대중매체의 과학기사에 대한 대중들의 인식과 고빈도로 사용되는 과학용어에 대한 이해도 조사 (Investigations on Public Perception of Science Articles in the Mass Media and Understanding of Scientific Terms Used in High Frequency in Science Articles)

  • 우리 사회에서 전통적 대중매체가 학교 교육 밖의 대중들에게 과학적 정보를 제공하는 수단으로서의 기능을 충분히 수행하고 있는지 알아보기 위하여 대중매체 과학기사에 대한 대중의 인식과 과학기사에 고빈도로 사용되고 있는 과학용어들에 대한 대중의 이해도를 조사해 보았다. 과학기사에 대한 대중의 인식을 알아보기 위하여 과학기사의 유용성, 중요성, 접근 빈도, 이해도를 묻는 설문 도구를 제작하여 기차역, 지하철역 등 유동인구가 많은 지역에서 설문조사를 실시하였고, 총 425명의 설문 응답을 분석에 사용하였다. 과학기사에 사용된 고빈도 과학용어를 추출하기 위하여 전통적 대중매체 가운데 텔레비전 뉴스와 신문을 각각 두 곳씩 지정하고 2001년부터 2017년까지 17년간 보도된 과학관련 기사의 텍스트를 수집하여 사용된 과학용어의 빈도를 조사하였다. 그리고, 빈도수를 기준으로 상위 100개의 과학 용어에 대하여 자기보고식의 이해도 검사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과 우리 사회의 대중들은 과학기사의 중요성과 유용성에 대해서는 비교적 높이 평가하고 있으나 기사를 읽고 이해하는 데에는 다소 어려움이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 과학기사에 고빈도로 사용되고 있는 과학용어들에 대해 대학원 이상의 고학력, 자연계열 전공, 남성이 상대적으로 이해도가 높았다. 또한 성별, 연령, 학력, 전공계열에 따라 이해도가 높은 과학용어들이 특징적으로 나타났다.

과학관련 신문기사 분석을 통한 과학적 소양인의 과학적 소양 발현 메커니즘 (Examination of the Development Mechanism of Scientific Literate Person through Analysis of Science-Related Newspaper Articles)

  • 이 연구는 과학적 소양인 양성의 체계적 전략 마련을 위해 과학적 소양이 어떻게 발현되는가를 확인하고 앞으로의 과학적 소양인 양성 교육 프로그램 구성에 필요한 기반을 마련하는 것이 목적이다. 이를 위해 과학교육 전문가 워크숍에서 신문기사를 분석하고 과학적 소양인의 참모습을 논의하여 과학적 소양 발현 메커니즘을 도출하였다. 도출된 메커니즘은 이해, 공감, 실행, 교감 순으로 위계적으로 나타났다. 제시된 각 단계와 단계 이행의 매개를 활용하여 교육 프로그램을 구성하고 이를 학교 현장에 적용한다면 과학교육을 통해 실제적인 과학적 소양인을 양성할 수 있을 것이다.

Fine-tuning BERT Models for Keyphrase Extraction in Scientific Articles

  • Despite extensive research, performance enhancement of keyphrase (KP) extraction remains a challenging problem in modern informatics. Recently, deep learning-based supervised approaches have exhibited state-of-the-art accuracies with respect to this problem, and several of the previously proposed methods utilize Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT)-based language models. However, few studies have investigated the effective application of BERT-based fine-tuning techniques to the problem of KP extraction. In this paper, we consider the aforementioned problem in the context of scientific articles by investigating the fine-tuning characteristics of two distinct BERT models - BERT (i.e., base BERT model by Google) and SciBERT (i.e., a BERT model trained on scientific text). Three different datasets (WWW, KDD, and Inspec) comprising data obtained from the computer science domain are used to compare the results obtained by fine-tuning BERT and SciBERT in terms of KP extraction.

