인천지역 초 · 중 · 고등학교의 학교환경 및 책걸상에 대한 인간공학적 연구 (An Ergonomic Study of School Environment and Desks/chairs in Incheon Metropolitan Area)

  • An ergonomic study of school environment and school desks and chairs was conducted in Incheon metropolitan area. Total of 1,145 students from 11 schools participated in questionnaire survey and ergonomic evaluation of school desks and chairs was performed to study structural appropriateness and usability. Results of the study revealed that overall levels of school environment in terms of noise and dust density in the air were higher than safety standard. Desks and chairs were not properly designed with consideration of student's anthropometric characteristics. Prompt improvement of school environment and re-designing of school furniture are required in order to prevent reduced performance in study and physical disorders such as musculoskeletal disorders.

  • 대구지역 중 고등학교 학생들의 학교 책상과 의자의 표준 호수 사용 여부와 그에 따른 신체적 자각 증상 호소율을 조사하기 위하여 1995년 3월 20일에서 4월 19일 사이에 대구지역내에 소재한 남.여, 중 고등학교 전학년 학생 1,201명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시하여 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 중 고등학교 학생들이 사용하는 책상과 의자는 표준 호수보다 1~3호 정도 높은 것이 대부분이었으며, 희망 호수 역시 조금 높은 것을 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 표준 호수를 사용하고 있는 학생은 책상 30.5%, 의자 21.0%였고. 표준호수보다 큰 호수를 사용하고 있는 경우는 책상 61.3%, 의자65.2% 였으며 표준 호수 보다 작은 경우는 각각 8.2%, 13.8%였다. 중학교의 표준 호수 사용율은 책상 44.1%, 의자 26.8%로 고등학교의 16.1% 및 14.7%보다 높았고, 남학생은 책상 31.5%, 의자 24.5%로 여학생의 29.6% 및 17.6%보다 높았다. 공립학교의 표준 호수 사용율은 책상 34.2%, 의자 24.5%로 사립학교의 27.1%, 및 17.5%보다 높은 편이지만 양군 모두 표준호수 사용율은 낮았다. 책상 사용시 가장 불편한 점으로는 낡았다, 서랍이 좁다, 낮다, 면이 고르지 않다의 순이었고. 의자 사용시 가장 불편한 점은 의자면이 딱딱하다, 등받이가 딱딱하다, 낡았다, 낮다, 높다, 면이 좁다의 순이었다. 책상 및 의자의 사용으로 인한 신체부위별 통증 호소율은 중학교 남.여학생에선 목 어깨 호소율이 각각 32.2%, 36.0%로 가장 높았고, 고등학교 남.여학생은 허리 호소율이 각각 37.9%, 44.1%로 가장 높았다. 신장이 증가할수록 허리 통증 호소율이 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 목 어깨 통중은 전반적으로 높게 호소했다. 책상 및 의자를 표준 호수로 사용활 경우 목 어깨 통증 호소율은 각각 25.4% 및 23.8%인데 비해 표준 호수보다 큰 책상이나 의자를 사용하는 경우는 각각 31.5% 및 31.8%로 호소율이 높았으며, 작은 경우 역시 26.5% 및 28.9%로 높았다. 표준 호수 보다 크거나 작은 책상 및 의자를 사용하는 경우에 비해 표준 호수를 사용할 경우 허리통증 호소율이 모두 낮았다. 대구지역 중 고등학교 학생들의 책상 및 의자의 표준 호수 사용율은 매우 낮았으며, 사용하는 책상과 의자 호수가 자신이 희망하는 호수와 많은 차이를 보이고 있으며, 이에 따른 신체 부위별 통증 호소율은 비교적 높게 나타났다. 따라서 학생들의 체격조건을 고려하여 책상과 의자를 구입, 배분하는데 최대한의 배려를 하여야 할 것이며, 표준호수와 선호도를 반영한 다양한 호수의 잉여책상과 의자의 보유비율을 높여야 할 것으로 생각한다.

  • A field study was conducted to assess the preferred height and the range of discomfort recognition of school desks and chairs for students from elementary school to high school. For this study 43 male subjects and 44 female subjects in Taejon area were surveyed. The result shows that the preferred height of chairs is about 1.7cm higher than the popliteal sitting height, while the preferred height of desks shows no significant difference with the elbow sitting height which is known to be the ergonomically proper desk height. The threshold value between comfort and discomfort recognition of chair height is 1.88cm below the most prefeered height and 1.79cm about it. The threshold value between comfort and discomfort recognition of desk height is 1.76cm below the most prefeered height and 2.62cm about it.

  • This study intends to improve the efficiencies of school works by proposing a method of determining the standard sizes of chairs and desks. To achive this purpose, eight measurements were taken of 1248 school children. The main results drawn from this study are : 1. There are significant correlations between stature and popliteal height and between stature and elbow height (seated). 2. There are significant differences between men and women of similar stature in respect of popliteal height. 3. The standard sizes of chairs and desks ought to be based on the characteristics of human body size and their relationship.

  • KS G 2010 규격은 학생용 책상 및 의자에 대한 호수와 치수를 규정하고 있다. JIS 를 참조한 이 규격은 지난 10 여 년 간 사용되어 왔는데, 그간 학생집단의 신체 크기가 크게 성장해 이에 대한 검토와 개정이 요청되고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 개정의 필요성과 방향을 알아보기 위해 초,중,고등 학생들을 상대로 한 설문조사를 계획, 실시하였다. 설문 조사 결과 많은 학생들이 책상과 의자에 대한 많은 불편을 느끼고 있으며, 허리와 엉덩이 등 신체부위에도 불편함으로 느끼는 것으로 조사되었다. 이러한 조사 결과는 학생용 책상 및 의자의 규격 개정 방향에 대한 참조 자료로 사용될 것이다.

