This paper is about design and implementation of 'SeaMap' importer module which is for map-based application using 'SeaMap' data. 'SeaMap' data importer is a module that reads 'SeaMap' data in consistent form and offers using easily change the format and the internal data structure in the application. Design of data importer module is based on analyzing characteristic of 'SeaMap'. The comparative analysis between the data type of 'SeaMap' and standard S-57 Electronic Navigation Chart (ENC) of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), based on this, to be applicable of S-52 standards 'SeaMap' data is defined as a structure of data. The importer module is designed and converted to allow to use distribution type of 'SeaMap' data sets in map application, parsing 'SeaMap' data around the object defining transformation data structure. In addition, we implemented a 'SeaMap' data viewer in order to test our 'SeaMap' data importer module.
To understand general status of the national wind environment and to distinguish potential areas to be developed as a largescale wind farm, a synoptic wind map of the Korean Peninsula is established by processing remote sensing data of the satellite, NASA QuikSCAT which Is deployed for the SeaWinds Project since 1999. According to the validation results obtained by comparing with the measurement data of marine buoys of KMA(Korea Meteorological Administration), the cross-correlation factor Is greatly Improved up to 0.87 by blending the sea-surface dat3 of QuikSCAT with NCEP/NCAR CDAS data. It is found from the established synoptic wind map that the wind speed in winter is prominent temporally and the South Sea shows high energy density up to the wind class 6 spatially. The reason is deduced that the northwest winds through the yellow Sea and the northeast winds through the East Sea derived by the low-pressure developed in Japan are accelerated passing through the Korea Channel and formed high wind energy region in the South Sea; the same trends are confirmed by the statistical analysis of meteorological observation data of KMA.

In order to understand regional wind characteristics and to estimate offshore wind resources, a wind map of the Korean Peninsula was established using remote-sensing data from the satellite, U.S. NASA Quik SCAT which has been deployed for the Sea Winds Project since 1999. According to the linear regression result between the wind map data and in-situ marine-buoy data, the correlation factor was greatly improved up to 0.87 by blending the remote-sensing data of Quik SCAT with U.S. NCEP/NCAR CDAS reanalysis data to eliminate precipitation interference and to increase temporal resolution. It is found from the established wind map that the wind speed in winter is prominent temporally and the South Sea shows spatially high energy density over the wind class 6. The reason is deduced that the north-west winds through the Yellow Sea and the north-east winds through the East Sea derived by the low pressure developed in Japan are accelerated passing through the Korea Channel and formed high wind energy region in the South Sea; the same trends are confirmed from the statistical analysis of the meteorological observation data of KMA.

