  • This paper presents the thermal problems of steel-concrete composite structure and the basic references in placing concrete into the structure. Based on the analytical investigation, application of the composite structure has the effect of highly decreasing the temperature difference between the center section and the surface section of the structure, though its application has little influence on the decrement of the maximum temperature under the same using material and placing temperature. Meanwhile, its application causes the section decrement of a concrete structure, and in the section which the decrement ratio is relatively large, the restraint action by a old concrete structure takes place highly tensile stresses over a tensile strength. And, the stress is concentrated on sharp edges of the steel-concrete boundary. Both restraint action and stress concentration considerably decrease the reduction effect of the temperature difference. Therefore, the prediction of thermal response and the reasonable steps are required through the simulation considering the factors and the sections related to those problems.

  • The integral term of PID controller have the advantage of reduced steady state error and the disadvantage of accumulated errors. We proposed a method that maintains its advantage and improvs the disadvantage in transient response. The proposed PID control method with modified integral parameter accumulates errors in increment section and ignores errors in decrement section. Therefore, the proposed PID control method decreases overshoot, and makes settling time faster than conventional PID control method.

  • This paper presents intermediate results of an on-going research for identification of the modal and the stiffness parameters of a bridge based on the ambient vibration data caused by the traffic loadings. The main algorithms consist of the random decrement method incorporating band-pass filters for estimation of the free vibration signals the cross spectral density method for identification of the modal parameters and the neural networks technique for estimation of the element-level stiffness changes. An experimental study is carried out on a scaled bridge model with a composite section subjected to various moving vehicle loadings. Vertical accelerations are measured at several locations on the girder. The estimated frequencies and mode shapes are found to be well-compared with those obtained from the impact tests. The estimated stiffness changes using the neural networks are found to be very good for the case with the simulated data. However the accuracy is found to be not quite satisfactory for the case with the experimental data particularly for the small value of the stiffness changes.

  • A two phase compound jet, which mixes pulverized solid particles with the air in the test section, is experimentally analyzed in this study. Two phase flow is jetted 10 degree upward in the primary jet, while the secondary jet utilizes the air only. The height difference between the primary and secondary central axises is 32.5mm. The velocity vector field, concentration field, and turbulent properties of solid particles are measured by using 3-Dimensional Particles Dynamics Analyzer. When the jet angle of the secondary jet goes into effect, the solid particle recirculation zone becomes larger. Also, solid particle concentration becomes more dense due to a velocity decrement of particles.

  • Purpose: Endoscopic transnasal correction of the blowout fractures has many advantages over other techniques. But after removal of packing material, there were some patients with recurrence of preoperative symptoms. Authors tried to make a quantitative anterograde analysis of orbital volume change over whole perioperative period which might be related with recurrence of preoperative symptoms. Methods: 10 patients with pure medial wall fracture(Group I) and 10 patients with medial wall fracture combined with fracture of orbital floor(Group II) were selected to evaluate the final orbital volume change, who took 3 CT scans, pre-, postoperative and 4 months after packing removal. By multiplying cross - section area of orbit in coronal view with section thickness, orbital volume were calculated. Then, mean orbital volume increment after trauma, mean orbital volume decrement after endoscopic correction and volume increment after packing removal were found out. And we tried to find correlations between type of fracture, initial correction rate and final correction rate. Results: The mean orbital volume increment of the fractured orbits were 7.23% in group I and 13.69% in group II. After endoscopic surgery, mean orbital volume decrement were 11.0% in group I and 12.46% in group II. Mean volume increment after packing removal showed 3.10% in group I and 6.50% in group II. The initial correction rate(%) showed linear correlation with final correction rate(%) after packing removal. And there were negative linear correlation between increment percentage of orbital volume by fracture and final correction rate(%). Conclusion: Orbital volume was proved to be increasing after removal of packing or foley catheter and it was dependent upon type of fracture. Overcorrection should be done to improve the final result of orbital blowout fracture especially when there are severe fracture is present.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop composite structural system which is to have versatility in plan design and to improve economical efficieney, to maximise structural capacity than existing structural system. In this viewpoint, it was investigated to the properties of structural behaviors for i oint consisting of concrete filled steel square tube column and P.C reinforced concrete beam through a series of hysteretic behavior experiment. In the previous report, researched to the properties of joints with key parameters. such as Axial Force ratio and section types. From the based on previous results, this study investigated the properties of this joints with key parameters, such as strength of concrete, size of panel zone and Axial Force ratio. The obtained results are summarised as follows. (1) Investigating for the failure mode of the beam-to-column joint, the specimens of S,LL and LH series(except for L5H) presented flexural failure mode. (2) The initial stiffness of joint was increasd as the decrease of axial force ratio and increase of the concrete strength. (3) The rotation resisting capacity was effective as the increment of the concrete strength and decrement of the axial force ratio. (4) The emprical formula to predict the ultimate capacity of joint model to introduce decrease coefficient according to the axial force ratio to superimpose shearing strength of steel web(H section) and bending strength of reinforced concrete beam was expected.

