Lipoxygenase and Kunitz trypsin inhibitor protein are the main antinutritional factor in mature soybean seed. A new soybean cultivar, "Gaechuck#2" with yellow seed coat, lipoxygenase2,3-free and Kunitz trypsin inhibitor protein-free was developed. It was selected from the population derived from the cross between "Jinpumkong2ho" and C242. Plants of "Gaechuck#2" have determinate growth habit with purple flowers, tawny pubescence, yellow seed coat, yellow hilum, oval leaflet shape and brown pods at maturity. Seed protein and oil content on a dry weight basis were 40.7% and 18.7%, respectively. It has shown a resistant reaction to soybean necrosis, soybean mosaic virus, Cercospora leaf spot and blight, black root rot, pod and stem blight, and soybean pod borer. Gaechuck#2 matured in 4 October with plant height of 54cm and a 100-seed weight of 24.4g. Average Yield of Gaechuck#2 was 230 - 250 kg/10a in 2005 - 2007.
The seed characteristics of Withania somnifera were studied using light and scanning electron microscopy in order to determine the specific features of this species. The seed color is yellow, and the seed shape is reniform measuring between two to three millimeters. The seed of W. somnifera is exarillate and albuminous. The seed coat type is exotestal. The seed coat develops from a single integument. The young seed coat consists of single-layered exotesta, multi-layered mesotesta and single-layered endotesta. However, parenchymatous mesotesta layers are completely compressed at maturity. Therefore, the seed coat was represented by sclerenchymatous exotesta. The primary sculpture on the seed surface is reticulate, and cells are irregular in shape with undulating anticlinal walls. In addition, the seed surface has several characteristic holes between the anticlinal walls.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the changes of growth and maturity and to clarify the function of supernodulating characters, excessive nodules and high biological nitrogen fixation rate (BNF), on maturity in response to different planting time in supernodulating soybean mutants. Two supernodulating soybean mutants, Sakukei4 and SS2-2, and their parent cultivars, Enrei and Shinpaldalkong2, were planted on May 24 and June 15, 2004. The degrees of the shortening of growth days by the planting time delay were 18 to 22 days in four cultivar, and there were no significant differences among the cultivars. However, four cultivars showed the different maturity properties. Sakukei4, mutated from Enrei, showed later maturity than that of Enrei, and 882-2, mutated from Shinpaldalkong2, showed earlier maturity than that of Shinpaldalkong2. The plant and nodule dry weights at R6 stage of Sakukei4 showed the smallest decrement and those of SS2-2 was showed the largest decrement by the delay of planting time. The photosynthetic rates of Sakukei4 during the late reproductive growth period were slowly decreased, however those of SS2-2 were steeply decreased in two planting time treatments. Overall, the growth of Sakukei4 was decreased slowly, however the growth of SS2-2 was decreased sharply according to the delay of planting time. The percentage of seed yield of Sakukei4 in June planting plot compared with May planting plot at R8 stage was $92\%$, which was the lowest decreasing rate of yield among the cultivars, and in the case of SS2-2, it was in $76\%$, the highest one. These results indicated that the responses of supernodulating mutants by the delay of planting time were very similar to the wild types. This means supernodulating characters in supernodulating soybean mutants might not affect to the maturity property. Additionally, the maturity property could be considered as an important characteristics to decide or to select on the developments of supernodulating soybean mutants, which have a low productivity by an excessive nodules, especially.
Soybean seed injury was analyzed in the experiments that soybean pods were allowed to be sucked by adults of the bean bug, R. clavatus, and were picked with a specimen pin. While attack by the bean bug at podding stage of soybean caused the increase of empty pods and completely-undeveloped seeds, attack at full seed stage caused the increase of seeds wi distinct injury mark on seed-coat. The ratio of deformed seed was lower than those of injury-marked seed and undeveloped seed when attacked during all stages. In at full bloom stage hardly produced injury-marked seeds and deformed seeds. When the injured seeds were dyed with acid-fuchsine solution, stylet sheaths of R. clavatus formed on seed-coat were observed in 83% of undeveloped seeds formed under attack during podding stage and in 91% of injury-marked seeds formed during full seed stage. In pods injured with a specimen pin at full seed and full maturity stages, no healthy seeds could be obtained from the pods. And the more picked at full seed stage, the more deformed seeds were produced and the higher weight reduction of injury-marked seed occurred. However, pin-injury at full maturity stage didn't give rise to weight reduction of seeds.

