  • This study developed the classification of National Soil Quality Monitoring Network (NSQM) and its site selection criteria to meet the recently established purposes of the NSQM. The NSQM were suggested by this study to classify into the six-purposes site groups from the current classification of land uses. The six purposes site groups were 1) intensive observation sites, 2) contaminant loading sites, 3) human activity sites, 4) background sites, 5) river soil sites, and 6) sites near the groundwater quality monitoring wells. Furthermore, this study developed the site selection criteria of NSQM utilizing the accumulated NSQM data, road traffic data, chemical emission data, census, soil information, and the literature related to soil quality variation due to contaminant loads. For selecting suitable sites for NSQM, this study used road traffic, chemical emission, the distance from the contaminant sources, and population information as specific criteria. The suggested site classification and criteria were appled for the current 100 NSQM sites for evaluation. Forty sites were met to the criteria suggested by this study, but sixty sites were not met to the criteria. However, some of the sixty sites also included the obscure sites that their addresses were not apparent to find them.

  • This presentation is a short summary of the Finnish process for selection and characterisation of potential sites for geological deep disposal of spent nuclear fuel. The process lasted nearly two decades from 1983 to 2000, and was concluded by the Government's Decision in Principle (DiP) on the construction of a repository in Olkiluoto. This presentation gives an outline of the early site selection criteria and a description of this process.

  • The main purpose of this study is to introduce a new method of evaluation, and to suggest how to apply geographic information system for optimum public facility site selection. For this purpose, a new evaluation model for the site selection is developed. The model provides a simple and easy method of evaluation. It also allows differences among location factors through two step weighting procedures. For a better understanding of the model, solution procedures and visual figures are illustrated with the case of Dalseong-Gun's city hall location example.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the site selection of U-library in Daejeon. For this study, through literature research and analysis of the current status of U-library in Korea, evaluation indicators for the site selection are derived, and based on this, the location of the public library, the radius of the proposed location, the transport performance by subway station, government offices, transportation facilities, convenience facilities, the current status of major facilities and the number of residents by region were analyzed and applied. Finally, based on the analysis results, a total of 16 U-library locations were proposed in the five autonomous districts in Daejeon: 2 in Daedeok-gu, 2 in Dong-gu, 4 in Seo-gu, 6 in Yuseong-gu, and 2 in Jung-gu.

  • The aim of this paper is to analyze factors for site selection of the cloud data center and to develop spatial data model considering disasters information based on the GIS. In this paper, historical areas of the natural and human disaster are considered to analyze location of the cloud center. The model is developed using ArcGIS S/W tool. The model is applied on Busan city using disaster data from storm and flood, and small administrative district located Kang-Seo-Gu is selected as site selection of the cloud data center of Busan.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the site selection and orientation which have affected the western missionaries in construction of the first western house in Cheongju area. The results of this study are as follows; In the site selection, they chose Tap-Dong hill, by finding the higher position and taking a fine view of all natural elements, because the alters like the tomb of Confucius, the existing settlement Godang village, Dang Mt. are already located around this area. And also it was that they could easily go into Tap-Dong hill through the existing alleys, These alleys, generated near the original road of Tap-Dong hill, are developed to modern road system. These alleys affect western house's entrance and orientation. In deciding the orientation of house, korean people prefer to south and east by considering Feng-shui theory; otherwise western house, specially the first house has a southwestern aspect, because the western missionaries have a preference for the topography, entry, and view than a house facing south.

  • The siting process of municipal solid waste treatment facility consists of a structured set of policies that guide the implementation of waste management goals. The main problems of siting process are the social and political context or the community opposition. During the past, the traditional siting process has been obsolete in most pans of the country, so public officials and researchers have tried to experiment with new policies and procedures. A number of controversial issues offer insight into the factors that are related to the local residents opposition to new waste treatment facilities. The purpose of this case study focused on the establishment of criteria in the site selection of waste treatment facilities which can carry out resources recovery. incineration and landfill simultaneously. That is to say. the main points are to make concrete the quantification standards of assignment and take an objective allotment scale according to the assessment factors. The summarized results are as follows; 1. To promote the site selection based on the guideline such as rational. objective and due process of law, it is desirable to inform the local residents the methods of assessment in advance. 2. Totally 20 factors for the site selection are divided into 3 categories such as living environment characteristics, technological location characteristics and socio-economic factors. And the supposed magnitude of weight in all items are equally applied. 3. In regard to 20 assessment factors, the allotment of point is distributed by the specific location characteristics. Namely to make the assessment easily, each factors are set the scale from 1 to 5 points en masse along the data which are acquired in the region.

  • The increase of rice productivity, the decrease of rice demand, aging farmers, and the market-opening of rice along with the domestic and international conditions changes have been led to the increase of the abandoned rice paddy fields. Such abandoned rice paddy fields have been left in many areas and most of them have become wetlands. The purpose of this study is methodology of selection to the wetland for development in the abandoned rice paddy fields along with surroundings. The selection of habitat suitability index assessment study to conservation and restoration was done through hydrology, wild animals habitation, wetland vegetation, outside disturbance, and natural purification capacity assessment. In addition, the same method was applied to assessment items and standards for both the restoration site selection and the type of restoration. Both assessment items and standards were applied to the sites, drawn on the maps, and overlayer for the comprehensive map, and then the wetland suitability index was applied to the suitable site. The development technique was applied to 10 sites near the Banwol Stream watershed in Gunpo, Gyeonggi province. The selection of conservation, restoration, and the optimal sites can lead to not only the biodiveristy increase in agricultural or semi natural areas but also to the establishment of ecological networks in national level.

  • The national park should be preserved in accordance with the regulation, but the development planning or facilities management planning has not been faithful to the spirits of the regulation. Recently natural environment has been radically changed, and especially damaged by large scale development of Service Facilities Zone. Thus the effective land use planning of the national park is required. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose the alternative site for The Second Service Facilities Zone in Mt. Kyeryong National Park using the GIS, and to compare the alternative site with the existing development site. Site selection was based on Rules of Combination which covers topographic analysis, viewshod analysis, distance analysis from hot spring well, land use analysis, and forest stand analysis.

  • This study proposes a new site selection model which reflects integrated opinions of several groups and identifies sites through objectivity of selection procedure. The proposed model consists of two parts, Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) and Geographic Information(GIS). This model was applied to Seocho-gu in Seoul. First, library site selection criteria were determined through literature study. Hierarchical relationship based on the questionnaire was determined and refined to be suited to Seocho-gu case. A survey was conducted with three groups, namely, library users, librarians, and public worker. A few inconsistent answers to the survey questionnaire were excluded and the relative importance of each criterion was measured. Next, an overlay method was used and the relative importance was used as a weight for selecting candidates. This process excluded the areas where a library was unable to be built, for example, rivers, military areas, other restricted areas by law, etc. and resulted in seventy-five sites. Five groups of candidates were identified according to the similarity of criteria. Finally, four groups, after eliminating one lowly fitted group, were determined.
