  • Korea will have a super-aged society within only 30 years according to the United Nations' definition of an aging society and the statistics on Korea's Population projections (2016), indicates that Korea has the fastest ageing speed in the world. There is a lack of data on long-term time-series data on death as related to pension and welfare policies compared to the rapid rate of aging. This paper estimates life expectancy over 245 years (from 1955 to 2200) through past and future forecasts as well as compares the expected life expectancy of the synthetic cohort and the real cohort. In addition, an international comparisons were made to understand the level of aging in Korea. Estimates of the back-projection period were compared with previous studies and the LC model to improve accuracy and objectivity. In addition, the predictions after 2016 reflected the declined mortality rate effect of Korea using the LC-ER model. The results showed an increase in life expectancy of about 30 years over 60 years (1955-2015) with an expected life expectancy of the real cohort over the second century (1955-2155) higher than the synthetic cohort. The comparative advantage of life expectancy of real cohorts was confirmed to be a common trend among comparative countries. In addition, Japan and Korea have a higher life expectancy and starting from 85 to 90 years old, all comparative countries show that the growth rate for the life expectancy of synthetic and real cohorts is less than previous years.

  • The structure of a typical pattern recognition consists a pre-processing, a feature extraction(algorithm) and classification or recognition. In classification, when widely varying patterns exist in same category, we need the clustering which organize the similar patterns. Clustering algorithm is two approaches. Firs, statistical approaches which are k-means, ISODATA algorithm. Second, neural network approach which is T. Kohonen's LVQ(Learning Vector Quantization). Nikhil R. Palet al proposed the GLVQ(Generalized LVQ, 1993). This paper suggest the efficient feature extraction methods of handwritten numerals in GLVQ clustering network. We use the handwritten numeral data from 21's authors(ie, 200 patterns) and compare the proportion of misclassified patterns for each feature extraction methods. As results, when we use the projection combination method, the classification ratio is 98.5%.

  • This article is a study on modern wall painting of Korea. The system of wall paintings in Korea is studied in the first chapter. It contains the function, the painters'peculiar character, the psychological basis and the subjects of wall painting. The most popular subjects are the Lee dynasty's folk custom and visual symbols of this period. The second chapter sees the study of these subjects in Lacan's psychoanalytic view. The representation of Lee dynasts custom in this post modern society reveal that the Korean lives in the realm of the imaginary in visual level. That is the projection of their desire to be in the perfect community which is believed to be existed in Lee's dynasty. However the visual circumstance in Korea is the symbolic which is constructed of the Western symbols. This visual confliction reveals Korean Habitus and the lack of independent visual expression method. For conclusion, it is proposed that the relation of Korean Habitus and design must be studied to create proper visual circumstance.

  • Fish ages are critical information in fish stock assessments because they are required for age-structure models such as virtual population analysis and stochastic catch-at-age models, whose outputs include recruitment strengths, a spawning stock size (abundance or biomass), and the projection of a fish population size in future. However, most countries other than the developed countries have not identified ages of fish caught by fisheries or surveys in a consistent manner for a long time (e.g.,>20 years). Instead, data about fish body sizes (e.g., lengths) have been well available because of ease of measurement. To infer age compositions of fish in a target group using fish length data, we intended to improve the length frequency analysis (LFA), which Schnute and Fournier had introduced in 1980. Our study was different in two ways from the Schnute and Fournier's method. First we calculated not only point estimates of age compositions but also the uncertainty in those estimates. Second, we modified LFA based on the von Bertalanffy growth model (vB-based model) to allow both individual-to-individual and cohort-to-cohort variability in estimates of parameters in the vB-based model. For illustration, we used data about lengths of Korean mackerel Scomber japonicas caught by purse-seine fisheries from 2000-2016.

  • This study aims to develop techniques for generating Digital Elevation Model(DEM) from SPOT Computer Compatible Tape(CCT) data, so as to present an effective way of generation of DEM for large area. As the first phase of extracting ground heights from SPOT stereo digital data, the bundle adjustment technique was used to determine the satellite exterior orientation parameters. Because SPOT data has the characteristics of multiple perspective projection, exterior orientation Parameters were modelled as a function of scan lines. In the second phase, a normalized cross correlation matching technique was applied to search for the conjugate pixels ill stereo pairs. The preliminary study showed that the matching window size of 13$\times$13 was adequate. After image coordinates of the conjugate pixels were determined by the matching technique, the ground coordinates of the corresponding pixels were calculated by the space intersection method. Then DEM was generated by interpolations. In addtion an algorithm for the elimination of abnormal elevation was developed and applied. The algorithm was very effective to improve the accuracy of the generated DEM.