과학적 소양 관련 논문에서 서술자의 종류와 빈도 특성 연구 (A Study of the Kinds and Frequency Characteristics of Descriptors in the Articles Related to Scientific Literacy)

  • This study analyzed the kinds and frequencies of descriptors in 154 articles in ERIC data base on the 4th day of January in 2010. The titles of the articles includes the words, 'scientific literacy'. As each descriptor is constituted of two words and over, in this study the first word in the descriptor was defined as 'restrictive word' and the rest word(s) as 'target word(s)'. The results are as follows. First, the descriptors which show high frequencies of target words are the traditionally important themes of scientific literacy education. Target words which show relatively high frequency are 'education', 'literacy', 'instruction' and 'countries'. Low frequency word is 'curriculum', which has various restrictive words and represents wide differentiation. Second, among the descriptors which show low frequencies of target words, relatively high frequency descriptors are '(and)society', 'change', 'secondary education', 'concepts', and 'biology', which have been given more attention in scientific literacy research than the rest descriptors. Third, the number of the descriptors that shows largely distributed pattern A, which happens over 15 years continuously, is over the half of all analyzed descriptors, which shows that they have been the major objectives in researches about scientific literacy. Most descriptors of pattern A shows normal distribution of frequency or the trends of increasing frequency as the time is nearer. Fourth, The descriptors are divided into four groups according to the time span. Each research trends are as follows. In later 80s, the research which emphasizes the importance of the sociality and technology in all level school science curriculum. In later 90s the research for educational change of inquiry-centered science curriculum which considers technological literacy in social contexts. In earlier 2000s the research that scientists and science teachers develop science curricula mostly related to scientific principles and thinking in chemistry and biology especially. In later 2000s case studies which relates teaching methods and science process activities to students' attitudes, scientific concepts and curricula.

과학적 소양의 정의 분류의 특성 및 경향 (Characteristics and Trends in the Classifications of Scientific Literacy Definitions)

  • 본 연구는 1960년대 이후 과학적 소양을 정의하고 분류를 시도했던 연구자들의 분류 결과를 3가지 분류 기준에 의하여 재분류하고, 과학적 소양의 정의 분류의 경향을 파악하는데 목적이 있다. 과학적 소양이 과학교육의 주요 목표를 대변하는 개념이므로 그 정의에 따른 분류는 과학교육의 목적에 대한 동향을 검토할 수 있는 주요자료가 될 수 있다. 분류 기준은 1) "literate"의 의미로서 '학습됨', '능력 있음', '사회에서 최소 기능을 할 수 있음', 2) 과학적 소양을 표현하는 방식으로서 용어와 서술, 3) 과학적 소양의 내부 구조로서 '단일 구조', '직렬식 위계구조', '병렬식 수평구조'이다. 분류 결과와 해석은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 과학적 소양의 구조로서 위계 구조는 90년대 후반부터 표현방식으로서 용어를 사용하는 정의와 함께 나타나고 있으며, 학습과 능력사이에서만 위계를 인정하고 사회적 기능으로서의 과학적 소양의 의미는 수용하지 않고 있다. 수평구조는 과학적 소양의 하위 요소 간의 위계 구조를 보이지 않는 대신 사회적 기능으로서 과학적 소양의 의미를 전반적으로 수용하고 있다. 또, 단일 구조는 대부분 과학적 소양을 새로운 시각에서 제안하는 연구에서 나타나고 있으며, 소양의 의미도 최근으로 오면서 학습에서 능력을 거쳐 사회적 기능을 강조하는 특성이 있다. 둘째, 근래로 오면서 과학적 소양을 용어 형식으로 정의하려는 연구가 증가하고, 이들 사이에도 위계를 설정하는 분류가 주도하고 있다. 또한 소양의 세 가지 의미인 학습, 능력, 사회적 기능을 전반적으로 수용하는 분류가 빈번해졌으나, 이들 간에는 위계 구조보다는 오히려 수평 구조를 설정하는 경향이 있다. 위와 같은 분석 결과를 토대로 살펴 볼 때, 과학 교육의 목표로서 과학적 소양의 의미는 학습이나 과제 해결 능력뿐만 아니라, 근래에는 사회적 맥락에서 어떤 역할을 하는 개인을 육성하려는 목표로서 인정되고 있다는 점이다. 또한 주목할 것은 과학적 소양의 이러한 사회적 기능 측면은 위계적이 아닌 독립적인 목표로서의 특성을 견지하고 있다는 점이다. 이러한 변화에 능동적으로 대처하기 위해서는 과학교육이 교과 내 개념학습에서 벗어나 다양한 맥락에서의 적용과 사회적 역할을 중시하는 목표로 전환할 준비를 해야 할 것으로 보인다.

