  • The summary of a study of efficacy of Rose essential oil and Lavender essential oil against physiologic active change s of skin caused to surfactant is as follows. 1. In feed intake efficiency, there is more significant difference than control group, and then in water intake, there are significant differences between each group. It is presented that the water intake efficiency ratio of the group treated by Rose essential oil and Lavender essential oil is higher than all of groups to be participated in experiment. And then, the reason that the group treated Lavender essential oil is lower than any other group is needed water intake to be caused by stress. 2. As the result of serum analysis, in atherosclerotic index(A.I), the cholesterol of control group is higher than that of the group treated. As HDL cholesterol is activated, the dan1aged group is higher than control group, in LDL cholesterol the control group is higher. It is seen that the damaged group of the quantity of HDL cholesterol is lower frequently in A.I. This fact is presented that HDL cholesterol that cholesterol is exhausted is changed, because of the dan1aged group that replacement is activated. 3. As the observed result of alteration of sebaceous glands, it is appeared that the demage of sebaceous glands is destroyed in the damaged group. It is observed that epidermis of the group applied by Rose essential oil after treated surfactant is dry, secretion of phenomenon of water and sebum is appeared more. It is observed that the epidermis recovery of the group applied by Lavender essential oil after treated surfactant is insufficient. And then it is seen that stratum corneum is recovered and the quantity of sebum secretion is decreased. 4. As the observed result of alteration of Mast cell group treated by Rose essential oil and Lavender essential oil for 3 weeks Luna's stain(${\times}100$), it is observed that the damaged group treated by Lavender essential oil is numerous in alteration of mast cell's number and Mast cell's size is larger than the dan1aged group. It is presented that the Mast cell's number and Mast cell's size is larger than the damaged group, the Mast cell's size and quantity of the group treated by Rose essential oil and Lavender essential oil is decreased more.

  • In this study, the effect of laminate thickness on the compressive behaviour of composite materials is investigated through systematic experimental work using the stacking sequences, $[O_4]_{ns},{\;}[45/0/-45/90]_{ns}$ and $[45_n/0_n/-45_n/90_n]_s$ (n=2 to 8). Parameters such as fibre volume fraction, void content, fibre waviness and interlaminar stresses, influencing compressive strength with increasing laminate thickness are also studied experimentally and theoretically. Furthermore the stacking sequence effects on failure strength of multidirectional laminates are examined. For this purpose, two different scaling techniques are used; (1) ply-level technique $[45_n/0_n/-45_n/90_n]s$ and (2) sublaminate level technique $[45/0/-45/90]_{ns}$. An apparent thickness effect existes in the lay-up with blocked plies, i.e. unidirectional specimens ($[O_4]_{ns}) and ply-level scaled multidirectional specimens ($[45_n/0_n/-45_n/90_n]_s$). Fibre waviness and void content are found to be main parameters contributing to the thickness effect on the compressive failure strength. However, the compressive strength of the sublaminate level scaled specimens ($[45/0/-45/90]_{ns}$) is almost unaffected regardless of the specimen thickness (since ply thickness remains constant). From the investigation of the stacking sequence effect, the strength values obtained from the sublaminate level scaled specimens are slightly higher than those obtained from the ply level scaled specimens. The reason for this effect is explained by the fibre waviness, void content, free edge effect and stress redistribution in blocked $0^{\circ}$ plies and unblocked $0^{\circ}$ plies. The measured failure strengths are compared with the predicted values.

  • Aircraft wing structure is used as a fuel tank containing the fluid. Fuel tank and joint parts are consists of composite structure. Hydrodynamic Ram(HRAM) effect occurs when the high speed object pass through the aircraft wing or explosion and the high pressure are generated in the fuel tank by HRAM effect. High pressure can cause failure of the fuel tank and the joint parts as well as the aircraft wing structure. To ensure the aircraft survivability design, we shall examine the behavior of the joint parts in HRAM effect. In this study, static tensile tests were conducted on four kind of the composite T-Joints. The failure behavior of the composite T-joint was examined by strain gauges and high speed camera. We examine the validity of the Finite Element Modeling by comparing the results of FEA and static tensile tests. The failure stresses and failure pressure of the composite T-Joint were calculated by FEA.