  • Because students are spending more time in their classroom for learning and study, indoor air quality problems in school classrooms are very important. when the classroom is built for the first time, namely newly built school, the selection of inside finishing material is directly connected with indoor air quality problems especially with HCHO and TVOC. But until now, there is no plenty of study about this. Moreover, there are some concerns about the desks and chairs which are used in classroom will affect the air quality. but almost no study is being made at all Therefore, this study focuses on the field survey and analysis of classroom indoor air quality in newly built schools in Changwon. In this study filed surveys and analysis are conducted as follows. 1) The effect of the material difference in general classroom. 2) The effect of the material and loading ratio difference in special classroom. 3) The effect of the desks and chairs in general classroom.

한국 아동의 신체치수에서 본 아동용 학교 의자의 적합성 (Suitability of classroom chairs from standpoint of body dimensions of school children in Korea)

  • School children sit long on chairs in their classrom. Their posture is closely related to their chairs. Study of this relationship is very imporant for the health and education of school children. This report presents the results of study condcuted to determine the present status of classroom chairs and solve any problems identifede. The study involved 125 teachers in Seoul and Pusan, 175 fourth graders in Seoul, and 109 fourth graders in Puasn. The body dimensions of the school children and the dimensions of their chairs and desks were measured, and their postures while they studied at their desk were photographed. The following problems were identified as a result of the investigation: (1) Chairs are allocated to pupils according to their stature. (2) The teachers are not satisfied with the chairs and the method by which the chairs are allocated to their pupils. (3) The pupils complain of low seat height, narrow seat, and hard backrest, among other conditions. (4) The pupils select a chair one size larger than that suggested by their body size. (5) The poor posture of the pupils is traced to the seat height and sasyaku$(sitting height {\times} 1/3-1)$ of their chairs, their habit, their way of holding pencils, and lack of instruction by their teachers. The following recommendations are made to solve these problems: (1) Adjust the seat height and desk height to accommodate the pupils. (2) Provide both teachers and pupils with adequate knowledge of chails. (3) Provided each pupil with one desk and make the desk adjustable to sit his or her body dimensions. (4) Allocate a chair and desk to each pupil for his or her exclusive use. (5) Reserch and develop conversion tables that help to find suitable chails for individual pupils. New values of sasyaku and desk height, not specified in Korean Industrial Standards(KS), are proposed.

조절 가능한 학생용 책상과 의자의 인간공학적 설계 및 평가 (Ergonomic Design and Evaluation of Adjustable Desk and Chair for Students)

  • This study was conducted to develop a prototype of adjustable desk and chair for students from elementary to high school. The development process started with identifying the problems of existing adjustable desks and chairs that are currently available in the market. The following fundamental design criteria were established and then applied to develop the prototype. The criterion of minimization of production cost yielding lower the market selling price was the most critically considered in view of the school furniture buyers' price-consciousness. Other design criteria used in this development were designing for stable and solid structure, requiring few motions and no tools to adjust, requiring the use of only one hand to adjust, unrestricting the adjustable interval, providing extra space for foot and knee area, reducing weight to move easily, and requiring not to move around for cleaning up floor. To evaluate the performance of the prototype, the adjustability of prototype was specifically compared with both dimensions suggested by KS G 2010(Korean Standards for desks and chairs for students) and current anthropometric dimension in terms of the flexible range of accommodation. Results of this study illustrate that the prototype developed in this study could be accommodated for the both dimensions. As a concluding mark, appropriate adjustable range for various grades and age groups were presented.

청소년들에서 근막동통증후군의 유병률과 위험요인 (Prevalence and Risk Factors of Myofascial Pain Syndrome on School Boys)

  • Objectives : To inquire the prevalence and the risk factors for myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) on young boys in order to use these results as the fundamental data for the prevention of their MPS. Methods : For 7 days in May 1999, this research was taken on 489 male students ranging from 6th to 12th grade. We randomly selected a class for every group and from these classes we operated physical examinations, self-reported questionnaires and from a rehabilitation doctor, MPS test was taken. Thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis were also taken by using the inclinometer. We defined MPS as a regional pain complaint, palpable taut band that is painful on compression. Results : The shoulder MPS prevalence of the subjects were 29.7 persons/100 persons. The statistics revealed that as grades went up, the percentage significantly increased in the MPS prevalence. As of case-control study, 145 students who were tested postive in all aspects were placed as cases, and 176 students who were perfectly normal as controls on risk factors. As a result of comparing the student groups who were stisfied with their chairs to the student groups were not satisfied, the taller showed a significantly higher odds ratio (p<0.01). By the multiple logistic regression test, we concluded that the MPS disease was prevailed far more in the students in the higher grades (Odds ratio: 1.16, 95% C.I.: 1.03-1.31), and also those who were dissatisfied with their chairs than in the ones who were satisfied (Odds ratio: 1.92, 95% C.I.: 1.17-3.17). Conclusions : Significant correlations showed between the MPS diagnosed group and the students who are dissatisfied with their chairs. As a result, more research and observation has to be made concerning this disease, and the desks and chairs should be adjusted to suit the student's physical standards.