신문기사를 활용한 과학글쓰기 수업 전략의 개발과 적용 (The Development and Application of Instructional Strategy for Science Writing using Newspaper Articles)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop instructional strategy for newspaper-based science writing and to examine the effect of its application. The target unit was 'change of weather' and 'a variety of gas' in the sixth grade of elementary school, and the teaching strategy was composed of 3 stages-writing including realistic, interpretative and comprehensive writing. The result of applying this strategy into actual classrooms was as follows. First, it was proven that the science writing strategy using newspaper articles actually helped improving science process skills of learners, in particular, integrated process skills. Second, this strategy for science writing changed the scientific attitude of learners positively. While they read the newspaper articles, their thinking became more elaborate and systemized, which seemed to serve to foster their openness, criticism, and perseverance. Third, the science writing strategy did not contribute to the improvement of learners' science study achievement. To improve the understanding of scientific concepts and principles of learners, it is needed that teaching program combines with argument-based activity organically. The above-mentioned findings show that this instructional strategy using newspaper articles can be applicable as one of effective methods in science writing.

최근 보건교육건강증진학회지 게재논문 동향 (2009-2011년) (Trends in Health Education and Promotion Research Published in the Korean Journal of Health Education and Promotion from 2009 to 2011)

  • Objectives: By analysing the recent trends of published papers in the Korean Journal of Health Education and Promotion, this study aims to identify and discuss some challenging issues, and to provide recommendations for quality improvement of the research papers. Methods: One hundred and sixty five papers published between 2009 and 2011 were examined and categorized according to selected standards. Results are displayed in frequencies and percentages. Results: The volume of articles published has increased by two-folds in three decades since the publication of the first issue. More than 90% of the papers were original articles. Cross-sectional research design was most frequently applied, while only 11.5 % of the articles were intervention studies. For cross-sectional research articles, limitation in generalizability of the study findings was mentioned as one of the major issues, in relation with the frequent use of convenient sampling methods and lack of theoretical evidence in inclusion of variables. Consideration of internal and external validity of the study, utilization of scientific evaluation design and mixed evaluation methods were recommended for intervention research to improve the quality of the research results. Conclusion: To serve as a key resource for evidence-based practices in health promotion, more strict scientific research criteria should be applied to the articles published in the Korean Journal of Health Education and Promotion.

Blockchain Technology for Sustainable Supply Chains: A Bibliometric Study

  • Purpose: The study is developed in order to describe the trends of scientific production of blockchain technologies for sustainability within the supply chains. Research design, data and methodology: This study is developed from the documentary field from the application of bibliometric techniques to analyze the trends of scientific production indexed in the Scopus database, for which processing is carried out in the R and VOS Viewer software. Results: The results show a total of 461 documents, of which 58% of the articles, 17% are conference articles and the remaining 25% are made up of other formats. Conclusions: 78% of the articles are concentrated in the years 2020, 2021 and 2022. India, United Kingdom, China, United States and Italy are the countries where 70% of all the publications were published. 23% of the articles have been published in four journals: Sustainability (Switzerland), Journal of Cleaner Production, Computers and Industrial Engineering and Business Strategy and the Environment. Sarkis, J. is the author with the most published articles with fifteen publications and, finally, 13% of the total publications were concentrated in: Uttaranchal University, Yasar University, Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Centro Di Ricerca Ingegneria e Trasformazioni Agroalimentari and University of Hong Kong.

Normalization and Valuation of Research Evaluation Indicators in Different Scientific Fields

  • Given the difference in research performance in various scientific fields, this study aims to weight and valuate current indicators used for evaluation of scientific productions (publications), in order to adjust these indicators in comparison to each other and make possible a more precise evaluation of scientific productions. This is a scientometrics study using documentary, evaluative, and survey techniques. The statistical population consisted of 106 top Iranian researchers, scientists, and scientific and research managers. Then their research résumé information was gathered and analyzed based on research questions. In order to compare values, the data gathered from research production performance of the population was weighted using Shannon entropy method. Also, the weights of each scientific production importance according to expert opinions (extracted from other works) was analyzed and after adjustment the final weight of each scientific production was determined. A pairwise matrix was used in order to determine the ratios. According to the results, in the area of engineering sciences, patents (0.142) in the area of science, international articles (0.074) in the area of humanities and social sciences, books (0.174), and in the area of medical sciences, international articles (0.111) had the highest weight compared to other information formats. By dividing the weights for each type of publication, the value of each scientific production compared to other scientific productions in the same field and productions of other fields was calculated. Validation of the results in the studied population resulted in very high credibility for all investigated indicators in all four fields. By using these values and normalized ratios of publication indicators it is possible to achieve precise and adjusted results, making it possible to feasibly use these results in realistic policy making.
