Scan Manifestations and Blood Clearance Rates in Typhoid Liver (티프스 간(肝)의 주사(走査)소견과 간혈류 동태)

  • Fourteen patients with typhoid fever were studied by scanning and clearance-rate measurements of subcritical dose colloidal radiogold($^{198}Au$). Mild to moderate enlargement of the liver and spleen was noted in 78.6 and 64.3 per cent of patients, respectively; and splenic and spinal bone-marrow uptake was seen in 78.6 and 57.1 per cent of cases, respectively. Typically, these scan changes occurred concomitantly (57.1%) and are considered to represent increased phagocytic activity of the RE cells which is characteristic of typhoid fever. The half clearance-time was significantly shortened during the first 10-day period of the illness indicating an increas in the hepatic blood in the early phase of typhoid infection. Hepatomegaly, splenomegaly and extrahepatic uptakes along with an accelerated (or later a normal) clearance time are characteristic of typhoid fever.

Polyimide Surface Modification using UV Laser (UV 레이저를 이용한 폴리이미드 표면 개질에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, polyimide (PI) surface was modified by UV Laser with a low laser fluence and investigated changes of surface geometry and chemical characteristics by SEM (scanning electron microscope), X-ray diffraction (XRD), XPS (x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and the measurements of contact angle of water. PI surface was peeled off and modified with microstructure fabrications by photochemical ablation over the laser fluence of 50 mJ/cm2. As laser fluence increased, delamination of PI surface was occurred largely and strongly. In chemical characteristics, the O/C and N/C atomic ratios increased and contact angle decreased from $80^{\circ}$ to $40^{\circ}$.

Annealing Temperature Dependence on the Physicochemical Properties of Copper Oxide Thin Films

  • We report the results of the characterization of Cu oxide thin films deposited by radio frequency (r.f.) magnetron sputtering at different annealing temperatures. The deposited Cu oxide thin films were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, spectroscopic ellipsometry, X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, Xray photoelectron spectroscopy, and contact angle measurements. The thickness of the films was about 180 nm and the monoclinic CuO phase was detected. The $CuO_2$ and $Cu(OH)_2$ phases were grown as amorphous phase and the ratio of the three phases were independent on the annealing temperature. The surface of Cu oxide films changed from hydrophilic to hydrophobic as the annealing temperature increased. This phenomenon is due to the increase of the surface roughness. The direct optical band gap was also obtained and laid in the range between 2.36 and 3.06 eV.

Structural and Electrical Properties of Nanotube as Various Second Anodizing Time for Biosensor (바이오 센서로의 응용을 위한 2차 양극산화 시간에 따른 나노튜브의 구조적, 전기적 특성)

  • In this study, we fabricated anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane by two step anodizing process for pH detection. The structural properties were observed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). Electrochemical measurements of the pH sensor have been performed in capacitance-voltage (C-V) and drift rates. The characterization of AAO membrane exhibited high sensitivity (99.1 mV/pH) at second anodizing time of 4 min.

Effects of Precursor Concentration on the Growth of ZnO Nanorods (ZnO 나노로드 성장에 미치는 전구체 농도의 영향)

  • In this study, ZnO nanorods were grown by a hydrothermal method. $SiO_2/Si$ wafers and glass were used as substrates. ~20 nm-thick ZnO thin films were rf magnetron sputtered for seed layers. The precursor was prepared by mixing zinc nitrate hexahydrate and hexamethylenetetramine (hexamine) in DI water. The concentration of zinc nitrate hexahydrate was fixed at 0.05 mol, and that of hexamine was varied between 0 mol to 0.1 mol. The reactor containing substrates and precursor was put in an oven maintained at $90^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. X-ray diffraction was carried out to analyze the crystallinity of ZnO nanorods, and a field emission scanning electron microscope was employed to observe the morphology of nanorods. Transmittance and absorbance were measured by a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Photoluminescence measurements were conducted using 266 nm light.

  • Limb scanning measurements of the O2 (0-0) Atmospheric band emission by the TIDI instrument aboard the TIMED satellite during 2003-2005 are analyzed to examine the tidal effects on their vertical emission rate according to the solar and geomagnetic activities. The data are restricted at latitudes $60^{\circ}S-60^{\circ}N$ to avoid the contributions by the auroral emission. The variation of the vertical emission rate in latitude and local time is summarized in the yaw periods. The vertical emission profiles of the O2 (0-0) Atmospheric band nightglow averaged in the $10^{\circ}$ latitude range are investigated. The result shows the inverse relationship between the peak emission height and the integrated brightness.

  • The characteristics of carbonaceous particles collected from the combustion of Vacuum Residue (VR) in a test furnace have been investigated. The physical and chemical characterization includes particle size, scanning electron microscopy of the surface structure, measurement of porosity, surface area and density, EDX/XRD analyses and measurement of chemical composition. The studies show that the carbonaceous VR particles are very porous and spheroidal, and have many blow-holes on the surface. The particles become smaller and more sponge-like as the reaction proceeds. The present porosity of VR particles is similar to that of cenospheres from the combustion of heavy oil, and the majority of pores are distributed in macro-pores above $0.03\;{\mu}m$ in diameter. Measurements of pore distribution and surface area showed that the macro-pores contributed most to total pore volume, whereas the micro-pores contributed to total surface area.

  • The thermal impact of mica/epoxy paper(130${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) is investigated using XRD, DSC and TGL X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis was performed to know the position and structure of mica crystal in insulation materials. A differential scanning calorimeter(DSC) was used to measure glass transition temperature and excess enthalphy of the composite materials that had been subjected to thermal aging. The glass transition temperature(T$_{g}$) measured by DSC is observed at 95.43$^{\circ}C$ and 113.43$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The T$_{g}$ also increases with increased aging time. Measurements performed by TGA(thermogravimetric analysis) have showed that weight loss profile of sound specimens are lower than those aged.ged.

  • ZnO buffer layers were used to grow ZnO films on c-plane sapphire substrates. The role of ZnO buffer layers in the growth of ZnO thin films on sapphire substrates was investigated by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Photolumminescence(PL) measurements. At the optimized ZnO buffer layer thickness of 100 $\AA$, FWHM of $\theta$ -rocking curve of ZnO thin films was minimized to 0.73 degrees and room temperature PL spectra showed that deep level emission was not hardly seen. The optimization of the ZnO buffer layer thickness resulted in improvements of the surface morphology and crystalline quality of ZnO thin films.

Nanoscale Charge Transport in P3HT:PCBM:Gold Nanoparticle Composite Materials for Polymer Solar Cell Application

  • Recently, conjugated polymer solar cells have attracted a great deal of attention. In this work, we applied the various scanning probe techniques to characterize composite materials typically used to fabricate polymer solar cells: poly-3(hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) and P3HT/PCBM/Au nanoparticle (NP) samples. The latter is studied due to the idea of using the gold NP surface plasmon to enhance the optical absorption of the composite films. AFM is used to characterize the film morphology whereas conducting AFM is used to study the charge transport properties at the nanoscale. We found that there is a direct correlation between the nanoscale charge transport measurements and the device efficiencies.
