  • With the exhibition materials and exhibition spaces are provided, it is the reaction of the visitors that completes the function of science museum. To satisfy the visitors, it is necessary to understand their needs, interests, and motives, apart from the physical environment of the museum. The purpose of this research is to verify the effect of children's personal characteristics on the satisfaction in science museum. In doing so, an interview survey was conducted: 210 primary and middle school students who had finished the exhibition tour were randomly selected and interviewed. The data was analysed by a T-test and an one-way ANOVA to find out the correlation. The results of analysis are as follows: First, a meaningful statistical differences are found by the age groups in terms of motivation, expectation, satisfaction, enjoyment, and total staying time at the museum. The lower the grade, students are satisfied with their everyday living; and this is reflected on their intrinsic motivations and higher expectations on visit. Also, their actual satisfaction and enjoyment are higher and they stay at the museum longer than the other group. Second, the group with intrinsic motivation and higher expectation is more satisfied with the contents of the exhibition than the group with extrinsic motivation. Third, the level of higher education of mothers, rather than that of fathers had mere effect on the learning of the children at the museum. Also, the children who are brought up by full-time house wives have bigger achievement of learning from the exhibition than those with working mothers.

  • The purpose of this study is to draw safe environmental project factors for enhancing the safety of children in peripheral space around children's park and suggest environmental project measures for peripheral spaces around children's parks, based on the survey of children's park users' consciousness on peripheral spaces. Physical space range for this study was limited to low-rise housing area wihtin the radius of 250m, as peripheral spaces around children's parks in which children's playgrounds were built. In addition, the target areas for examining users' consciousness on peripheral spaces around children's parks were selected according to following criteria. 1)areas with highter portion of children; 2) those with higher portion of single-family houses/multi-housing/tenement houses, which constitute low-rise housing areas; and 3) those with higher safety accident rate of children, which was measured based on criminal and traffic accidents. The finding are as follows: first, users' consciousness on safety accidents that are likely to occur in peripheral spaces around children's parks was examined to show that there is most prominent difference between satisfaction and necessity. This result suggests that users are clearly conscious of the necessity of environmental improvement rather than the satisfaction with the current peripheral environment around children's park.; second, for the difference between satisfaction with and necessity of environmental project factors for access/boundary spaces around children's pakrs, there is most significant difference between the satisfaction with and the necessity of establishment of facilities against illegal parking for clear visibility of community roads, for access spaces, and the separate establishment of bicycle racks around main entry into parks, for boundary spaces. Users' necessity of the establishment of them is judged to be derived from the fact that the safety of children and even adults is threatened, because bicycles invaded into the deep inside of children parks. This study analyzed a correlation between satisfaction and necessity through factor and IPA analysis, and should be initially considenred if the future environmental improvement project would be conducted to promote safe environment in peripheral spaces around children's parks in the future. It will be necessary to provide practical environmental project factors through a field investigation.

  • This study investigated the pathways of factors affecting 173 employed mothers' second childbirth plans. Participants were all employed working mothers with an infant under 10 months old. The hypothetical model used in this research proposed that workplace childcare support, social support, value of children and parenting stress of employed mothers will directly affect second childbirth plans. Additionally, workplace childcare support, social support, value of children, marital satisfaction and job satisfaction will indirectly influence second childbirth plans as a result of parenting stress. The results of this research demonstrated that value of children and parenting stress were the factors which directly affected second childbirth plans of employed mothers. In addition, workplace childcare support, social support, marital satisfaction and job satisfaction indirectly influenced second childbirth plans as a result of parenting stress. This study suggests the need for the establishment and development of workplace childcare support and the need for enhancing the value of children. This research further suggests the need for policies aimed at increasing psychological well-being and decreasing parenting stress for working mothers who are contemplating second childbirth plans.
