  • This study explores the effects of rural migrant characteristics and conjugal communication on life satisfaction of baby boomer rural migrants. A total of 205 Korean baby boomers, who are living in rural areas in the year of 2013 that had migrated from cities back in 2003 with their families, were analyzed. Their age ranged from 49 to 57 years. The statistical methods used for data analysis were descriptive statistics, t-test, and hierarchical regression analysis, with SPSS Win 20.0 program. The results of this study are summarized as follows: the reasons these baby boomers chose a rural lifestyle were 'for life after retirement,' 'because rural life is good,' 'for health reasons,' and 'for chosen profession.' The level of conjugal communication (M=3.69) and life satisfaction (M=3.23) were higher than average (M=3.0). The variables influencing life satisfaction of baby boomer rural migrants were 'increased property size,' 'better conjugal communication,' 'better health condition,' 'lower levels of money,' and 'length of time spent farming.' Furthermore, in terms of life satisfaction, the relative contributions of these variables are as follows: general characteristics 20%, rural migrant characteristics 10%, and the level of conjugal communication 6%. These results show that conjugal communication is a very important variable, as well as a rural migrant characteristic when it comes to life satisfaction of these baby boomers. Therefore, to improve life satisfaction of baby boomer rural migrants, support programs need to focus on both farming and conjugal relationships.

  • This study aims to analyze multiple mediating effects of asset and self-esteem on the relationship between disability of household head and life satisfaction. This study used 9th panel data of KoWePS(Korean Welfare Panel Study) and employed path analysis with A-MOS. Research findings of this study are as follows: First, disability of household head had a negative effect on life satisfaction, total assets, and self-esteem. Second, we found not full but partial mediating effects of assets on the relationship between disability and life satisfaction. Third, similarly we found not full but partial mediating effects of self-esteem on the relationship between disability and life satisfaction. Finally, we found multiple partial mediating effects of assets and self-esteem on the relationships between disability and life satisfaction. The findings of this study suggest that financial education as well as asset management targeting persons with disability are necessary and very helpful to sustain their life satisfaction. In addition, we need to think about asset-building programs targeting persons with disability.

  • In this study, using KLoSA data, it was verified whether subjective expectations and depression had a multi-mediated effect on life satisfaction of the elderly with dementia and mild cognitive impairment. As a result of the analysis, first, it was analyzed that the higher the IADL of the elderly with dementia and mild cognitive impairment, the lower the subjective expectation, the higher the depression, and the lower the life satisfaction. Second, it was analyzed that as the subjective expectations of the elderly with dementia and mild cognitive impairment increased, depression decreased and life satisfaction increased. Third, it was analyzed that IADL in the elderly with dementia and mild cognitive impairment not only directly affects life satisfaction, but also indirectly affects life satisfaction through subjective expectations and depression, so it has a multi-mediated effect. Therefore, it is necessary to expand subjective expectations by expanding service providers that can support daily life restrictions for the elderly with dementia and mild cognitive impairment, providing regular programs by experts to reduce depression, and establishing new national pension benefits for dependents.

For these purposes the 1993 KHPS data was used. The sample in this study consisted of 2,796 couple households. Satistics employed for the analysis were frequencies means and logistic regression analysis. As the number of children and the children's age increased the housing consumption increased. There were many factors such as husband's education satisfaction of health and family relations monthly income wealth debt owning a car home ownership duration of residence and the satisfaction with housing contributing to housing consumption and propensity to move. • Purpose: This study was designed to construct and test a structural equation model for life satisfaction in grandmothers who were parenting grandchildren Methods: Grandmothers assuming part-time parenting responsibilities for grandchildren were recruited in four cities in South Korea. They were asked to complete a questionnaire through face to face interviews or self reports, and 248 data units were analyzed with Structural Equation Modeling. Results: Model fit indices for the final model revealed a fit at an excellent level, and all of the 12 paths were statistically significant explaining 51% of the variance. Predictors of life satisfaction in the final model were parenting efficacy, perceived health status, parenting stress, amount of parenting, and demographic factors. The new findings of this study were as follows: First, the satisfaction with life of part-time parenting grandmothers was less than that of non-parenting grandmothers. Second, parenting stress and parenting efficacy revealed determinants to life satisfaction. Third, motivation of parenting and amount of parenting affect both parenting stress and parenting efficacy. Conclusion: The value of parenting and the grandmother-adult children relationship quality should also be considered in developing a grandmothers' educational program, because these are the factors which strengthen parenting efficacy and alleviate parenting stress.
