  • Owing to the convergence of the communication network with the control system and public network, security threats, such as information leakage and falsification, have become possible through various routes. If we examine closely at the security type of the current control system, the operation of the security system focuses on the threats made from outside to inside, so the study on the detection system of the security threats conducted by insiders is inadequate. Thus, this study, based on "Spotting the Adversary with Windows Event Log Monitoring," published by the National Security Agency, found that event logs can be utilized for the detection and maneuver of threats conducted by insiders, by analyzing the validity of detecting insider threats to the control system with the list of important event logs.

  • Recently, internal information leaks is increasing rapidly by internal employees and authorized outsourcing personnel. In this paper, we propose a method to integrate internal control systems like system access control system and Digital Rights Managements and so on through expansion model of SIEM(Security Information Event Management system). this model performs a analysis step of security event link type and validation process. It develops unit scenarios to react illegal acts for personal information processing system and acts to bypass the internal security system through 5W1H view. It has a feature that derives systematic integration scenarios by integrating unit scenarios. we integrated internal control systems like access control system and Digital Rights Managements and so on through expansion model of Security Information Event Management system to defend leakage of internal information and customer information. We compared existing defense system with the case of the expansion model construction. It shows that expanding SIEM was more effectively.

  • Windows Event Log is a format that records system log in Windows operating system and methodically manages information about system operation. An event can be caused by system itself or by user's specific actions, and some event logs can be used for corporate security audits, malware detection and so on. In this paper, we choose actions related to corporate security audit and malware detection (External storage connection, Application install, Shared folder usage, Printer usage, Remote connection/disconnection, File/Registry manipulation, Process creation, DNS query, Windows service, PC startup/shutdown, Log on/off, Power saving mode, Network connection/disconnection, Event log deletion and System time change), which can be detected through event log analysis and classify event IDs that occur in each situation. Also, the existing event log tools only include functions related to the EVTX file parse and it is difficult to track user's behavior when used in a forensic investigation. So we implemented new analysis tool in this study which parses EVTX files and user behaviors.

  • With the convergence of communications network between control system and public network, such threats like information leakage/falsification could be fully shown in control system through diverse routes. Due to the recent diversification of security issues and violation cases of new attack techniques, the security system based on the information database that simply blocks and identifies, is not good enough to cope with the new types of threat. The current control system operates its security system focusing on the outside threats to the inside, and it is insufficient to detect the security threats by insiders with the authority of security access. Thus, this study conducted the importance analysis based on the main event log list of "Spotting the Adversary with Windows Event Log Monitoring" announced by NSA. In the results, the matter of importance of event log for the detection of insider threats to control system was understood, and the results of this study could be contributing to researches in this area.

  • The control system can have such threats as information leakage and falsification through various routes due to communications network fusion with public network. As the issues about security and the infringe cases by new attack methods are diversified recently, with the security system that makes information data database by simply blocking and checking it is difficult to cope with new types of threats. It is also difficult to respond security threats by insiders who have security access authority with the existing security equipment. To respond the threats by insiders, it is necessary to collect and analyze Event Log occurring in the internal system realtime. Therefore, this study could find out whether there is correlation of the elements among Event Logs through correlation analysis based on Event Logs that occur real time in the control system, and based on the analysis result, the study is expected to contribute to studies in this field.

  • This paper implements a priority algorithm for active response to security event risk, and implements an event scheduler that performs efficient event processing based on this. According to the standards that have global standards such as CVE and CVSS, standards for scoring when security events are executed are prepared and standardized so that priorities can be more objectively set. So, based on this, we build a security event database and use it to perform scheduling. In addition, by developing and applying the security event scheduling priority algorithm according to the situation of security events in Korea, it will contribute to securing the reliability of information protection and industrial development of domestic or ganizations and companies.

  • Although Firms have been increasing their information security significantly to handle increased security risks, the effects of information security were not well understood. This study aims to investigate the market value of information security by employing the event study methodology. Our research also explores how market responses vary depending on the type of information security announcements. We collected 177 firm-level information security announcements between 2001 and 2017 in South Korea. For all samples, our results indicate that the stock market positively reacts to information security announcements. We also conducted subsample analysis and found that while information security certification announcement has a positive impact on the stock market, information security activities (e.g. award, information security system) announcement had no impact on the stock market. Our study adopted a novel approach (i.e. event study) for investigating the effects of information security and found that information security investment positively affects firm value. Our results allow managers to measure the effects of information security investment and help them make right decisions on information security investment.

  • Purpose Targeting Korean companies listed on Korean securities markets (i.e., KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets), this study aims to shed lights the effects of personal information security breaches on stock prices of information security companies. Interestingly, this study is, to the best of our knowledge, the first to examine the information transfer effect on personal information security breaches of companies. Design / Methodology /Approach To examine the information transfer effect of personal information security breaches, our study employs the event study commonly used in financial studies. To this end, we investigate a variety of events of personal information security breaches of companies listed on the KOPSI stock market and the KOSDAQ market. We collect the total samples of one hundred and twelve with forty seven of events of personal information security breaches by thirty companies and sixty five of information security companies. Findings The principal findings from the empirical study are as follows. First, for companies of personal information security breaches, our event study presents the significantly negative AAR (averaged abnormal return) value on the event day at the 5 % level and the highly significant negative CAAR(cumulative averaged abnormal return) value on the event day and the day after the event day at the 1 % level. The results suggest that personal information breaches significantly contribute to an decrease in value of the information breached companies. The cross sectional regressions in this study estimate the significantly negative coefficient for the ME/BE variable, the proxy for a growth opportunity at the 5 % level. This suggests a reverse relation between the growth opportunity of companies and their value. As for the various samples of the information security companies categorized by physical security, network and system security, security application software, code authentication, system integration, we find the significantly positive AAR on the day after the event day at the 5% level, only for the network and system security-companies. This addresses that the information transfer effect followed by personal information breaches is uniquely observable for companies categorized into network and system companies. The regressions for the network and system companies estimate the significantly positive coefficient for the NS dummy variable (i.e., the dummy of the network and system security companies) at the standard level. This allows us to identify appropriate times needed to make the information transfer effect realized from personal information breached companies to information security companies.

  • In this paper, we want to solve the problems that users want to search the progress of attack, continuity of attack, association between attackers and victims, blocking priority and countermeasures by using visualization interface with multi-rotational axis and radial axis structure. It is possible to effectively monitor and track security events by arranging a time series event based on a multi-rotational axis structured by an event generation order, a subject of an event, an event type, and an emission axis, which is an objective time indicating progress of individual events. The proposed interface is a practical visualization interface that can apply attack blocking and defense measures by providing the progress and progress of the whole attack, the details and continuity of individual attacks, and the relationship between attacker and victim in one screen.

  • The Windows Event Log is a Log that defines the overall behavior of the system, and these files contain data that can detect various user behaviors and signs of anomalies. However, since the Event Log is generated for each action, it takes a considerable amount of time to analyze the log. Therefore, in this study, we designed and implemented an XML-based Event Log analysis tool based on the main Event Log list of "Spotting the Adversary with Windows Event Log Monitoring" presented at the NSA.
