Objectives The study was designed to report the clinical effects of scalp acupuncture on autistic children. Methods These patients were treated by scalp acupuncture. We observed the improvement of his disease through K-CARS and E-CLAC tests. Results By using scalp acupuncture, we could make a considerable improvement of autistic score(K-CARS). Conclusions The above results suggest that scalp acupuncture can be an effective treatment for autistic children.

The purpose of this study is to examine how Bang's Scalp Acupunture affects the aphasia in stroke patients. Subject was 1 stroke patient who was admitted at Daejon University Oriental Hospital. The degree of aphasia was measured by the Daegu Aphasia Battery. The result showed that a comparative study of pre Bang's Scalp Acupunture & post Bang's Scalp Acupunture, aphasia was improved. On the basis of one case result, Bang's Scalp Acupunture is effective in treating poststroke aphasia. Serial studies must be done and requested in the aspects of improvement contrast, improvement durancy and the improvement difference on the healing period.

This study conducted a 4-week clinical trial on 30 males suffering from seborrheic dermatitis and hair loss symptoms to examine the effects of rooibos extract on the seborrheic dermatitis improvement of 30-50 year old middle aged males. The comparison group used shampoo with no rooibos extract while experiment group 1 used shampoo including rooibos extracts, and experiment group 2 used shampoo and scalp enhancer including the rooibos extracts. The results showed that there were no meaningful changes on the scalps of the comparison group while experiment group 2, which used both shampoo and scalp enhancer including rooibos, showed better improvement on seborrheic dermatitis than experiment group 1 which only used shampoo including rooibos. These results imply that shampoo and scalp enhancer including rooibos extracts effectively improve the oil-moisture balance on seborrheic dermatitis and effectively deals with scalp itchiness redness and the color tone of the scalp, suggesting its use in scalp cosmetics that include antioxidation activation elements, which are effective in improving seborrheic dermatitis.

In this study, it is intended to provide basic research data on hair loss and problematic scalp that is expanding to lower age groups and women. When using Company B's hair ampoule containing L-Menthol, Salicylic acid, and Dexpanthenol daily for women in their 20s with problematic scalp, the effect on the scalp and hair after 4 weeks was investigated. As a result of this study, when using Company B's ampoule containing L-Menthol, Salicylic acid, and Dexpanthenol, the subjects showed improvement effects such as relieving inflammation, reducing scalp fever and erythema, reducing itching and hair loss, and increasing hair thickness. In addition, it was confirmed that the scalp self-diagnosis of the subjects showed improvement effects on scalp satisfaction, scalp vitality and elasticity, heat generation, scalp pulling after cleaning, and itching. Through these research results, it is believed that products containing L-Menthol, Salicylic acid, and Dexpanthenol will help improve problematic scalp and hair.

Objectives: Objectives of this research is to test hair growth effect of the hair scalpdetox five step program.Methods : Data for this research is gathered from participants who are suffering from hair loss and have completed scalpdetox five step program at a esthetic by receiving treatments twenty times constantly with once or twice a week during three months from March 2015 to April 2016. The hair scalpdetox program consists of five steps : the first step is shampooing, the second is scalp massage with aroma oils, the third is vertical meridian scrapping massage, the fourth is applying scalp and hair pack made with natural herbs, and the last is scalp massage with an indirect high frequency massaging device.Results: Subjective evaluations from the participants show that overall hair scalp conditions are meaningfully improved. Participants evaluated that tested approach helps hair growth by increasing the number of hair (p<.01) and helps to make their hair thicker (p<.01). Visual observations with magnification by 60 times and 200 times show improvement in hair scalp condition and clean opening of pores. Photographs of hair loss parts of each participant also show improvement in hair growth.Conclusions: From the evaluation of the participants for the test program and from visual observations, we conclude that suggested hair scalpdetox five step program has effect on improving scalp, hair condition, and hair growth.

