The Effects of Decision-Making Power of the Elderly to Home Management on the Life Satisfaction (가정경영에 대한 노인의 의사결정관이 생활만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate relations of decision-making power of the elderly to home management and life satisfaction by applying a social behavior theory and exchange theory and to find out the device which improve the elderly life satisfaction at the home management view. For these research tasks the data was collected through the questionaire and interview those respondents were 273 woman elderly living with one of their married children in Seoul. It was analyzed by various statistical methods such as Frequency Percentile ANOVA F-test t-test Pearson's Corrdlation Analysis Multiple Regression Analysis. The results of this study are as follows: 1) Decision-making power of the elderly to home management had significant differences according to all of th variables except for religion job status of the elderly and education income of the children. 2) Decision-making power of the elderly to home management had the significant differences according to the variable such as income of the elderly solidarity between the elderly and their adult children age of the elderly The most influencial factor was income of the elderly. 3) Elderly life satisfaction had significant differenced according to all of the variables except for age job status of the elderly and education income of the children inmate children 4) In the result of analyzing the elderly life satisfaction the most influencial factor was decision-making power to home management and the explanary power to home management and the explanary power of those variables for the elderly life satisfaction was 56.2%.

  • This study examined effects of emotional intelligence and satisfaction of school life on the social competence of institutional children. Data were collected from institutional children of 300 10-12 year old and questionnaire measures were employed. Data were analyzed by t-test, pearson's correlation and multiple regression analyses. Relationships were found between emotional intelligence and social competence as well as satisfaction of school life and social competence. Components of emotional intelligence and satisfaction of school life that predicted social competence were emotional facilitation of thinking and personal relationship between friends. Degree of personal relationship between friends was the most powerful predictor of institutional children's social competence.

Exploring Relationships between Life Satisfaction and Patterns of Support Exchange of the Elderly Living Alone and Their Children in Metropolitan City in Japan (일본 대도시 독거노인의 자녀와의 지원교환형태에 따른 생활만족도)

  • The present study identified the patterns of support exchange between the elderly living alone and their children in a metropolitan city in Japan and examined the relationships between the patterns of support exchange and their life satisfaction. The sample was collected from 1,020 the elderly living alone in Osaka city selected with random sampling method. The questionnaires were mailed to the respondents, who were asked to send them back. The response rate was 51.7%(n = 526). We used 371 sample of respondents who have children. The results indicated that:(1)the patterns of support exchange were different by the types of social support, (2)the life satisfaction of the elderly who had an appropriate balance of a support exchange pattern was significantly higher than the life satisfaction of those who had low support exchange or only provided supports to their children. The findings imply that an appropriate balance of support exchange between the elderly living alone and their children was crucial in improving life satisfaction of the elderly living alone.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest of facilities improvement and plan at children shelters. To this purpose, the researcher visited and interviewed users of three children shelters. To achieve a concrete goal of the study, (1) property room size per admitted children, (2) space satisfaction as bedroom, living room in a establishment, (3) facilities satisfaction as corridor, sanitation fixture. furniture (4) environment satisfaction as electricity, cooling and heating, ventilation, (5) exterior satisfaction as building image, color, landscape was analysed by interviewing. Based on the results of the analysis, a improvement for children shelters was presented.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the types of the stress and coping behaviors perceived by mothers of children with disabilities, and to investigate factors affecting their life satisfaction. For this study, we surveyed 239 mothers living in the city. The results are as follows: First, we can categorize the stress into parental stress, economic stress, child developmental stress, physical stress, and emotional stress. Second, we can classify the coping behaviors into active efforts, avoidance, and emotional diversion. Lastly, life satisfaction of mothers of children with disabilities tends to depend on such factors as emotional stress, husband's support, parental stress, emotional diversion coping, economic stress, school- children, and their education.

Family Life Events, Social Support, Support from Children, and Life Satisfaction of the Low-Income Female Earners (저소득층 여성가장의 가족생활사건, 사회적 지원, 자녀의 지원과 생활만족도)

  • This study was on low-income female earners, and focused on family life events, social support, and support from children which low-income female easers had experienced. It also examined how family life events, social support, and support from the children affected the level of life satisfaction of the low-income age in the Seoul metropolitan area. The analysis of the data showed the following results: 1. The low-income female roamers experienced finance and business strains more than other family life events. The significant family life events that affected their life satisfaction were intra-family strains, finance and business stains, and illness and family care stains. 2. The level of social support was average. The low-income female earners reported that their relatives had provided the largest amount of support among their social network; however, only support from their friends affected their life satisfaction. Emotional support was the common support type which low-income female easers had received. 3. The perceived level of support from children was high, and it was the most significant variable that affected the life satisfaction of the low-income female eamers.

