Objective of this study was to investigate the influences of harvest index and percolation water quality as irrigated the discharge waters from an industrial and a municipal wastewater treatment plants and seawater (1:5 seawater: tap water) as alternative water resources during tillering stage for drought stress. There were four different treatments such as the discharge water from an industrial (textile dyeing manufacture plant) wastewater treatment plant (DIWT), discharge water from the municipal wastewater treatment plant (DMWT), seawater (1:5) and groundwater as a control. For the initial chemical compositions of alternative waters, it appeared that higher concentrations of COD, $Mn^{2+}$, and $Ni^+$ in DIWT were observed than reused criteria of other country for irrigation, and concentrations of $EC_i$, Cl, and $SO_4$ in seawater were higher than that for irrigation. Harvest index was not significantly different between DIWT and DMWT with different irrigation periods in two soil types, but that of seawater (1:5) is decreased with irrigation periods in clay loam soil and not different between 10 days and 20 days of irrigation periods in sandy loam soil. For percolation water qualities, values of sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) are increased with prolonging the irrigation periods of seawater (1:5) and DIWT, but those of DMWT were almost constant through the cultivation periods regardless of the irrigation period in both soil types. EG of percolation waters is eventually increased with prolonging days after irrigation regardless of irrigation periods in both soil types. Therefore, it might be concluded that there was potentially safe to irrigate the discharge water from municipal wastewater treatment plant relative to harvest index, SAR and $EC_i$ values of the ground water through the rice cultivation period at tillering stage for drought period.
To investigate the germanium content in paddy soil in Gyeongnam province, 310 paddy soil samples were collected at 19 areas in Gyeongnam, Ulsan and Busan. Contents of germanium in paddy soils were analyzed in different topographies, soil types and soil textures. Average content of germanium in Gyeongnam was 0.24 mr/kg, those of Masan, Jinju and Hadong were above 0.30 mg/kg. Germanium content with different topographies were no difference. Germanium contents in different soil types were 0.27 mg/kg in well adapted soil and 0.23 mg/kg in poorly drained soil. Germanium contents in different soil textures were 0.27 mg/kg in silt loam and 0.23 mg/kg in sandy loam. To determine germanium content on agricultural product in the field, content of germanium in cereals, vegetables and fruits were analyzed. Germanium content of agricultural product was high in the order of cereals>vegetables>fruits. In case of vegetables, germanium contents were high in the order of leaf vegetables>root vegetables>fruit vegetables. Germanium contents were high with 62 and $65{\mu}g/kg$ in lettuce and young radish, respectively. To analyze the germanium content in medicinal plant, samples were collected from 19 medicinal plants at Hamyang areas. Germanium contents in Angelica keiskei, Ligusticum chuanxiong, Panax ginseng and Atractylodes macrocephala were relatively high with $100{\mu}g/kg$ above.
The present study was to survey the site environment, vegetation structure and soil characteristics in the wild habitats of Wikstroemia ganpi in Goheung, Busan and Ulsan, and offers basic information for habitat conservation and restoration. Most of the wild habitats were located at altitudes between 28~242m with inclinations ranged as $0{\sim}40^{\circ}$. The canopy openness was 57.56%. The vegetation structure by the PC-ORD based on the Two Way Cluster Analysis were divided into three groups Community I(Castanea crenata-Pinus densiflora), Community II(Quercus dentata-Pinus thunbergii) and Community III (Pinus thunbergii). The species diversity was 1.3650, and evenness and dominance were found recorded as 0.8666 and 0.1333, respectively. The soil textures were silty loam and sandy loam. The average soil pH was 5.5, electric conductivity was 0.15dS/m, soil organic matter was 2.60% and available phosphorus was 4mg $kg^{-1}$. Correlation coefficients based on environmental factors, vegetation and soil analysis were showed that positive correlations between species diversity and evenness, organic matter and total nitrogen, whereas species slop degree and coverage of herb, diversity and dominance were showed negative correlations.
This experiment was carried out to estimate leaching potential of thirteen endocrine disruptor-suspected pesticides in upland soils using soil columns (5 cm I.D. ${\times}$ 35 cm H.) packed with soil A (sandy loam) and soil B (loam). When 12.6 mL of water, average precipitation in Cheongju area during the period from June to August, 2001-2010, was percolated through soil column packed with soil A every day for 21 days, no pesticides were detected from leachate, with the exception of metribuzin which was detected with negligible. Also, when 2 L of water was percolated consecutively five times through soil columns packed with soil A and B, irrespective of soil types, cypermethrin, endosulfan, fenvalerate, parathion and trifluralin, which were very low water solubilities and high soil $K_{oc}s$, were not detected from leachate and were distributed mostly in the depth of 0-5 cm, representing that water solubility and soil $K_{oc}$ are major contributing factors to their leaching behavior. Despite high average leaching rates in carbaryl and methomyl, actual possibilities of ground water contamination in the agricultural environment by them would be very low, considering that the negligible amount of pesticide was percolated through a lysimeter with an undisturbed soil core simulating the field conditions, while most of pesticide was percolated through a soil column with the disturbed soil profile.