Recently human beings are enforcing marine investigations to extend their living environment from land to the sea. Therefore, this study grasped objects in the bottom of the sea and its topographical undulation and acquired topographic map with a sound detector. In result, This study acquired their images with a sound detector and can draw up a Drawing of Sea Mapping and a three-dimensional modeling map.
We extracted a surface displacement map of Canisteo Peninsula and the surrounding area in West Antarctica by applying 4-pass DInSAR technique to two ERS-1/2 tandem pairs and analyzed the surface displacement of glaciers and sea ice. In the displacement map, glaciers showed fast motion pushing the adjoining land-fast sea ice which has the displacement in the same direction as the glacier. Cosgrove ice shelf showed large displacement pushing the adjoining land-fast sea ice as well. Some sea ice indicated the displacement that is opposite to the land-fast sea ice. This was because the type of the sea ice is drift ice that is affected by ocean current. Therefore, we could confirmed the boundary between land-fast sea ice and drift ice. It was difficult to distinguish ice shelf from ice sheet because they showed similarities both in brightness of the SAR images and in fringe rates of the interferograms. However, a boundary between fast-moving ice shelf and stable ice sheet was easily confirmed in the displacement map after the phase unwrapping process.
East China Sea (ECS) is known to be supplied with large amounts of sediments form Huanghe, Changjiang and various rivers in Korea. Many studies have been conducted to identify the effects of rivers and deposition process of ECS, but no consensus has been reached. In this study, clay minerals, rare earth elements (REEs) and grain size were analyzed to study the provenance and sedimentation environment of core 99MAP-P63 in ECS. Clay mineral contents of 99MAP-P63 are abundant in order of illite, chlorite, kaolinite, and smectite. The provenance of 99MAP-P63 sediments using clay minerals is interpreted as the Changjiang regardless of depth. As a result of REEs analysis, 99MAP-P63 sediments are very similar to Chinese rivers sediments. Therefore, the provenance of 99MAP-P63 is Changjiang, and the influence of Korean river seems to be insignificant. 99MAP-P63 sediments are generally classified as sandy silt, but the top of the core is divided into sand with a sand contents of 85 %. Compared with surrounding cores, sandy silt sediments arecorresponded to the low stand stage when sea-level was low, and the sediments were thought to have been supplied directly through the paleo-Changjiang. Sandy sediments in uppermost of core are corresponded to transgressive stage. Although distance from estuary was increased due to sea-level rise, it was possible to supply coarse sediments due to high bottom stress, and the paleo-Changjiang sediments deposited in study area were re-deposited.
The first Marine Observation Satellite(MOS) was launched by National Space Development Agency of Japan on February 19, 1987, and it is equipped with three sensons covering visible, infrared, and microwave region. One of them is Visible and Thermal Infrared Radiometer(VTIR) whose main objective is to detect the Sea Surface Temperature(SST). The objective of this study was to process the MOS data using Cray-2 supercomputer, and to assess the SST in the Yellow Sea. In order to implement this objective, the linear regression model between the ground truth data and the corresponding digital number of VTIR in MOS was used to establish the relationship. After testing the significance of the regression model, the SST map of the whole Yellow Sea was derived based on the model. The digital SST map representing the study area showed certain pattern about the SST of Yellow Sea in March and April. In conclusion, the VTIR data in MOS is also useful in investigating SST which provides the information about the Yellow Sea water current in the spring.

In this paper, a new method for detecting various objects that can be risks to safety navigation in sea environment is proposed. By analysing Infrared(IR) images obtained from various sea environments, we could find out that object regions include both horizontal and vertical direction edges while background regions of sea surface mainly include vertical direction edges. Therefore, we present an approach to detecting object regions considering horizontal and vertical edges. To this end, in the first step, image enhancement is performed by suppressing noises such as sea glint and complex clutters using a statistical filter. In the second step, a horizontal edge map and a vertical edge map are generated by 1-D Discrete Cosine Transform technique. Then, a combined map integrating the horizontal and the vertical edge maps is generated. In the third step, candidate object regions are detected by a adaptive thresholding method. Finally, exact object regions are extracted by eliminating background and clutter regions based on morphological operation.
This paper introduces the optimum macro-siting of a potential site for an offshore wind farm around Jeju Island using the RDAPS sea wind model. The statistical model was developed by analyzing the sea wind data from RDAPS model, and the meso-scale digital wind map was prepared. To develop the high resolution spatial calibration model, Artificial Neural Network(ANN) models were used to construct the wind and bathymetric maps. Accuracy and consistency of wind/bathymetric spatial calibration models were obtained using analysis of variance. The optimization problem was defined to maximize the energy density satisfying the criteria of maximum water depth and maximum distance from the coastline. The candidate site was selected through Genetic Algorithm(GA). From the results, it is possible to predict roughly a candidate site location for the installation of the offshore wind jam, and to evaluate the wind resources of the proposed site.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm to detect scale invariant object from IR image obtained in the sea environment. We create horizontal edge (HL), vertical edge (LH), diagonal edge (HH) of images through 2-D discrete Haar wavelet transform (DHWT) technique after noise reduction using morphology operations. Considering the sea environment, Gaussian blurring to the horizontal and vertical edge images at each level of wavelet is performed and then saliency map is generated by multiplying the blurred horizontal and vertical edges and combining into one image. Then we extract object candidate region by performing a binarization to saliency map. A small area in the object candidate region are removed to produce final result. Experiment results show the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.
