Due to the severe damages, it is very difficult to fathom out the original shape of the armor of Seong-ryong Ryu(1542-1607) right now. Ryu was a distinguished scholar official of his period, and his remaining armor has been designated as a National Treasure No. 460. This is a study of the types of the used scales, their positions used, the methods of their connections, and their hemmings, to figure out the original process of producing the armor. Based upon the research results, the remaining pieces of the armor are restored according to the discovered contemporary procedure of the armor. Then hypotheses are proposed for the three kinds of armor made up of long pieces, and three kinds of the armor of short pieces, and problems of the proposed hypotheses are considered for further studies. Hopefully this kind of approach shall serve as a ground stone for the better restorations of the scale armors of Joseon period in the future.
The study researched the characteristic of helmet and armor reflecting Joseon Dynasty by focusing on the helmet and armor appearing in dramas, the Tear of Dragon and King Sejong, whose common point is the historical background, the early Joseon Dynasty, among the historical dramas, which are manufactured on the basis of historical person or age. First, the helmet and armor appearing in historical drama was reproduced on the basis of historical record depending on age. In the early Joseon Dynasty, helmet was classified into cheomju and wonju and armor was classified into chalgap, swaejagap, gyeongbeongap, dujeonggap and dudumigap. In drama, the Tear of Dragon and King Sejong, for helmet, cheomju and wonju were used and for armor, chalgap, dujeonggap and dudumigap, whose type and manufacture method were similar to that of historical record, were reproduced. Second, the helmet and armor appearing in historical drama searched for function. In drama, the Tear of Dragon, rather than heavy iron, plastic and textile were used and the metal scale inside armor was removed. In drama, King Sejong, the weight of armor was decreased by removing the metal scale inside armor and easy wearing was secured by using velcro. Third, the helmet and armor appearing in historical drama expressed various dramatic interpretations. In drama, the Tear of Dragon, the same color as that of armor was adopted for helmet to provide stable and unified feeling. Visually splendid display was added to armor by matching powerful prime color and glossy metal. In drama, King Sejong, modem sense was added to helmet and armor by actively using pastel color reflecting modem fashion.

For a design of multi-layer armor, the extensive full scale or sub-scale penetration test data are required. In generally, the collection of penetration data is in need of time-consuming and expensive processes. However, the application of numerical or analytical method is very limited due to poor understanding about penetration mechanics. In this paper, we have developed a neural network analyzer which can be used as a design tool for a new armor. Calculation results show that the developed neural network analyzer can predict relatively exact penetration depth of a new armor through the effective analysis of the pre-existing penetration database.
The National Museum of Korea conducted conservation treatmenton the armor in its collection for the purposes of public display and appropriate preservation. This was preceded by a literature study on the types and features of the armor in order to collect basic data for secure and accurate conservation treatment. The literature study found that during the Joseon dynasty, armor was named in reflection of precise details including the color, material, status of the wearer, and even the certain parts of a suit of armor. In general, the name of armor includes the details in the order of color, underlying textile, and scale material (e.g., iron, leather). The former part of the name presents the features of the garment and the latter part refers to the material of the scales or the status of the wearer. The study also found that main materials used in armor include textiles, leather, and metal, and armor can be classified by the materials of the scales-e.g., metal armor (鐵甲), leather armor (皮甲), paper armor (紙甲), paper-and-fabric armor (淹心甲), silk armor (緞甲). Joseon-period armor can also be classified into four types according to its structure and the method of wearing, and overcoat(袍)-style armor was the most widely used in the period following the Japanese Invasion of Joseon (1592-1598) through the late nineteenth~early twentieth century. Overcoat-style armor was commonly worn by infantry, and the four examples of armor with leather scales at the National Museum of Korea belong to this category.

A scale Armor is usually excavated in a scattered form weakened by corrosion after its burial. Therefore, they should be brought into the indoor in a safe environment for the on-site conservation treatment as it was excavated. They should be placed on a stable support with a reinforced base in the indoor treatment. In this process, the bottom surface which can not be observed after the conservation treatment is placed for a record by actual survey and photography. But this method had a limit on figuring out the whole aspects of the artifact. For compensating the defect, duplication of the artifact was considered as an alternative method for the previous two methods in the case of conservation of the scale Armor from Jinyoung 2-Area, Gimhae. Neck guard was excavated in a distorted form by the earth pressure, and was hard to recognize the original shape. However, whole real material of its original form was secured through the combination of each duplicated lamellae. Throughout the application of the duplication technique in the process of conservation of scale Armor and neck guard, it could secure the real material of the bottom surface and elevate the understanding of the artifact. Moreover, a constitution of the armor could be identified more effectively.

