SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) is an effective tool for monitoring areas damaged by disasters. Full PolSAR (Polarimetric SAR) enhances SAR's capabilities by providing specific scattering mechanisms. Thus, full PolSAR data have been widely used to analyze the situation when disasters occur. To interpret full PolSAR data, model-based decomposition methods are frequently used due to its easy physical interpretation of PolSAR data and computational efficiency. However, these methods present problems. One of the key problems is the overestimation of the volume scattering component. To minimize the volume scattering component, the OA (Orientation Angle) compensation method is widely utilized. This paper shows that the effect of the OA compensation was analyzed over landslide affected areas. In this paper, the OA compensation is applied by using the OA estimated from the maximum relative Hellinger distance. We conducted an experiment using two full polarimetric ALOS/PALSAR (Advanced Land Observing Satellite/Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar)-2 data collected over Mocoa, Colombia which was seriously damaged by the 2017 Mocoa landslide. After OA compensation, the experimental results showed volume scattering power decreased, while the double-bounce and surface scattering power increased. Particularly, significant changes were noted in urban areas. In addition, after OA compensation, the separability of the double-bounce and surface scattering components are improved over the damaged building areas. Furthermore, changes in the OA can discriminate visually between the damaged building areas and undamaged areas. In conclusion, we demonstrated that the effect of OA compensation improved the influence of the double-bounce and surface scattering components, and OA changes can be useful for detecting damaged building areas.

This paper presents a Monte-Carlo FDTD technique to determine the scattered field from a perfectly conducting surface like a sea surface, from which the useful information on the incoherent pattern tendency could be observed. A one-dimensional sea surface used to analysis scattering was generated using the Pierson-Moskowitz model. In order to verify the numerical results by this technique, these results are compared with those of the small perturbation method, which show a good match between them. To investigate the incoherent pattern tendency involved, the dependence of the back scattering coefficients on the different wind speed(U) is discussed for the back scattering case.
We propose a two-dimensional (2D) scattering-center-extraction (SCE) method using sparse recovery based on the compressive-sensing theory, even with data missing from the received radar cross-section (RCS) dataset. First, using the proposed method, we generate a 2D grid via adaptive discretization that has a considerably smaller size than a fully sampled fine grid. Subsequently, the coarse estimation of 2D scattering centers is performed using both the method of iteratively reweighted least square and a general peak-finding algorithm. Finally, the fine estimation of 2D scattering centers is performed using the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) procedure from an adaptively sampled Fourier dictionary. The measured RCS data, as well as simulation data using the point-scatterer model, are used to evaluate the 2D SCE accuracy of the proposed method. The results indicate that the proposed method can achieve higher SCE accuracy for an incomplete RCS dataset with missing data than that achieved by the conventional OMP, basis pursuit, smoothed L0, and existing discrete spectral estimation techniques.
Visibility reduction is a barometer of air pollution which people can notice easily. First of all we need to measure quantified visibility continuously in order to examine visibility reduction. Prevailing visibility is not practical to measure visibility depending on observer's expertness. Scattering visibility using Forward Scattering Meter(Belfort Visibility Sensor 6230) has been measured at Kwangan-Dong in Pusan and analysed since July 1998. According to the analysis the correlation coefficient(R) between prevailing visibility and scattering visibility was 0.7235. The visibility appeared that each frequency of poor visibility(under 6km) and good visibility(over 25km) was 10.6%, 9.7% on summertime in Pusan and the visibility range from 10km to 20km ranked high frequency as a half of whole ranges. The order of correlation coefficients between visibility an air pollutants are ranking CO. PM10 and NO2 that values are 0.5878, 0.5369,l 0.5284 respectively. In meteorolgical factor the case of poor visibility presented more weakly wind speed and higher relative humidity than the case of good visibility. The correlation coefficient between calculated visibility of multiple linear regression model and observed visibility was 0.7215. But the trend of calculated and observed visibility variation was similar with the exception of several good visibility cases.

