A Study of Users' Cognitive Characteristics Influencing upon the Usage of End-User Searching Systems (최종이용자탐색시스템의 이용과 이용자의 인지적 특성간의 관계 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to find personal characteristics that affect users' cognitive characteristics of system, and to verify correlations between this users' cognitive characteristics and selection of system usage in using end -user searching systems (EUSS), For corroborative analysis of this study, preliminary model was constructed referring to Davis' Technology Acceptance Model. The model consists of exogenous variables (personal characteristics) , parameter variables (perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use), and effect variables (selection of system usage), When exogenous variables affect parameter variables, exogenous variables are independent variables and parameter variables are dependent variables. In addition, in correlation of parameter variables, which have been affected by exogenous variables, with effect variables, parameter variables are independent variables and effect variables are dependent variables, As for the research methodology, this study regards the Academic Information System connected with the Internet as EUSS, So questionnaires have been sent to researchers in universities who were conducting direct searching for the system. 229 valid responses to questionnaires have been analyzed according to Pearson Correlation Analysis and Stepwise Selection of Multiple Regression in the statistical software packages, 'SPSS PC+'. The findings and conclusions made in this study are summarized as follows; 1. Among the personal characteristics (age, disciplinary, computer literacy level, perceived usefulness of use education and training, perceived satisfaction of end-user searching, perceived satisfaction of system characteristics), all characteristics but age affect perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Specifically, perceived satisfaction of end user searching and perceived satisfaction of system characteristics most affect perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use respectively. 2. Perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use have a direct effect on selection of system usage in using EUSS. 3, Perceived usefulness more affect selection of system usage than perceived ease of use in using EUSS.

Searching Behavior of OPAC Users in Children's Libraries (어린이도서관 온라인목록의 탐색행태에 관한 연구)

  • The primary questions addressed by this research are the followings: Have the OPAC interfaces of children's libraries been designed user-friendly; What difficulties have OPAC searchers experienced in using OPACs; How do they perceive the system after searching it; Through the answers of those questions the problems of OPACs for children as searching tools have been grasped and recommendations have been suggested in order to improve the OPAC interfaces. An experiment was conducted and 28 children of grades 4 to 6 performed 5 searching tasks. The searching behavior of OPAC searchers has been analyzed thoroughly. The data of their perceptions about the system was collected through a questionnaire after completing the tasks.

Cognitive radio system based on channel list for efficient channel searching (효과적 채널 검색을 위한 채널 목록 기반 무선 인지 시스템)

  • In this paper, we consider a cognitive radio system operating as secondary user. It uses an empty channel that is not currently used by primary users having the license to the channel. In the previous works, secondary user looks for an empty channel by choosing any channel in order or randomly and by sensing the channel to distinguish whether primary users are using. But if primary user is fixed type, we will find an empty channel faster than the mentioned channel selecting methods by using a method considering prior information about cases that primary user used the channel, since it is possible to analogize the channel access possibility of primary user according to regular time and position. Therefore, we propose a channel searching method based on the channel list for the purpose of reducing the channel searching time and improving throughput of secondary users. Firstly, we determine a weighting value of each channel based on the history of channel activities of primary users. This value is added to current channel state buffer and we search an empty channel from channel with smallest value to one with the biggest value. Finally, we compare the performances of the proposed method with those of the sequential channel searching and the random channel searching methods in terms of the average channel searching time and the average number of transmissions of secondary user.

  • Multimedia contents' searching methods in existing mobile computer environment tend to be brought with many over heads when attempting to search data in large bulks. The MINT system has been studied to resolve such problem. However, MINT system delivers many over heads by searching multimedia contents through applying B-Tree. The suggested method is said to be CST-MCR searching system based on CST-Tree. The specific characteristic of this method is improved MINT system by applying CST-Tree's index. The result of capacity evaluation came out with improved capacity of 4.27% from MINT system and CST-MCR methods in average. Conclusively, it has been proven that the suggested method is superior.

  • The Web is evolving quantitatively into an explosive development. However, users usually have heavy burden of searching information because of the absence of contextual meaning on the Web. Due to an enormous amount of information, users have to endure for finding strong cohesive keywords by themselves and read each of the documents with enduring effort. This paper proposes an efficient method of searching more relative documents than current KEM-based searching systems on the Web by using contextual meaning. We designed a domain ontology on computer hardware, and a searching system which was searching those e-Learning objects. Owing to the Ontology-applied search system, information such as educational materials and related multimedia can be easily provided to the users. Further, learners could be informed of relationship of knowledge, e.g., class hierarchy, properties and values, and so on. The request results are semantically related to users' needs, and thus the system provides a learner-centered searching.

  • Many information storage systems, such as database system, were needed to integrate much informations into one system and to provide mare voluminous lump of informations. But as the size of information system becomes larger, the responded result size of existing keyword based searching system might be too large and couldn't do the exact search which the user intends to. In this study, we proposed a paper searching method which uses RDF semantic. For this, we analyzed the structural forms of the tit1e of research papers and reconstructed them into RDF/XML. When we use these RDF descriptions of the titles to search papers, we could get more precise and accurate results than keyword based searching method.

A Novel Video Stitching Method for Multi-Camera Surveillance Systems

  • This paper proposes a novel video stitching method that improves real-time performance and visual quality of a multi-camera video surveillance system. A two-stage seam searching algorithm based on enhanced dynamic programming is proposed. It can obtain satisfactory result and achieve better real-time performance than traditional seam-searching methods. The experiments show that the computing time is reduced by 66.4% using the proposed algorithm compared with enhanced dynamic programming, while the seam-searching accuracy is maintained. A real-time local update scheme reduces the deformation effect caused by moving objects passing through the seam, and a seam-based local color transfer model is constructed and applied to achieve smooth transition in the overlapped area, and overcome the traditional pixel blending methods. The effectiveness of the proposed method is proved in the experiements.

  • RAM(Reliability, Availability and Maintainability) is one of the important indicators to show the performance of weapon systems. For analyzing RAM characteristics, RAM simulation is useful and powerful as mathematical techniques. However, it is necessary to build the simulation model to express about the operation environment of weapon systems, and obtain detail input data for reliability and maintainability about the system to get accurate results by RAM simulation. In this paper, we propose a procedure to analyze RAM of the searching system consisting in weapon systems by RAM simulation and we estimate searching system availability by a commercial simulation program, AvSim.

  • In this paper, we described web content searching system focused on the natural monuments, the endangered and reserved wild animals, the rare wild animals relevant to CITES & IUCN red data book, and the Korean endemic species. As a result of this research, we developed system for inserting and modifying of contents and efficient web searching system on the multimedia contents.

  • By the 1990s, Database Online Searching and CD-ROM Searching have been used universally in libraries. Due to their ease of use and facilitation, it is believed that such new media searching will produce more benefits than the usual printed materials. Furthermore, from the library management's point view, the new media searching's ability to minimize holding space will be another example of the advantage. The new media searching will have ever the printed materials. However, since it Is necessary to have an objective appraisal of the cost effectiveness in the implementation and the design of the new media system, it will be compared the new media searching with the conventional searching by using printed materials at the KIEP Library and Data Bank.