In order to find out a high potential black soybean lines, of which demand has been increasing in Korea, twenty eight local cultivars were evaluated on agronomic characteristics and the classification of the cultivars was made by the cluster analysis. Days to maturity and days to growing of black soybeans were widely ranged from 58 to 82 days, and 117 to 148 days, respectively. Late maturing group showed over 140 maturity days, and heavy 100 seed weight. There was shown low yield potential in late maturing group, and growing days was positively correlated with flowering days, days to maturity, 100-seed weight and stem length, respectively. From the principal component analysis upper two components composed 76.5% cumulative eigen value to total. Nine varietal groups were identified in relations to their affinity of the black soybeans. Selected black soybeans, Namhae-2 and Hamyang-l were field-tested and those characteristics of many pod, small seed and high yield were found out to be suitable for sprouting.

This study was conducted to compare the agronomic traits of well-known colored native soybean germplasms. Recently, we are increasingly interested in colored as various functional ingredient of soybeans have revealed. We used a total of 396 soybean genetic resources, consisting of ten "Seonbijabikong", 110 "Jyinunikong", 276 "Seoritaekong". We sowed on 10th June 2018 at the field of Nongsaensmyeongro in Jeonju city. The average number of days to flowering, days to maturing and days to growth of colored soybean were 53, 84 and 136 days, respectively. Days to flowering of "Seonbijabikong" were ranged from 41 to 50 days with an average 48 days, those of "Jyinunikong" were ranged from 39 to 72 days with an average 52 days. Days to flowering of "Seoritaekong" were ranged from 35 to 63 days with an average 54 days, which were earlier in "Seonbijabikong", and similar with "Seoritaekong" and "Jyinunikong". Days to growth of "Seonbijabikong" were ranged from 125 to 137 days with an average 132 days, those of "Jyinunikong" were ranged from 91 to 144 days with an average 130 days and those of "Seoritaekong" were ranged from 99 to 150 days with an average 139 days. they were shortest in "Jyinunikong" and longest in "Seoritaekong". The distribution of maturity period was from 6th September to 5th November. The maturity period was as early as September and yields were more than 100g per plant, which were all three accessions(IT161905, IT162602, IT269617), "Seoritaekong". They would be useful as breeding materials of colored soybean with early maturity. The 100-seed weight is important characteristics that distinguish the usage of soybeans. "Seoritaekong" and "Seonbijabikong" have large seed characteristics for cooking with rice, "Jyinunikong" has small seed it for medicine. The average 100 seed weight was 35.0g of "Seonbijabikong", 30.8g of "Seoritaekong" and 13.4g of "Jyinunikong", respectively. As for seed coat lust, the ratio of dull was as high as 100% of "Seonbijabikong" and 91% of "Seoritaekong", that of shiny was as high as 77% of "Jyinunikong". Cotyledon color of "Seonbijabikong" were all yellow, that of "Seoritaekong" were 94% of green. The other name of "Seoritaekong" is "Sokcheong", which means that cotyledon color is green. Therefore if cotyledon color of Seoritaekong is not green, it might be misidentified. In the future, we will increase the utilization through evaluation of functional component such as isoflavones and anthocyanins of colored soybean landraces.
This study was performed in order to determine the relationship between anthocyanin generation and seed coat pigmentation in black soybean. Soybean genotypes were analyzed the individual anthocyanin contents by UPLC, which were sampled at 5-day intervals from the 35th day after flowering. Ilpumgeomjeongkong had begun to accumulate anthocyanin on the seed coat previous 35 days after flowering, and in case Heugcheongkong was 30 days. The seed coat coloration in Ilpumgeomjeongkong run on till the 45th day after flowering, and that of Heugcheongkong was between 55 and 60days after flowering. Cyanidin-3-Glucoside (C3G) was formed the earliest and accumulated the greatest among three anthocyanin pigments existed in black soybean. So we could be concluded that C3G affected on seed coat pigmentation greatly than other pigments. The anthocyanin contents at maturity in Ilpumgeomjeongkong was 4.4 times higher than at beginning stage of anthocyanin formation, while those of Heugcheongkong was 2.5 times.