A Monte-Carlo simulation method is proposed which can take uncertainties of scale and location parameters of Gumbel distribution into account straightforwardly in evaluating significant design wave heights with respect to return periods. The uncertainties of design wave heights may directly depend on the amounts of uncertainties of scale parameter and those distributions may be followed by Gumbel distribution. In case of that the expected values of maximum significant wave height during lifetime of structures are considered to be the design wave heights, more uncertainties are happened than in those evaluated according to return periods with encounter probability concepts. In addition, reliability analyses on the armor units are carried out to investigate into the effects of the uncertainties of design wave heights on the probability of failure. The failure probabilities of armor units to 5% damage level for 50 return periods are evaluated and compared according to the methods of taking uncertainties of design wave heights into account. It is found that the probabilities of failure may be distributed into wide ranges of bounds when the uncertainties of design wave heights are assumed to be same as those of annual maximum significant wave heights.

Tungsten and tungsten heavy alloys have widespread application as radiation shielding devices and heavy duty electrical contacts. High density and good room temperature mechanical properties have generated interest in evaluating tungsten and tungsten alloys as kinetic energy penetrators against armor. Nowdays ultra fine-grained tungsten powders are in great interest because higly dense structures can be obtained at low temperature, pressure and lower sintering time. Several physical md chemical methods are available for the synthesis of nanometric metal Powders: ball milling, laser abalation, vapor condensation, chemical precipitation, metallic wire explosion i.e. However production rates of the above mentioned methods are low and further efforts are needed to find out large-scale synthesis methods. From this point of view solid state combustion method ( known as SHS) represents undoubted interest.

A discounted cost model for preventive maintenance of armor units of rubble-mound breakwaters is mathematically derived by combining the deterioration model based on a discrete-time stochastic process of shock occurrence with the cost model of renewal process together. The discounted cost model of condition-based maintenance proposed in this paper can take into account the nonlinearity of cumulative damage process as well as the discounting effect of cost. By comparing the present results with the previous other results, the verification is carried out satisfactorily. In addition, it is known from the sensitivity analysis on variables related to the model that the more often preventive maintenance should be implemented, the more crucial the level of importance of system is. However, the tendency is shown in reverse as the interest rate is increased. Meanwhile, the present model has been applied to the armor units of rubble-mound breakwaters. The parameters of damage intensity function have been estimated through the time-dependent prediction of the expected cumulative damage level obtained from the sample path method. In particular, it is confirmed that the shock occurrences can be considered to be a discrete-time stochastic process by investigating the effects of uncertainty of the shock occurrences on the expected cumulative damage level with homogeneous Poisson process and doubly stochastic Poisson process that are the continuous-time stochastic processes. It can be also seen that the stochastic process of cumulative damage would depend directly on the design conditions, thus the preventive maintenance would be varied due to those. Finally, the optimal periods and scale for the preventive maintenance of armor units of rubble-mound breakwaters can be quantitatively determined with the failure limits, the levels of importance of structure, and the interest rates.
One of the representative local cultures in Gyeongnam is Gaya culture. This research aim s to develop fashion cultural goods design applying Gaya relics. Based on the study on cu ltural character, formative characteristics of relics, and questionnaire survey on cultural reco gnition and fashion cultural goods purchasing status of Gaya, the plan of Gaya fashion cul tural goods design was made and progressed. To develop design pattern, TexPro Design CAD was used. As to selection of relics to extract motif, Mounted vessel in the shape of warrior on horseback, Chariot wheel-shaped Pottery, Armor and Shield were selected. The main concept of design was 'Timeless Images of Gaya' to re-illuminate a long forgotten p eriod of Gaya, and to create modernization image of ancient period into modern living. By using oring image scale of IRI C or Lab, the 4 main themes of 'Timeless Images of Gaya' including 'Romantic Gaya', 'Dynamic Gaya', 'E -friendly Gaya', 'Modern Gaya' were constructed. According to the 4 themes, basic pattern, repeating pattern, application patter n were developed. And applied cases were developed to seek reality of design in the fashi on cultural goods. Also web page was constructed to develop educational and industrial accessibility and utilization in collaboration with design patterns and fashion cultural goods ap plying cases.