  • The analysis of corrugated steel pipes is depending on a second dimension frame analysis or compressed ring model. This is the analysis not to consider the behavior of soil-structure interaction. The behavior of load resistance system is varied according to the depth of cover and the spacing of corrugated steel pipes structure. Therefore, the behavior characteristic of corrugated steel pipes was confirmed through finite element analysis to consider the activity of soil-structure interaction. If soil cover is filled up to the more of optimal depth, behavior of corrugated steel pipes are similar to those of ductile steel pipes according to the earth pressure distribution and effects of traffic loads are decreased. But, If soil cover is filled up to the less of optimal depth, corrugated steel pipes can't behave completely as ductile steel pipes because the passive earth pressure acting on side of corrugated steel pipes is decreased according to the decrement of vertical earth pressure, and the traffic loads influence on the section forces is increased, so that the traffic loads dominated the behavior of corrugated steel pipes.

  • In this paper, we propose a improved control performance for autonomous mobile robot using the embeded system. The proposed PID(PPID) control method removes steady state error, and has good performance in transient response. The integral term in the proposed method accumulates error in increment section, inverses errors in decrement section, and increases the effect of integral coefficient around target. Therefore, the PPID control method decreases the overshoot, and makes settling time faster than general PID(GPID) control method. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method(PPID), we simulated the position control of DC motor, and experimented the velocity control of autonomous mobile robot. The PPID control method demonstrated good control performance that decrease overshoot and settling time in simulation and experiments.

  • The response of file Navodon modestus (GUNTHER) to attraction lamps in line and an adaptation lamp was carried out in the experimental water tank (550L$\times$58W$\times$73H cm). The rate of attraction was investigated in accordance with the intervals of time lighted on and off (1, 5, 10 minute), the intensities of adaptation lamp (1, 10, 20 W) and the two conditions of light stimulus which were the movement of lighted zone (NORMAL) and decrement of lighted zone (NEGA). The results are as follows: 1. Under Normal condition, the variation coefficients which show variation of attraction rate according to the time intervals and the intensities of adaptation lamps were 16.78% (1 min.), 9.71% (5 min.), 8.96% (10 min.), 9.71% (1 W), 15.00% (10W) and 21.08% (20 W) respectively, and attraction rates of the last section was 80.0% (1 min.), 86.0% (5 min.), 85.0% (10 mim.), 86.0% (1 W), 78.7% (10W) and 72.7% (20 W) respectively. 2. Under Nega condition, the file fish was almost distributed all in the illuminated sections, and the majority of the distribution section was adjacent to the extinguished section regardless of the time intervals and the adaptation lamps. 3. Under Nega condition, the variations of attraction rate in the last section became L type, and the attraction rates, when the rest except for the last attraction lamp was extinguished, were 96.7% (1 min.), 100% (5 min.), 96.0% (10 mim.), 100% (1 W), 100% (10W) and 88.0% (20 W) respectively.