  • The objective of this research was to study the effect of astaxanthin (AST) on growth performance and antioxidant capacity in golden pompano (Trachinotus ovatus) both in vivo and in vitro. In the in vivo study, two diets were formulated with or without astaxanthin supplementation (D1 and D2; 0 and 200 mg/kg) to feed fish for 6 weeks. In the in vitro study, cells from hepatopancreas of golden pompano were isolated and four treatments with or without astaxanthin and $H_2O_2$ supplementation were applied (control group: without both astaxanthin and $H_2O_2$ treated; $H_2O_2$ group: just with $H_2O_2$ treated; $H_2O_2$ + AST group: with both astaxanthin and $H_2O_2$treated; AST group: just with AST treated). Results of the in vivo study showed that weight gain (WG) and special growth rate (SGR) significantly increased with astaxanthin supplemented (P < 0.05). Feed conversion ratio (FCR) of fish fed D2 diet was significantly lower than that of fish fed D1 diet (P < 0.05). Hepatic total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) and the reduced glutathione (GSH) of golden pompano fed D2 diet were significant higher than those of fish fed D1 diet (P < 0.05). Superoxide dismutase (SOD) was significantly declined as astaxanthin was supplemented (P < 0.05). Results of the in vitro study showed that the cell viability of $H_2O_2$ group was 52.37% compared to the control group, and it was significantly elevated to 84.18% by astaxanthin supplementation ($H_2O_2$ + AST group) (P < 0.05). The total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) and the reduced glutathione (GSH) of cell were significant decreased by oxidative stress from $H_2O_2$ (P < 0.05), but it could be raised by astaxanthin supplementation ($H_2O_2$ vs $H_2O_2$ + AST), and the malondialdehyde (MDA) was significant higher in $H_2O_2$ group (P < 0.05) and astaxanthin supplementation could alleviate the cells from lipid peroxidation injury. In conclusion, dietary astaxanthin supplementation can improve the growth performance of golden pompano. Moreover, astaxanthin can improve the golden pompano hepatic antioxidant capacity both in vivo and in vitro study by eliminating the reactive oxygen species.

  • The present study was performed to analyze and review the physical and immune responses to overtraining syndrome in humans. Overreaching refers to the initial phage of overtraining syndrome and has been known as a physical fatigue which is mainly from metabolic imbalance. It has been known that overtraining also results in a loss of adaptability which may lead to an attenuation of exercise performance, sleeping disorder, central fatigue, neurohormonal changes, difficulty recovery to physical stress, and immunological changes. Additionally, overtraining syndrome is characterized by persistent fatigue, poor performance in sport due to the prolonged and strenuous physical training. Also, previous studies reported that endurance athletes experienced a high incidence of URTI during intense training and the post training. And also, high-performance athletes reported that suppression of cell mediated and anti-body mediated immune function. NK cell numbers were also reduced in the period of overtraining syndrome. Major components of prevention and treatment for the overtraining syndrome are screening, education, and detraining. Furthermore, the combination of these prevention and treatment strategies will be much helpful. Therefore, the current review will be helpful for athletes and individuals who are at the risk of overtraining syndrome.

  • Background : In spite of the worldwide relevance of obsessive-compulsive disorder Ed-highlight : Unclear. Perhaps consider changing word choice. (OCD), there are considerable differences in prevalence, sex ratio, comorbidity patterns, and sociodemographic correlates. Data on subclinical OCD have been sparse to date. Methods : Data stemmed from the Korea Epidemiologic Catchment Area (KECA) study which had been carried out from April to December 2001. Korean versions of DSM-IV adapted Composite International Diagnostic Interview were administered to a representative sample of 6275 persons aged 18-64 living in the community. DSM-IV based criteria for subclinical OCD were applied. Results : The lifetime prevalence rates for OCD and subclinical OCD were 0.8% and 6.6%, respectively. In both OCD and subclinical OCD, the rates for males and females were not statistically different. OCD was demonstrated to be associated with depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder, and alcohol and nicotine dependence. Additionally, subclinical OCD was associated with posttraumatic stress and somatoform disorders. Comorbidity rates in subclinical OCD were lower than those in OCD. Conclusions : The lifetime prevalence rate for OCD was less than 1% in the Korean general population. Age distribution and comorbidity patterns suggest that subclinical OCD represents a broad and heterogeneous syndrome and not simply a milder form of OCD.

