With SPSS 18.0 program, measured variables were analyzed and compared using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$ post hoc test, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results: The level of depression among female middle school students were higher among students with lower economic status, second in birth order, and second grade in school. The level of depression was negatively associated with the level of paternal attachment (r=-.522), maternal attachment (r=-.487), peer attachment (r=-.376), relationship with teachers in school adjustment (r=-.274), relationship with friends in school adjustment (r=-.378), classroom behavior (r=-.450), school regulation (r=-.267). • Peer status, friendship, and school adjustment were measured for 326 third and fourth graders (171 boys, 155 girls). School adjustment was assessed by academic performance, and social behaviors were rated by teachers while attitudes toward school were reported by children. Examination of the relative contributions of peer status and friendship to school adjustment revealed both unique and joint explanations. Children's academic performance was mainly explained by peer status; popular children had higher performance than rejected children. Attitudes toward school were more positive for children who reported higher friendship quality. Prosocial behaviors were higher for the popular group and for children with more stable reciprocal friends; aggressive behaviors were higher for the rejected group and competitive children with close friends; withdrawal behaviors were higher for the neglected group and children with few reciprocal friends.

  • This study aims to discover how self-esteem and social competence in early childhood affect school adjustment in elementary school. This study used the 7th year (2014) and 10th year (2017) of the panel study on Korean children, which are longitudinal research data from the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education (KICCE). Pearson's correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were used as the main statistical analysis methods. The analysis was performed using the the Spss 21.0 program. As a result of this study, peer acceptance among early childhood's self-esteem, assertion, cooperation, and self-control among social competence have influences on adjustment to elementary school life. This study is meaningful in that it is a longitudinal study conducted with a time difference for 3 years with the same subjects in order to investigate the influence of the inner factors of early childhood on school adjustment in elementary school.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of discriminating a high level of school adjustment in low-income school-aged children using interpersonal-related variables(mother attachment, peer attachment) and self-related variables(ego-resiliency, self-control). The subjects were 335 children in fourth, fifth and sixth grades in 4 elementary schools in Daegu. Mean(SD), t-test, and stepwise discriminant analysis were used for data analysis. Base on the results of the discriminant analysis, the discriminant functions suggested that the best predictor for distinguishing between a high level of school adjustment in low-income school-aged children and a low level of school adjustment was ego-resiliency. Self-control, mother attachment and peer attachment reliably separated the groups. And using ego-resiliency, self-control, mother attachment and peer attachment as predictors, the discriminant analysis correctly classified 92.3% of the participants.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the most critical variables in the school adjustment of youth. In addition, this research assessed the impact of variables according to the categorization of individual, family, and school domains. To acquire the effect sizes, published studies between 1990 and 2012 were reviewed systematically and synthesized by meta-analysis. The major findings were as follows. First, this study identified a total of 34 variables which can have an influence on the school adjustment of youth and confirmed that 24 of those variables are significant. The most crucial variable that can influence school adjustment is that of a teacher's support. The next most important variables are self-resilience, relationships with friends, and self-efficiency. Focusing on the categorized elements, self-resilience is the most critical variable in the individual domain, the parent-child relation is the most crucial variable in the family domain, and a teacher's support is the most powerful variable in the school domain. Based on these results, this study suggested a number of the indispensable components in interventions to improve the youth's adjustment in school.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the children's school adjustment on family strength, social support and parental efficacy according to their parents perception and to submit basic material to recognize the necessity of strengthening parental capability for enhancing children's adaptation to school. The summary of the results of the study was as below. All of the subjects who recognized family strength, social support and parental efficacy according to their parents perception showed middle score over 3. The parents who recognized family strength and parental efficacy were examined as the factors which influence children's adjustment to school. These showed that children's adjustment to school is better when parents recognized that family strength is higher, and when parents recognized that parental efficacy is higher. But when parents recognized social support, no meaningful influence appeared, so if the parents who are first social supporters of school-aged children understand the importance of children's adjustment to school, which has a high adaptability with high social support, and recognize the difference of the influence of social support on the children's adjustment to school and home, it could be the factor to reduce children's adjustment problems at school.
