This study was performed to propose measures to improve and secure safety in the scene activities of firefighters. First, the majority of firefighters thought that working environment and equipment in fire station were inadequate for perforeming work tasks safely. Second, influential factors threatening safe scene activities mainly arose externally such as insecure working conditions of firefighting or emergency scene. Third, improvement in working environments was pointed out as the most urgent issue to secure safety. Firefighters recognized the expansion of field workforce in system, personnel management and the foundation of hospitals for firefighters hospital in working environment, and the development and distribution of safe equipment and change and inspection of air respirator facepiece on regular basis in equipment as urgent issues to be improved.

Recently, bridge design and/or construction works on marine traffic route are undertaking in Korean waters. Naturally the ship-handling difficulty and hazardous to navigation should be increased when the bridge is constructed on the shipping route. Unfortunately, however, it is impossible or not desirable to secure wide enough bridge span width due to geographical condition or economic point of view. Therefore this study aims to propose the consideration factors during the bridge design process, and the traffic volume control, speed limit and other alternative measures to secure traffic safety using marine traffic flow simulation technique.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the causes of accidents related to the 3 phase 170 kV gas insulated switchgear of a power system collected from accident sites to secure data for the prevention of similar accidents and provide important points of view regarding diagnosis for the prevention of accidents involving gas insulated switchgears. The analysis results of the causes of accidents involving gas insulated switchgears showed deformation of the manipulation lever installed at the S-phase, disconnection of the insulation rod connection, melting of the upper conductor, a damaged tulip, damage to the lower spacer and the spacer at the breaker, etc. It is believed from this result that the potential for accidents has expanded due to accumulated energy as a result of repeated deterioration. The carbonization depth of a GIS was formed near the screw (T2, T3) used to secure the lower pole of the S-phase tulip. It is not known what has caused the screws to be extruded and melted. However, it is thought that an unbalanced electromagnetic force, micro-discharge, surface discharge, etc., have occurred at that point. In addition, even though 16 years have passed since its installation, there was no installation defect, act of arson, accidental fire, etc. General periodical inspection and diagnosis failed to find the factors causing the accidents. As a system contained in a closed metal container, it has a high risk factor. Therefore, it is necessary to design, install and operate a GIS in accordance with the standard operational procedure (SOP). In addition, it is necessary to apply conversion technology for periodical SF6 gas analysis and precision safety diagnosis. It is expected that tracking and managing these changes in characteristics by recording the results on the history card will provide a significant accident prevention effect.

Most automated vehicle evaluation scenarios are developed based on the typical driving situations that automated vehicles will face. However, various situations occur during actual driving, and sometimes complex judgments are required. This study is to define a situation that requires complex judgment for safer driving of an automated vehicle as a dilemma situation, and to suggest a driving strategy necessary to secure driving safety in each situation. To this end, we defined dilemma situations based on the automated vehicle ethics guidelines, the criteria for recognition of error rate in automobile accidents, and suggestions from the automated vehicle developers. In addition, in the defined dilemma situations, the factors affecting movement for establishing driving strategies were explored, and the priorities of factors affecting driving according to the Road Traffic Act and driving strategies were derived accordingly.

In urban areas, blast excavation adjacent to tunnels is carried out frequently. It is generally required to secure static and dynamic stability of nearby tunnel structures for any such activities. Although there is some national guidelines for static safety, there is little guides to risk zoning controling the dynamic behavior of the underground structures. In this study, impacts on the blast-induced vibration are investigated using numerical study. An attempt to define the restricted area of blast adjacent to subway tunnels was also made. Particular concerns were given to tunnel depth and ground types. By carrying out the parametric study on depth and ground patterns, the envelope of blast distance of which dynamic response on the lining is controlled under 1 cm/sec, is established. It is shown that the increase in depth has increased the required safety distance slightly until the distance of 3.5 times of the tunnel diameter. Despite small changes in safety distance, it can be generally said that the effects of depth and stiffness of the ground is not significant in controlling the particle velocity of the tunnel linings.
The exposed pipe requires higher durability because is directly contacted with the outside air unlike the buried pipe. For this purpose, clear detailed technical standards are essential in the design and construction of piping systems. However, the existing technical standards were not able to evaluate the durability considering the characteristics of piping, so many questions were raised in the field. Therefore, through the present study, the existing detailed technical standards are revised to propose measures to secure the durability of exposed piping.

In this paper, we analyzed causes of accidents that recently increased in the illegal and defective LED lamps. They were analyzed by the electrical characteristics calculation and reappearance experiments. The causes of the accidents were analyzed from the circuit affected by the variation of voltage, current and power by harmonics. We drew a conclusion for electrical safety in illegal or degraded LED lamps from the analysis result. The management factors for electrical safety in LED lamps were harmonics, reactive power and power factor. It is possible to secure the electrical safety through monitoring of power factor in failure products and available in smart meters or smart distribution boards.

If various unreasonable safety standards are preemptively and effectively readjusted, the risk of accidents can be reduced. In this paper, we proposed a machine reading comprehension-based safety standard Q&A system to secure supporting technology for effective search and analysis of safety standards for integrated and systematic management of safety standards. The proposed model finds documents related to safety standard questions in the various laws and regulations, and then divides these documents into provisions. Only those provisions that are likely to contain the answer to the question are selected, and then the BERT-based machine reading comprehension model is used to find answers to questions related to safety standards. When the proposed safety standard Q&A system is applied to KorQuAD dataset, the performance of EM 40.42% and F1 55.34% are shown.
Aviation safety is increasingly important to secure the safety of the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF). A critical activity for enhancing aviation safety is to analyze an accident throughly and to identify causes that can explain it reasonably. The results of such a systematic accident investigation can be effectively used for improving information displays, task procedures, and training systems as well as for reorganizing team structure and communication control system. However, the current practice of analyzing aviation accidents in ROKAF is too superficial and simple to diagnose them systematically. Additionally, the current practice does not give a full consideration to human factors that have been identified as main causes of most of the aviation accidents. With this issue in mind, this study aims to suggest a new approach to analyzing aviation accidents related to human factors. The proposed method is developed on the basis of several models and frameworks about system safety, human error, and human-system interaction. Its application to forty-two human factors-related accidents, which have occurred in ROKAF during the last ten years, showed that the proposed method could be a useful tool for analyzing aviation accidents caused by human factors.
As IoT technology develops along with the 4th industrial revolution, gas safety products to which IoT technology is applied are being developed. However, since the gas safety system was not allowed, system improvement and operation reliability test for IoT gas safety products are required. This thesis researches IoT fuse cock and smart multi-function meter among IoT gas safety products, and analyzes the empirical data of IoT fuse cock to secure operational reliability data, thereby becoming a leader in IoT gas safety products. It aims to develop gas barrier technology one step further through various test evaluations and methods in the future.