  • The body odor as well as the skin changes has become an important issue. Humans leave respective specific odors dependent on sex and age; The odor has been known to affect social relationship of human. In this study, we wanted to confirm the possibility as parameters to evaluate body odor into existing odor evaluation methods by experts. The 15 subjects, aged from 50 to 61 years wore cotton t-shirts for 72 hours and collected body odor. The cotton t-shirts containing body odor were used for sensory evaluation and EEG measurement by the odor experts. In order to evaluate body odors of each subject, an odor sensory evaluation and electroencephalogram (EEG) were conducted by odor exports and the correlation in between two assessments was analyzed. Pearson correlation analysis shows negative correlation of the sensory evaluation versus 'Excitement' in EEG parameter (r = - 0.649, p = 0.009) and positive correlation of the sensory evaluation versus 'Stress' in EEG parameter (r = 0.704, p = 0.003). In conclusion, it is considered that the evaluation of body odor through EEG measurement can be used as a method to complement the odor evaluation by experts.

  • We aimed to investigate the responses of soil organisms to cover plants and to provide information for the selection of proper plant species. We studied the effects of 7 cover plants, including rye, oat, rattail fescue, Chinese milk vetch, red clover, crimson clover, and hairy vetch, on soil organisms in an apple orchard. An increase in the microbial phospholipid fatty acids (PLFA) and in the number of nematodes and microarthropods in the soil under the cover plants reflects elevated activities of soil organisms. A decrease in the level of some marker PLFA, which is an indicator of environmental stress, suggests that cover plants provide favorable environments for soil organisms. The population of fungi and animals that feed on fungi increased in the soil surface under red clover. The population density of nematodes and mites increased in the soil surface under rattail fescue, and that of mites and omnivorous nematodes increased in the soil surface under Chinese milk vetch. The level of microbial PLFA in the soil surfaces under the tested cover plants was higher than that under clean culture system. These results suggest that proper selection of the cover plants can facilitate the creation of favorable environments for soil organisms.

  • The pulmonary alveolar macrophage is thought to play an important role in the mediation of acute inflammatory lung injury by secretory products including degraded enzymes, cytokines, and reactive oxygen metabolites . This study was conceived to understand the role of alveolar macrophage in oxidative stress induced acute lung injury. To examine the alveolar macrophages and xanthine oxidase (XO) activity in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), time-dependent changes of numbers of alveolar macrophages, monocytes and neutrophils in alveolar cavity were counted in association with ultrastructural and cytochemical observations of lung tissue and alveolar cells. The number of monocytes was increased (p<0.001) at 1h after IL-1 treatment compared with that of sham. At 2h after instillation of IL-1, the number of alveolar macrophages was the highest, XO activity in BALF was elevated at 2h after IL-1 instillation and the activity was markedly elevated(p<0.05) at 3h after IL-1 treatment. On the basis of these experimental results, it is suggested that, during early phase of acute lung injury induced by IL-1, alveolar macrophage-derived XO contributes to lung injury earlier than the neutrophilic respiratory burst.

  • Thin films play an important role in many technological applications including microelectronic devices, magnetic storage media, MEMS and surface coatings. It is well known that a thin film's material properties can be very different from the corresponding bulk properties and thus there has been a strong need for the development of a reliable test method to measure the mechanical properties of a thin film. We have developed an alternative and convenient test method to overcome the limitations of previous membrane deflection experiment and uniaxial tensile test by adopting a white light interferometer having sub-nanometer out-of-plane displacement resolution. The freestanding aluminium specimens are tested to verity the effectiveness of the test method developed and get the tensile properties. The specimens are 0.5 rum wide, $1{\mu}m$ thick and fabricated through MEMS processes including sputtering. 1 to 5 specimens are fabricated on Si dies. The membrane deflection experiments are carried out by using a homemade tester consisted of a motor-driven loading tip, a load cell, and 6 DOF alignment stages. The test system is compact enough to set it up beneath a commercial white light interferometric microscope. The white light fringes are utilized to align a specimen with the tester. The Young's modulus and yield point stress of the aluminium film are 62 GPa and 247 MPa, respectively.