  • Purpose: This study evaluated the feasibility of a near-infrared spectroscopy technique for the rancidity prediction of soybean oil. Methods: A near-infrared spectroscopy technique was used to evaluate the rancidity of soybean oils which were artificially deteriorated. A soybean oil sample was collected, and the acid values were measured using titrimetric analysis. In addition, the transmission spectra of the samples were obtained for whole test periods. The prediction model for the acid value was constructed by using a partial least-squares regression (PLSR) technique and the appropriate spectrum preprocessing methods. Furthermore, optimal wavelength selection methods such as variable importance in projection (VIP) and bootstrap of beta coefficients were applied to select the most appropriate variables from the preprocessed spectra. Results: There were significantly different increases in the acid values from the sixth days onwards during the 14-day test period. In addition, it was observed that the NIR spectra that exhibited intense absorption at 1,195 nm and 1,410 nm could indicate the degradation of soybean oil. The PLSR model developed using the Savitzky-Golay $2^{nd}$ order derivative method for preprocessing exhibited the highest performance in predicting the acid value of soybean oil samples. onclusions: The study helped establish the feasibility of predicting the rancidity of the soybean oil (using its acid value) by means of a NIR spectroscopy together with optimal variable selection methods successfully. The experimental results suggested that the wavelengths of 1,150 nm and 1,450 nm, which were highly correlated with the largest absorption by the second and first overtone of the C-H, O-H stretch vibrational transition, were caused by the deterioration of soybean oil.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the firmness and the sweetness index (SI) of tomatoes with a hyperspectral imaging (HSI) technique within the wavelength range of 1000 - 1550 nm. The hyperspectral images of 95 tomatoes were acquired with a push-broom hyperspectral reflectance imaging system, from which the mean spectra of each tomato were extracted from the regions of interest. The reference firmness and sweetness index of the same sample was measured and calibrated with their corresponding spectral data by partial least squares (PLS) regression with different preprocessing methods. The calibration model developed by PLS regression based on the Savitzky-Golay second-derivative preprocessed spectra resulted in a better performance for both the firmness and the SI of the tomatoes compared to models developed by other preprocessing methods. The correlation coefficients ($R_{pred}$) were 0.82, and 0.74 with a standard error of prediction of 0.86 N, and 0.63, respectively. Then, the feature wavelengths were identified using a model-based variable selection method, i.e., variable importance in projection, from the PLS regression analyses. Finally, chemical images were derived by applying the respective regression coefficients on the spectral image in a pixel-wise manner. The resulting chemical images provided detailed information on the firmness and the SI of the tomatoes. The results show that the proposed HSI technique has potential for rapid and non-destructive evaluation of firmness and the sweetness index of tomatoes.

  • The Russia-Ukraine War was a "three-layer compounded war" between the US and Russia, Russia and Ukraine, and Ukrainian government forces and rebels. First, the war is a phenomenon that occurred when the western sphere of influence seeking to maintain and strengthen the liberal international order and the Sino-Russian sphere of influence seeking a new alternative order collided in Ukraine, a geopolitical fault zone. Second, this war is the result of a typical 'security dilemma' phenomenon caused by the 'chain reaction' game of NATO's continuous expansion and Russia's response. Third, the Russia-Ukraine war was caused by the Russian military projection to prevent the military restoration of Donbas region by Ukraine. Until now, the Western world, led by the US, showed unexpected solidarity after the war despite subtle differences in positions. However, the non-Western world, including China, is not participating in the condemnation and sanctions against Russia. This war will be an important turning point in the existence and change of the current international order that has been formed and is operating since the end of the Cold War. The direction of maintenance/restoration, revision/change, and end/transformation of the current international order is highly likely to be determined depending on the development pattern and method of ending the war.

  • In this paper, we propose an automatic lower extremity vessel extraction based on rigid registration and bone elimination techniques in CT and CT angiography images. First, automatic partitioning of the lower extremity based on the anatomy is proposed to consider the local movement of the bone. Second, rigid registration based on distance map is performed to estimate the movement of the bone between CT and CT angiography images. Third, bone elimination and vessel masking techniques are proposed to remove bones in CT angiography image and to prevent the vessel near to bone from eroding. Fourth, post-processing based on vessel tracking is proposed to reduce the effect of misalignment and noises like a cartilage. For the evaluation of our method, we performed the visual inspection, accuracy measures and processing time. For visual inspection, the results of applying general subtraction, registered subtraction and proposed method are compared using volume rendering and maximum intensity projection. For accuracy evaluation, intensity distributions of CT angiography image, subtraction based method and proposed method are analyzed. Experimental result shows that bones are accurately eliminated and vessels are robustly extracted without the loss of other structure. The total processing time of thirteen patient datasets was 40 seconds on average.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the educational effect of self-directed learning method using 3D printed anatomy on radiological science students. The subjects were 32 students (20 males and 12 females) in the second year of radiological science at university. They were divided two groups as a non-active student group and an active student group. A learning method was self-directed learning using 3D printed anatomical structures, and the effects of quantitative learning improvement were evaluated before and after the learning. The qualitative evaluation of the students was analyzed on the Likert's 5-point scale for the interest, satisfaction, and learning effects (memorization convenience of anatomy name, radiography Interpret ability, understanding on bones structure, and X-ray projection technique). As a result, the enhancement of learning improved 65.4% on average, and all students got scored high on all variables. Especially non-active student groups showed higher correlation coefficients in all variables except interest and radiography interpret than active student groups. These results might suggest that self-directed learning using 3D printed anatomical structures could have a positive educational effect on radiological science students.