Objectives : The study was designed to evaluate the effects of scalp acupuncture treatment on patients with insomnia in China. Methods : A journal search was performed using China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI) from 1994 to 2011. Key words used within the search were 'insomnia' and 'scalp acupuncture'. Results : 19 studies were selected. 9 RCTs and 2 case control studies showed that scalp acupuncture therapy reported better results than routine acupuncture, western medicine, and herbal medicine therapy. 8 case reports described a significant improvement in patients with insomnia by scalp acupuncture. Conclusions : There have been many studies regarding scalp acupuncture on patients with insomnia in China and these studies can be applied to clinical practices within Korea.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to obtain some knowledge about the scalp acupuncture treatment on Parkinson's disease for the future practice and the research from the clinical studies in China. Methods : The literatures were searched using the database-China Academic Journals(CAJ) (2006-2011). Clinical studies of scalp acupuncture for Parkinson's disease-Randomized controlled trial(RCT), case control study, case series, case report- were included. Results : Of 65 articles, 12 Clinical studies met our inclusion criteria. Three case series reported a significant improvement in the patients with Parkinson's disease by scalp acupuncture, and 9 RCTs reported a significant effectiveness of scalp acupuncture as a monotherapy or as a combination therapy with Madopa Tablet(Levodopa + Benserazide HCl) treatment. Conclusions : The results of this study could be used for the future study about scalp acupuncture for Parkinson's disease.

Background: Scalp seborrheic dermatitis is a common disease characterized by flaking and itching of the scalp. Conventional treatment options, such as the use of topical corticosteroids and antifungal agents, may cause adverse effects and reduce user satisfaction rates; thus, it is important to explore other treatment options for scalp seborrheic dermatitis. Objective: We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a new-formula shampoo containing natural ingredients, including the extract of Rosa centifolia petals, epigallocatechin gallate, zinc pyrithione, and climbazole. Methods: A total of 50 patients with scalp seborrheic dermatitis were enrolled and divided into two groups: the new-formula shampoo-treated group and the 1.5% ciclopirox olamine shampoo-treated group. Clinical severity scores, sebum secretion, and inflammatory cytokines were assessed. In addition, patient satisfaction and adverse events were assessed using a questionnaire. Results: The new-formula shampoo was comparable with ciclopirox in reducing the clinical severity scores and sebum secretion. Patients' improvement scores and user satisfaction rates were higher in the new-formula shampoo group than in the 1.5% ciclopirox olamine shampoo-treated group. The inflammatory cytokine levels considerably changed in both groups during the course of the study. Conclusion: Thus, the new-formula shampoo can be considered a treatment option for patients with scalp seborrheic dermatitis.

Objectives : To report one case of semi-coma patient was treated by scalp acupuncture with electric stimulation. Methods : Patient (state of semi-coma) was treated by scalp acupuncture with electric stimulation, herbal medication and physical therapy. The improvement of patient was measured every other week by Glasgow Coma Scale(GCS), Modified Bathel Index(MBI), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS). Results : We observed the patient decrease in NIHSS score and increase in GCS and MBI. Symptoms of patient such as semi-coma were improved following the treatment. Conclusions : It is suggested that oriental medical treatment; scalp acupuncture with electric stimulation, herbal medication and physical therapy were effective in semi-coma caused by traumatic brain injury.

This study examines the role of six species of microalgae, including Phaeodacylum tricrnutum (PT), Chaetoceros gracilis (CG), Nanochloris oculata (NO), Pavlova lutheri (PL), Chlorella ellipsoidae (CE), and Scendedemus obliquus (SO), on hair loss prevention and scalp improvement. To determine the effects of microalgae extracts on hair loss prevention and scalp improvement, antioxidant activity, cell proliferation in HaCaT cells and HFDPC cells, and the inhibition level of 5-alpha reductase activity were examined. In the study of antioxidant activity, the $EC_{50}$ values of DPPH anti-radical activities indicated that the SO, CG, and ST9 treatment groups demonstrate significant antioxidant activity. In the study of the hydroxyl radical scavenging activity, CG (6.6~42.1%), ST9 (26.0~44.0%), and SO (7.8~44.3%) demonstrated significant effects. Furthermore, SO promoted the proliferation of HaCaT cells and a human epidermal cell line during a 6-day treatment. In the study of the proliferation of HFDPC cells, a hair follicle dermal papilla cell line, CG, and SO significantly stimulated cell proliferation. Finally, PT, CG, and SO significantly inhibited 5-alpha reductase activity. These results suggest that among the six microalgae used in this study, CG and SO have antioxidant effects, induce cell proliferation, inhibit 5-alpha reductase activity, and can be used for hair loss prevention and scalp improvement.
