We studied aspects of secondary school science teachers in the Chonbuk province concerning their science-related attitudes using the several measuring tools. We applied the multiple comparison to twelve factors at the science teachers 'backgrounds and analyzed the discrepancy in group levels. Science teachers feel half-hearted for the attitudes related to science teachers show a high correlation between the attitudes toward science and the scientific attitudes. We examined the tendency to the science-related attitudes of science teachers having various backgrounds within 5 percent differences of P-value. The contented teachers for their occupations marked higher than the other teachers in the tendency to the science-related attitudes, and the attitude-score of the science teachers graduated from regular colleges also marked higher than the teachers from the training institutes or the different majors. We have investigated the teachers just in Chonbuk province, but we should recognize that the scores in both the perception and the teachers are not improved comparing with the before-studies of Lee(1985), Park(1993), etc. As a result, the development of measuring tools which teachers can examine themselves as their features is needed and the educational systems to specialize the science education should be improved through the various programs for teachers' training courses.

The purpose of this research is to suggest the way to promote housewives' understanding of science and technology, based on the survey results of the attitude toward science and technology, the scientific attitude, and the interest in science and technology of housewives in Korea. The questionnaire was developed by researchers and administered to housewives who live in Seoul to get basic information. Housewives showed slightly positive attitudes toward science and technology, and similarly positive scientific attitudes. These scores were increased as monthly income and education level were raised. Housewives' interest of the science-technology related topics (foods, health, education, leisure, social issues, cooking, housing, everyday activity) was relatively high, and the interest of foods, health, education, and leisure was significantly correlated with the scores of housewives' attitude towards science and technology and their scientific attitudes. Housewives are shown to be curious to know these topics when they were asked by their children or do not know the terms appeared in media, or purchase home appliances and food. And they get the answers in a passive way by asking their family members or by watching TV or newspapers. They preferred TV program for enhancing their understanding of science. But such program could be proper to present science knowledge but not fulfill the role to promote scientific literacy. Specially designed programs through science centers or science museums would be suggested for their lifelong education.

The relationships among students' perceptions of computerized science learning environments, computer-related attitudes. and computer experiences were investigated with a sample of 164 9thgraders (80 boys and 84 girls) from two middle schools. The Computerized Science Learning Environment Inventory (CSLEI) and the Computer-Related Attitudes Scale (CRAS) were administered, and students' computer experiences were examined. Students' perceptions of preferred learning environments were also studied with the preferred form of the CSLEI, and compared with those of actual learning environments. Gender differences in the perceptions of computerized science learning environments, computer-related attitudes, and computer experiences were also studied. Students' perceptions of preferred learning environments were significantly better than those of actual learning environments in all subscales of the CSLEI except gender equity. There was no gender difference in the perceptions of computerized science learning environments. However, boys were found to have more positive computer-related attitudes and more computer experiences than girls. Students' perceptions of computerized science learning environments were significantly correlated with computer-related attitudes in resource adequacy subscale, but not with computer experiences. Significant relationships between computer-related attitudes and computer experiences were also found.

The purpose of this study was to investigate how extracurricular science club activities affect sciencerelated attitudes of female elementary school students. The experimental group was organised with thirty female elementary school students selected from a school in a small city and two schools in a town at Jeju special selfgoverning province. The students were encouraged to participate in a variety of scientific experiences and inquiry activities for ten months. The control group consisted of another thirty girl students chosen from the same schools. The pre-test and post-test on science-related attitudes were administered to both the experimental and control groups. The result of this study shows that meaningful changes have been observed in science-related attitudes of the experimental group, whereas the control group reveals no meaningful changes. Science-related attitudes have been analyzed in three categories such as cognition, interests, scientific attitude. The experimental group shows meaningful changes in all of the three categories, while the control group shows no change in any category. When the female students from small city and those from the town were separated, the result shows that the latter shows more positive changes in science-related attitudes through science club activities than the former.

Background: A considerable amount of research has shown that knowledge and appropriate awareness are essential for encouraging positive behaviors and promoting health. In Korea, the roles that behavioral changes play in the prevention of cancer have been an important issue since the introduction of the 10 codes for cancer prevention in 2006. Thus, the present study investigated the associations of tobacco-related knowledge with awareness and attitudes towards positive smoking-cessation behaviors. Methods: The present study analyzed data from the 2010 national questionnaire survey (n = 1,006). This study evaluated sociodemographic characteristics, smoking status, self-rated health status, health-related interests, and the accuracy of 12 tobacco-related statements to determine knowledge level and to investigate its impact on awareness and behaviors related to smoking. These parameters were examined and staged using the Precaution Adoption Process Model. Results: A higher level of tobacco-related knowledge was significantly associated with a positive attitude towards smoking cessation (5-8 correct answers: odds ratio [OR], 2.53; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.57-4.08; ${\geq}9$ correct answers: OR, 3.90; 95% CI, 2.22-6.82; reference: ${\leq}4$ correct answers). Interestingly, among current smokers, only those who correctly responded to ${\geq}9$ of 12 tobacco-related statements were significantly associated with a positive attitude towards smoking cessation. Conclusion: This study found that having a higher level of tobacco-related knowledge had a significant impact on positive attitudes towards smoking cessation. This suggests that there is a need to disseminate appropriate knowledge to the general population to encourage positive attitudes and promote healthful behaviors in terms of smoking.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of constructivist instruction on science inquiry skills and science-related attitudes, and to investigate the students' responses to the lesson using constructivist instruction. In this study, 108 students of sixth graders from four classes were intentionally selected from two elementary schools located in Gyungsan city, Kyungsangbukdo. Two classes of 54 students were used by the constructivist teaching program and the other two classes were handled by the traditional teaching program. Two teachers who have twenty years' careers guided the program prepared by researcher to the students and this examination was conducted for 8 weeks (total 20 class hours). In pretest and posttest, both groups were tested in the science inquiry skills and science-related attitudes. An interview and questionnaire for the students analyzed the responses about the constructivist instruction. The major results of this study are as follows: First, in science inquiry skills test, there was no statistical significance between the score of the experimental group and that of the comparative group(p>.05). The ability of formulating problem in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the comparative group at 0.05 level. In pretest and posttest, the experimental group was statistically significant on classifying, formulating problem, interpreting data, while the comparative group was not significant on those. Second, we can find that the experimental group has more positive effect on forming the desirable science-related attitudes than the comparative group(p<.05). Especially, experimental group is significantly higher the attitudes about the science curriculum than the comparative group at 0.05 level Third, constructivist instruction has more affirmative tendency of the students' learning activity. Constructivist instruction generated much interest and curiosity about science for the students, and this method prompted students' expression and discussion.

The purpose of this study was to investigate science related attitudes, scientific knowledge, and scientific inquiry skills of middle school students when HASA(3H-hand, head, heart-at Science Activity) programs were applied to them. The HASA program is a program developed as an alternative to the current educational system. There are some basic principles for developing this program; it should be fun or of interest to students; it should be a manual activity that students can do with their own hands; it should be found in everyday life; and it's final goal is to improve scientific attitudes. The learning program consists of a series of 10 activities (10 periods). One hundred and sixty-two middle school students (7th graders) participated in the study and were divided into three groups. The HASA group (N=58) was exposed to the HASA program and the Lecture group (N=59) was exposed to the expository method of learning scientific knowledge, and the Lab group (N=45) was exposed to the experiment through textbooks. The results were as follows: 1) the HASA group was marginally higher than others but with no significant difference in science related attitudes; 2) the Lecture group had a significantly greater level of achievement in science knowledge; 3) There was no difference in the improvement of scientific inquiry skills.