The distribution of light in a randomly scattering medium can represent problems found in many area. Particularly, in the clinical application of lasers for Photodynamic therapy(PDT) or in the fluorescence spectroscopy for biological tissue, turbidity plays a very important role. The influences of fluorophor, scatterer, and absorber in turbid material by light scattering were interpreted for the scattered fluorescence intensity and wavelength. The molecular properties have been studied by laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy in scattering medium as tissue. It has been found that the effects of optical properties in scattering media could be investigated by the optical $parameters({\mu}_s$, ${\mu}_a$ ,${\mu}t)$. Experimental and Monte Carlo simulation method for modelling light transport in tissue was applied. The experimental results using a randomly distributed scattering medium were discussed and compared with those obtained through Monte Carlo simulation. It'll be also important in designing the best model for oil chemistry, medicine and application of medical engineering.
The paper presents an investigation into the mode conversion and scattering characteristics of guided waves at delaminations in laminated composite beams. A three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) model, which is experimentally verified using data measured by 3D scanning laser vibrometer, is used in the investigation. The study consists of two parts. The first part investigates the excitability of the fundamental anti-symmetric mode ($A_0$) of guided wave in laminated composite beams. It is found that there are some unique phenomena, which do not exist for guided waves in plate structures, make the analysis become more complicated. The phenomena are observed in numerical study using 3D FE simulations. In the second part, several delaminated composite beams are studied numerically to investigate the mode conversion and scattering characteristics of the $A_0$ guided wave at delaminations. Different sizes, locations and through-thickness locations of the delaminations are investigated in detail. The mode conversion and scattering phenomena of guided waves at the delaminations are studied by calculating reflection and transmission coefficients. The results show that the sizes, locations and through-thickness locations of the delaminations have significant effects on the scattering characteristics of guided waves at the delaminations. The results of this research would provide better understanding of guided waves propagation and scattering at the delaminations in the laminated composite beams, and improve the performance of guided wave damage detection methods.
We discuss the problems of scattering in this framework, and show that the applied method is very useful in the investigation of the effect of the resonance in the observed scattering cross sections. In this study, not only the scattering cross sections but also the decomposition of the scattering cross sections was computed for the ${\alpha}-{\alpha}$ system. To obtain the decomposition of scattering cross sections into resonance and residual continuum terms, the complex scaled orthogonality condition model and the extended completeness relation are used. Applying the present method to the ${\alpha}-{\alpha}$ and ${\alpha}-n$ systems, we obtained good reproduction of the observed phase shifts and cross sections. The decomposition into resonance and continuum terms makes clear that resonance contributions are dominant but continuum terms and their interference are not negligible. To understand the behavior of observed phase shifts and the shape of the cross sections, both resonance and continuum terms are calculated.
The surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of SCN$^{-}$ was investigated in silver sol. The addition of pyridine significantly increased SERS by as large as 70. The role of pyridine was interpreted based on the model of plasma resonance-enhanced Raman scattering.

In this study, we present a model that can be used to calculate the phonon-surface scattering rate directly from the experimental data on phonon mean free path (MFP) spectra of nanostructures. Using this model and the recently reported length-dependent thermal conductivity measurements on $Si_{0.9}Ge_{0.1}$ nanowires (NWs), we investigate the spectral reduced MFP distribution and the spectral phonon-surface scattering rate in the $Si_{0.9}Ge_{0.1}$ NWs. From the results, it is found that the phonon transport properties with the material and the phonon frequency dependency of the spectral phonon-surface scattering rate per unit length of the NW. The model presented in this study can be used for developing heat transfer analysis models of nanomaterials, and for determining the optimum design for tailoring the heat transfer characteristics of nanomaterials for future applications of phonon nanoengineering.

In this study, coda Q has been determined by the single scattering model in the Kyeongsang Basin region using the decay of the amplitudes of coda waves on bandpass-filtered seismograms of local microearthquakes in the frequency range 1.5~18 Hz. Reported frequency dependence of Q is of the form $Q_C=Q_O^n$$(83.9{ll}Q_0{ll}155.9,;0.76{ll}n{ll}1.05$. Considering a model incorporating both scattering and intrinsic attenuation, and assuming that the attenuation is entirely due to the scattering loss, the minimum mean free paths are about 51~56 km and the coefficients of inelastic attenuation(${\gamma}$) are between 0.0093 and 0.0098 were found. Earthquake-station paths pass through the fault zone show high attenuation and strong frequency dependency compared to other ones.
