  • To study the ecological characteristics of the Korean native firefly, Luciola lateralis, development and life history of L. lateralis were investigated throughout the indoor rearing. Average size of egg with an oval shape was 0.51${\times}$0.56 mm and an egg period of L. tateralis was approximately 25.8 days. The larvae were pupated at the 5$^{th}$ instar and the body length of the matured larvae was 15.8mm. The total periods of larval stage to the end of the $5^{th}$ instar were approximately 271.7 days. Pupae formed soil cocoon and average pupal period was approximately 28.7 days. Average number of eggs oviposited by a female was approximately 97. The body size of female in the pupa and adult were larger that of male.

  • This research aimed for revealing social interaction-based environmental learning elements at the natural history museum. First, we carried out a survey of the perceptual change about 'the environment' concept. It was for confirming whether environmental learning occurred in visiting. Second, we found environmental learning elements through analyzing dialogues among small group members during looking around the museum. Social interaction-based environmental learning elements were classified into five; knowledge, affection, value, skill, behaviour. Each environmental learning element included several sub-elements, so we revealed totally 9 environmental learning sub-elements. By results, we said characteristics and possibility of the natural history museum as an informal environmental educational institution. It is meaningful for extending areas of environmental education.

  • Natural history museums used to be called an "informal learning institute". It is based on the assumption that their exhibition and exhibits are supposed to reflect school science curriculum and support school science programs. This study is to explore how this assumption is verified in terms of content-wise connections between school science and museum exhibits. In this study, 461 Earth Science related exhibits were selected from the Smithonian Museums and the American Museum of Natural History in the U.S. and analyzed with several instruments. The instrument targeting on Earth Science curriculum was framed based on the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (1993) and the National Science Curriculum Standards (1996). Other than content-wise connections, this study investigated exhibition characteristics related to better learning of science: these characteristics were types of activities, exhibition media, exhibition technology, and presentation methods. The nature of science shown in exhibits were examined as well. Natural history museums were reconsidered for their relevance and potential as informal educational venues from this study.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve education program for Informal Science Education Institution by analyzing education program of Natural History Museum, one of informal science education institution. This research subject is Seodaemun Museum of Natural History, located in Seodaemun-Gu, Seoul. It is Public Natural History Museum, which runs more than 60 education programs every year continuously for recent 6 years. Objects of this study are 32 education programs for 3rd to 6th grade of elementary school. The result of study shows that teaching materials of programs, run by informal science education institution, don't contain enough script and activity for improving creativity and inquiring mind. As the result of the study, it is required that guidance plan of education program be developed with more activities, teaching method and script, to seek quality of class than quantity of that when developing education program of science education institutes. And it is required to develop teaching material using creative technique and to improve medium and long term program for development of feedback.

  • The history of investigation of the family Velutinidae from 1776 to the present day is briefly described in the last part of this review; the contemporary system of the family, consisting of 39 species and subspecies, belonging to 17 genera and subgenera, and three subfamilies, is presented here. A biogeographic analysis of the fauna has been made, the history of origin and development of the family, vertical distribution and relation to substrates have been described in this work.

  • This study aims to analyze the reserch result about housing history of multi-disciplines especially archeology, cultural anthropology, folklore, geography, archtecture and dwelling science. Each discipline has acted an important role to develop the research on housing history, even though they have some limitations. They usually failed in clarfying the relationship among physical housing, habitants and social environment. In order to overcome these limitations, this study suggests microsociological approach, so called "Housing Adjustment Model".del".uot;.

  • A symmetry breaking nonlinear fluid flow in a two-dimensional wall-driven square cavity taking symmetric boundary condition after some transients has been investigated numerically. It has been shown that the symmetry breaking critical Reynolds number is dependent on the time history of the boundary condition. The cavity has at least three stable steady state solutions for Re=300-375, and two stable solutions if Re>400. Also, it has also been showed that a particular solution among several possible solutions can be obtained by a controlled boundary condition.

  • In this study, science history program was developed to enhance student's concepts toward the particulate nature of matter and the understanding about the nature of science. And the effects of its application was investigated in the lesson of ‘Composition of Matter' in middle school science class. This science history program was based on genetic approach and included the contents from the old Greek natural philosophers to Avogadro. Before instruction, the test of understanding about nature of science was administered, and the science scores of the previous course were obtained, which were used as covariates. During 24 class hours, this study was conducted with two classes(experimental and comparison group) in a middle school in Seoul. The experimental group was received lessons by science history programs and the comparison group was received traditional lessons. After instruction, the scientific concept test, the test of understanding about nature of science were administered. The result of this study indicates that the scientific concept scores of experimental group were significantly higher than comparison group at p <.01 level of significance. It means that the students in experimental group has more sound conceptions about the particulate nature of matter and less mis conceptions about matter than the students in comparison group. However, there was no significant difference between two groups in the score of understanding about the nature of science.
