  • In this paper, we propose a new relay selection technique which utilizes interference cancellation with decoding information at multiple relays for buffer-aided successive relaying systems. The transmitting relay is selected if its own transmission to the destination is successful and the number of relays which can successfully decode the data from the source is the maximum at the same time. Simulation results show that the proposed relay selection technique significantly outperforms the conventional relay selection scheme in terms of outage probability.

  • Recently, for spectral efficiency and power saving, an incremental best relay selection of a cooperative diversity scheme is proposed. However during the best relay selection process, there may exist a delay between channel estimation and actual data transmission. Consequently, this delay causes outdated channel state information (CSI). We analytically derive the effect of the outdated CSI to an incremental best relay selection diversity scheme. It is noted that the system performance deteriorates with decreasing the value of the correlation coefficient sensitively. When the correlation coefficient reduces from 1 to 0.9, the most performance degradation is denoted. However, the performance degradation is diminished with decreasing the correlation coefficient.

  • In this paper, we investigate traffic scheduling for a delay-sensitive multi-hop relay network, and aim to minimize the priority-based end-to-end delay of different data packet via joint relay selection, subcarrier assignment, and power allocation. We first derive the priority-based end-to-end delay based on queueing theory, and then propose a two-step method to decompose the original optimization problem into two sub-problems. For the joint subcarrier assignment and power control problem, we utilize an efficient particle swarm optimization method to solve it. For the relay selection problem, we prove its convexity and use the standard Lagrange method to deal with it. The joint relay selection, subcarriers assignment and transmission power allocation problem for each hop can also be solved by an exhaustive search over a finite set defined by the relay sensor set and available subcarrier set. Simulation results show that both the proposed routing scheme and the resource allocation scheme can reduce the average end-to-end delay.

  • In this paper, we investigate physical layer security for multiple decode-and-forward (DF) relaying underlay cognitive radio networks (CRNs) with fixed transmit power at the secondary network against passive eavesdropping attacks. We propose a simple relay selection scheme to improve wireless transmission security based on the instantaneous channel information of all legitimate users and the statistical information about the eavesdropper channels. The closed-form expressions of the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity and the secrecy outage probability (SOP) are derived over independent and non-identically distributed Rayleigh fading environments. Furthermore, we conduct the asymptotic analysis to evaluate the secrecy diversity order performance and prove that full diversity is achieved by using the proposed relay selection. Finally, numerical results are presented to verify the theoretical analysis and depict that primary interference constrain has a significant impact on the secure performance and a proper transmit power for the second transmitters is preferred to be energy-efficient and improve the secure performance.

  • In this paper, we propose a new channel estimation scheme for amplify and forward cooperative diversity with relay selection. In order to select best relay, it is necessary to know channel state information (CSI) at the destination. Most of the previous works, however, assume that perfect CSI is available at the destination. In addition, when the number of relay is increased it is difficult to estimate CSI through all relays within coherence time of a channel because of the large amount of frame overhead for channel estimation. In a proposed channel estimation scheme, each terminal has distinct pilot signal which is orthogonal each other. By using orthogonal property of pilot signals, CSI is estimated over two pilot signal transmission phases so that frame overhead is reduced significantly. Due to the orthogonal property among pilot signals, estimation error does not depend on the number of relays. Simulation result shows that the proposed channel estimation scheme provides accurate CSI at the destination.

  • To solve the problem of transmission errors in stereoscopic images, this paper proposes a novel error concealment (EC) method using superpixel segmentation and adaptive disparity selection (SSADS). Our algorithm consists of two steps. The first step is disparity estimation for each pixel in a reference image. In this step, the numbers of superpixel segmentation labels of stereoscopic images are used as a new constraint for disparity matching to reduce the effect of mismatching. The second step is disparity selection for a lost block. In this step, a strategy based on boundary smoothness is proposed to adaptively select the optimal disparity which is used for error concealment. Experimental results demonstrate that compared with other methods, the proposed method has significant advantages in both objective and subjective quality assessment.

  • Cooperative transmission is an effective solution to improve the performance of wireless communications over fading channels without the need for physical co-located antenna arrays. In this paper, selection combining is used at the destination instead of maximal ratio combing to optimize the structure of destination and to reduce power consumption in selective decode-and-forward relaying networks. For an arbitrary number of relays, an exact and closed-form expression of the bit error rate (BER) is derived for M-PAM, M-QAM, and M-PSK, respectively, in both independent identically distributed and independent but not identically distributed Rayleigh fading channels. A variety of simulations are performed and show that they match exactly with analytic ones. In addition, our results show that the optimum number of relays depend not only on channel conditions (operating SNRs) but also on modulation schemes which to be used.

  • Lately in KEPCO, the power plant capacity has increasingly become larger than before and it has become difficult to get R.O.W for T/L. Therefore KEPCO decided to increase its system voltage level from 345kV to 765kV. By doing this, KEPCO would like to expand its transmission capability by less T/L route. In 765kV system, we should consider various kinds of environmental impacts that can be neglected in lower voltage level. These environmental impacts are very important factor in T/L design. That can be changed greatly according to the selected conductor. And also conductor selection has relation with the economy of T/L construction directly. This paper deals with some general factors to be considered and basic principles about the conductor and ground wire selection for 765KV T/L with referring to the experiences of foreign utilities.

  • In this paper, a new error concealment algorithm is proposed for the H.264 standard. The algorithm consists of two processes. The first process uses a fuzzy logic method to select the size type of lost blocks. The motion vector of a lost block is calculated from the current frame, if the motion vectors of the neighboring blocks surrounding the lost block are discontinuous. Otherwise, the size type of the lost block can be determined from the preceding frame. The second process is an error concealment algorithm via a proposed adapted multiple-reference-frames selection for finding the lost motion vector. The adapted multiple-reference-frames selection is based on the motion estimation analysis of H.264 coding so that the number of searched frames can be reduced. Therefore the most accurate mode of the lost block can be determined with much less computation time in the selection of the lost motion vector. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves from 0.5 to 4.52 dB improvement when compared to the method in VM 9.0.

  • In this paper, to reduce uplink feedback information for the beam weight and simultaneously maintaining the performance, we propose a MIMO-OFDM (Multi Input Multi Output-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system based on beamforming with antenna selection. In the proposed system, to perform the beamforming with more useful transmit antennas, the optimal combination of transmit antennas with maximum MRT (Maximum Ratio Transmission) beamforming gain is selected. Simulation results reveal that the proposed MIMO-OFDM system adopting the beamforming with antenna selection can reduce the feedback information for the beam weights as compared to the system using all the transmit antennas without serious degradation of system performance.
