and seamless transmission.
Medial vestibular nucleus (MVN) neurons are involved in the reflex control of the head and eyes, and in the recovery of vestibular function after the formation of peripheral vestibular lesions. In our present study, whole cell patch clamp recordings were carried out on MVN neurons in brainstem slices from neonatal rats to investigate the actions of a group I metabotropic glutamate receptor (mGluR) agonist upon synaptic transmission and ionic currents. Application of the mGluR I agonist (S)-3,5- dihydroxyphenylglycine (DHPG) increased the frequency of miniature inhibitory postsynaptic currents (mIPSCs) but had no effect upon amplitude distributions. To then identify which of mGluR subtypes is responsible for the actions of DHPG in the MVN, we employed two novel subtype selective antagonists. (S)-(+)-$\alpha$-amino-a-methylbenzeneacetic acid (LY367385) is a potent competitive antagonist that is selective for mGluR1, whereas 2-methyl-6-(phenylethynyl)-pyridine (MPEP) is a potent noncompetitive antagonist of mGluR5. Both LY367385 and MPEP antagonized the DHPG-induced increase of mIPSCs, with the former being more potent. DHPG was also found to induce an inward current, which can be enhanced under depolarized conditions. This DHPG-induced current was reduced by both LY367385 and MPEP. The DHPG-induced inward current was also suppressed by the PLC blocker U-73122, the $IP_3$ receptor antagonist 2-APB, and following the depletion of the intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ pool by thapsigargin. These data suggest that the DHPG-induced inward current may be mainly regulated by the intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ store via the PLC-$IP_3$ pathway. In conclusion, mGluR I, via pre- and postsynaptic actions, may modulate the excitability of the MVN neurons.

In this paper, we present an adaptive modulation technique for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) for broadband wireless communications. Also, using improved channel prediction, we enhance the performance of adaptive OFDM in high mobility environments. Adaptive modulation technique has been shown to achieve reliable high-rate data transmission over frequency-selective fading channel when OFDM is employed. This scheme requires the accurate channel information between two stations for a better performance. In an outdoor high mobility environment, most of adaptive OFDM systems have to be given the channel information transmitted from the receiver. Even if it is possible, there is some delay. Moreover, the channel impulse response between two stations is very rapidly varied. If the channel information is obsolete at the time of transmission, then poor system performance will result. In order to solve this problem, we propose adaptive OFDM with improved channel predictor. The proposed bit allocation algorithm has a lower complexity and the proposed scheme mitigates the effect of channel delay. Robust approach is less sensitive to outdated channel information. Performance results show that the proposed scheme can achieve considerable performance enhancement.

ITU-R M.1842-1, as a well-known specification dedicated to maritime mobile applications, has standardized wireless transmission protocols according to the particular characteristics of a maritime communications scenario. A time division multiple access (TDMA) frame structure, along with modulation schemes to achieve a high data rate, has been described clearly in ITU-R M.1842-1. However, several specification items are still under "to be decided" status, which brings ambiguity to research works. In addition, the current version of ITU-R M.1842-1 is focused mainly on maritime transmissions in open-sea areas, where the cyclic prefix (CP) is set to zero and only 16-QAM is used in the multi-carrier (MC) system. System performance might be dramatically degraded in coastline areas due to the inter-symbol interference (ISI) caused by selective fading. This is because there is a higher probability that the signal will be reflected by obstacles in coastline areas. In this paper, we introduce the transmission resource block (TRB) dedicated to ITU-R M.1842-1 for a ship ad-hoc network (SANET), where the pilot pattern of TRB is based on the terrestrial trunked radio (TETRA). After that, we evaluated SANET performance under the maritime channel model in a coastline area. In order to avoid noise amplification and to overcome the ISI caused by selective fading, several strategies are suggested and compared in the channel estimation and equalization procedures, where the link-level simulation results finally validate our proposals.
In this paper, we present an effective encryption algorithm for 3D printing models in the frequency domain of discrete cosine transform to prevent illegal copying, access in the secured storage and transmission. Facet data of 3D printing model is extracted to construct a three by three matrix that is then transformed to the frequency domain of discrete cosine transform. The proposed algorithm is based on encrypting the DC coefficients of matrixes of facets in the frequency domain of discrete cosine transform in order to generate the encrypted 3D printing model. Experimental results verified that the proposed algorithm is very effective for 3D printing models. The entire 3D printing model is altered after the encryption process. The proposed algorithm is provide a better method and more security than previous methods.

This paper proposes a new multicarrier code division multiple access (CDMA) system. The proposed multicarrier CDMA system provides the advantages that the transmission bandwidth is more efficiently utilized by using divided spreading sequence, time and frequency diversity is achieved in frequency selective nultipath (acting channel, and inter-carrier interference (ICI) can be minimized by using specific data and code pattern. In this system, transmitted data bits are serial-to-parallel converted to some parallel branches. On each branch each bit is direct-sequence spread-spectrum modulated by divided spreading sequences and transmitted using orthogonal carriers. The receiver providers a Rake for each carrier, and the outputs of Rakes are combined to get time and frequency diversity. This multicarrier CDMA system allows additional flexibility in the choice of system parameters. Upon varying system parameters, bit error rate (BER) performance is examined for the proposed multicarrier CDMA system. Simulation results show that the proposed multicarrier CDMA scheme can achieve better performance than the other types of conventional multicarrier CDMA systems.