This study was conducted to investigate the influence of treatment of fly ash on heavy metal contents of the arable soil. Rice was cultivated on the two types of paddy field clay loam and sandy loam with 0, 12ton/10a of anthracite fly ash and bituminous coal fly ash application. And soybean was cultivated at the same type of upland fields with those ashes of 0, 9ton/10a, yearly for three years. At the harvest time, the heavy metal contents in the different layer were investigated. The results were summarized as follows : 1. The contents of some heavy metal were increased in the surface soils but didn't show the tendency in the deeper layer or soil texture. 2. In the paddy fields, the contents of Cd, Cu, Zn, Cr were increased. Meanwhile and the upland fields, the contents of Cd and Cr were increased with the successive application of Anthracite fly ash, but the others didn't show those tendency. 3. The contents of Cd, Cu and Zn in the paddy field, were increased but the upland field, the contents of Cd, Cr and Ni were increased by the successive application of bituminous coal fly ash.
This study was carried out to investigate flora and vegetation in cutting slope along a construction age sequence (2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012) of forest roads in Yongchiri, Younghyunmyon, Sacheonshi, Geyongsangnamdo. Mean slopes of the cutting and banking slopes of forest roads constructed were ranged from $42^{\circ}$ to $54^{\circ}$. Soil texture in the cutting and banking sides of forest roads constructed in 2012 was loam, while sandy loam in the cutting and banking slopes of forest roads constructed between 2007 and 2011. Vegetation cover percentage was higher in the banking slopes (66%) than the cutting slopes (49%) of forest roads. Total flora were higher in the banking slopes (50 species) than the cutting slopes (46 species) of forest roads. Species diversity was generally higher in the banking slopes than in the cutting slopes in all forest roads. In addition, the species diversity index was the highest in the cutting slopes (1.4015) of forest roads constructed in 2011, while the highest in the banking slopes (1.5603) of forest roads constructed in 2012. The results indicate that evenness index in the cutting and banking slopes of recent construction roads was high compared with old construction roads because of the distribution of simple plant species.

The objective of this study was to find out the relationships between the vertical distribution of heavy metals in paddy soils and some soil characteristics. One hundred eight soil samples were collected by soil depths from 27 points of paddy fields in the vicinity of lead-zinc mining sites, and heavy metal contents and the physico-chemical characteristics of the soils were analysed. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1) Distribution of heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn and As) by soil depths were ranged 42-51% in 0- 15 cm, 21-29% in 15- 30 cm, 12- 17% in 30-60 cm and 11-14% in 6o-100 cm. 2) The distribution of As by soil depth showed clear difference between sandy loam and loam, while that of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn did not show any difference between these textures. 3) Distribution of Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn and As by different soil depths showed significantly negative correlation with soil pH value but they showed significantly positive correlation with soil organic matter content. 4) Cadmium, copper, lead, and zinc in soil had tendency to be highly correlated in each soil depth. Especially, high correlation was shown at the depth of 0- 15 cm, 30-60 cm and 60-100 cm for Pb and Zn, and 0-15 cm for Cd and Zn. Arsenic in soil was not correlated with these heavy metals.

This study was desinged to find out the effects of soil physical properties on root development of barley. Barley fields were selected in consideration of drainage class and texture. Soil hardness were measured at the field. Soil bulk density, air ratio and root distribution were obtained from the core samples. 1. The amount of roots were increased and the root were distributed deeper layers with better drainage class and finer soil texture. 2. Soil hardness was related to soil bulk density, and the regression coefficient was increased with clay content (Clay ; $r=0.837^{**}$, Clay loam ; $r=0.678^*$, and Sandy loam ; $r=0.654^*$). 3. There was a highly negative correlation ($r=-0,846^{**}$) between bulk density of subsoils and amount of roots and the root developments were markedly reduced in soil bulk density of $1.4g/cm^3$. 4. Bulk density of subsoils was decreased with worse soil drainage and finer texture. Especially, in case of clayey soil at imperfectly or moderately drained soils, the air phase was less than 20% and the barley growth was worse. 5. Root development were related to hardness in surface, bulk density and ok phase in 10-30cm layer, and air phase in 30-50cm layer.
Objective of this study was to evaluate the adaptation and the soil conservation effect of improved wild vine in sloped upland of highland about 600m from sea level in Korea. A mainly producing district of the improved wild vine in Korea was distributed 230m to 540m from sea level, and its rainfall ranged 1,200 to 1,700 mm. The lowest temperature was from -19.6 to $-25.4^{\circ}C$. Their soil texture was from sandy loam to clay loam, where drainage class was well drained and the contents of soil organic matter and total nitrogen in the improved wild vine's cultivation area were higher than those of Chinese cabbage's cultivation area in the highland. According to improved wild vine's cultivation methods, the amounts of soil erosion were 25.5,4.1, and $1.8MT\;ha^{-1}$ in clean culture, part sod + mulching, and nature sod, respectively. Those were below 30 to $80MT\;ha^{-1}$ of sloped upland at highland in Korea. The result suggests that it is possible to cultivate the improved wild vine over wintering at 600m of highland above the sea level. We can substitute the improved wild vine for Chinese cabbage in the highland for soil conservation.