The Effect of Ego Strength and School Adjustment on the Life Satisfaction of School-Aged Children (자아강도와 학교 적응이 학령기 아동의 생활만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted in order to model the relationship between children's ego strength and their school adjustment and life satisfaction levels. For this purpose, 4,765 4th-6th grade elementary school children were surveyed by means of a questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed by means of structural equation modeling. The results of this study may be summarized as follows. First, in all the grades, a significant and positive correlation was observed between the children's ego strength and their school adjustment and life satisfaction levels. Second, ego strength was found to be a variable that had a significant effect on life satisfaction indirectly through the medium of school adjustment. Third, the relation model between the variables differed according to grade. That is, the direct effect of ego strength on life satisfaction was stronger in the high grades, and the level of school relationship adjustment was found to have a significant effect on family relationship satisfaction as a factor of life satisfaction in 4th graders, whereas it did not in the case of 5th and 6th graders.

Effect of Parental Attachment on Children's Life Satisfaction : Mediating Effect of Ego Resilience (부모애착이 아동의 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향 : 자아탄력성의 매개효과)

  • This study examines the effect of parental attachment on children's life satisfaction based on the relationship between parent attachment, life satisfaction, and ego resilience for children (5th grade elementary school). The purpose is to find out if it mediates the relationship. For this reason, data from the 12th year (2019) of the Korean Children's Panel of the Research Institute for Parenting Policy were used. In the 12th year data, most of the panel children who participated so far went on to the 5th grade of elementary school and became the upper grade of elementary school, so the variables were modified and expanded to reflect the developmental characteristics of the panel children. Data from 1,171 people who responded to all of parental attachment, ego resilience, and life satisfaction among the 1,600 currently maintained sample of 2,150 households in the Korean Children's Panel were analyzed. As a result of this study, first, parental attachment was found to have a positive effect on children's life satisfaction. Second, parental attachment was found to have a positive effect on ego resilience. Third, it was found that ego resilience mediates the relationship between parental attachment and children's life satisfaction. Therefore, this study intends to examine the relationship between parental attachment and life satisfaction in detail through ego resilience. Through this, it is intended to prepare an in-depth academic understanding and action plan for changes in children's life satisfaction.

Effect of obesity on the Satisfaction with School Lunches and the Behavior of Leaving Lunch Food in Elementary School Children (경기지역 일부 초등학생의 비만도에 따른 급식 만족도 및 급식을 남기는 행동에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of obesity on the satisfaction with school lunches and school lunch leftovers of elementary school children in the Kyeonggi area. The study was carried out on 235 children(male : 111, female :124) in December of 2000. The results are summarized as follows. A Rohrer index was used to define obesity. The proportions of severe underweight, underweight, normal, overweight, and obese were 0.9%, 16.6%, 57.9%,17.0%, and 7.7% respectively. For the data analysis, the subjects were divided into 3 groups : an underweight group(Rohrer index 109 including severe underweight), a normal group(Rohrer index 110-140), and an obese group(Rohrer index 141 including overweight). With regard to the satisfaction with school lunches, the proportions of children who were satisfied, neutral, and unsatisfied were 27.2%, 59.6% and 13.2% respectively. The proportion of the satisfaction with school lunches was significantly higher in the male group than in the female group(p〈0.05), and the proportion of the dissatisfaction with school lunches was significantly increased with obesity index(p〈0.05). The largest proportion of children who were satisfied with school lunches answered they felt hungry(56.3%) and the food tasted good(42.2%). Children sho were not satisfied with school lunches answered that the food was not tasty(93.5%), they did not have ant appetite(9.7%), and others. The children not finishing school lunches(leftovers) occasionally or always were 47.7% of the subjects. The behavior of leaving lunch foods was not significantly related to the gender or the frequency of eating snacks, wile it was positively related with dissatisfaction with school lunches(p〈0.01), obesity index(p〈0.05), and the decreased frequency of eating meals per day(p〈0.01). The reasons of school lunch leftovers were food dislikes(67.9%), excess of quantity(39.3%), tastelessness(31.3%), poor appetite(13.4%), and other. The children eating meals twice, 3 times, and 4 times per day were 18.7%, 74.9%, and 6.4% of the subjects respectively. The proportions of the obese and the satisfaction with school lunches were not changed significantly according to the frequency of eating meals, while the proportion of children leaving school lunches was significantly higher in the group of eating meals twice per day than in the other groups(p〈0.01). The frequency of eating snacks was not related to the obesity index, the proportion of school lunch leftovers, or the frequency of eating meals, while the proportion of satisfaction with school lunches was significantly higher in the group of eating snacks 1-2 times per day than in the other groups(p〈0.01). In conclusion, it is necessary to have children enjoy school lunches with efforts to improve the food´s taste in the school food services and to reexamine the serving sizes for the children, in addition to the nutrition education for the children to eat a variety of foods.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate children's satisfaction with baps, soups, pot stews, one course dishes, and kimchies provided by elementary school lunch program in Seoul area. Two hundred and thirty two children enrolled in 3 different elementary schools participated In this study through a questionnaire developed by the researchers. Conclusions drawn from the results of this study are 1) children seemed to be generally satisfied with foods provided by school lunch program : 2) it is necessary for children to control amount of food and salt and/or hot peppers depending upon their own preference; and 3) appropriate temperature of each food should be maintained by using thermos pots, and the shape of dining board needs to be improved for younger children's convenience.