This investigation was conducted to determine the effect of the optimum planting date and place for good seed production on growth variation, grain yields, different of variety, infection of seed by fungi, and seed germination and vigor after room storage. Early maturity Korean soybean variety, Keunolkong, and introduced vegetable soybean variety, Fukura-edamame, were planted at field of YAES. and high cool land of Sajapyong in Milyang(altitude, 850m) on May 15 (early), June 15 (mid.), and July 15 (late) in 1991. The emergence and vegetative period gradually increased in the early planting date. The grain yield, seed weight, pod number, healthy grain yield also increased when Keunolkong was planted on early date. The healthy seed rate, Keunolkong increased in the early planting date, whereas that of Fukura also increased in the late planting date. Infection ratio of grain to phomopsis seed decay (Phomopsis spp. ' Diaporthe phaseolorum) in Fukura steadily increased in the early planting date. Infection ratio of grain to purple seed stain (Cercospora kikuchii) generally increased in the mid and late planting date. The seed germination and seedling vigor after room storage from five to six months gradually increased in the late planting date. And seed germination of Fukura rapidly decreased in the early planting date. Therefore, the optimum planting date for good seed production in early maturity vegetable soybean was June 15 in terms of harvesting time avoid a high temprature and humidity.
Isoflavone contents in soybean seeds are affected by both genetic and environmental factors. Correlation analysis between these factors and isoflavone contents are considered as valuable inputs when breeding improved soybean cultivars. In this study, the seeds of 49 soybean accessions grown in Korea were grouped as black, yellow, green, yellowish-green, pale yellow, and green with a black spot based on their seed coat colors. The contents of 12 isoflavones were analyzed and the association between isoflavone content and seed coat color was determined. The accessions were also grouped as early, intermediate, and late-maturing based on their days to maturity. Out of the 12 isoflavones, 11 were found in 2 accessions, 9 in 18 accessions, 8 in 11 accessions, 7 in another 11 accessions, and 6 in 7 accessions. The total isoflavone content (TIC) in black, yellow, green, yellowish-green, pale yellow, and green with black spot soybeans was in the ranges 2.110 ~ 5.777, 2.487 ~ 4.733, 2.185 ~ 4.413, 2.681 ~ 4.065, 1.827 ~ 4.085, and 3.376 ~ 4.133 mg/g, respectively. The average TIC was highest in green with black spot soybeans (3.616 mg/g), and lowest in pale yellow soybeans (2.875 mg/g). Besides, the average TIC was lowest in early maturing accessions compared to late- and intermediate-maturing accessions. TIC was strongly correlated to malonylgenistin (r = 0.91) and malonyldaidzin (r = 0.78) contents, and poorly correlated to glycitein (r = 0.04) and malonylglycitin (r = 0.18) contents. Also, days to maturity showed strong correlation with malonylgenistin (r = 0.47) content and TIC (r = 0.38). The principal component analysis outlined accessions with high TIC and diverse isoflavones along the first and second components, respectively. The results of the present study depicted that green soybeans with a black spot could be sources of high TIC. Furthermore, late-maturing accessions with diverse isoflavones in their seeds could be useful in future agricultural systems in Korea.
Present studies were carried out to get a basic information for biological control of soybean rod borer, Grapholitha glycinivorella Matsumura, causing main injury in soybean cultivation in Korea. 1474 native strains were cultivated in field to evaluate the pod borer damage. Pubescence density and color, maturity group, seed coat color, aphid and general leaf damage and seed damage by pod borer were investigated, and determined among their relationships. As another basic study for ecological control of insect, 6 leading varieties were planted on different planting date with 3 levels of plant spacing, on which pod borer damage and some related agronomic characters were studied. The results obtained one summarized as follows: Average injury of soybean pod borer was $5.2\%$ ranging $0-38\%$ in 1474 strains planted on 20 May. Non-significant correlations were found between pod borer damage and pubescence density and color, while pod borer damage closely related with maturity groupand aphid damage at $5\%$ level ofttests. Most severe damage was found in green seed coast color and maturity group V. Late and sparse plantings tend to have more damages to the pod borer than those of early and dense plantings. Pod setting date and period of pod maturing seemed related with pod borer damage. Bongeui and Chungbuk-baik cultivars were resistance to soybean pod borer, while Clark and Kumkang-daerip were susceptible in field tests.
