Design of microwave absorbers using high frequency properties of fiber reinforced composites are investigated. Two kinds of composite materials (glass and carbon) are used and their complex permittivity and permeability are measured by transmission/reflection technique using network analyzer. Low dielectric constant and nearly zero dielectric loss are determined in glass fiber composite. However, carbon fiber composites show the high dielectric constant and large conduction loss which is increased with anisotropy of fiber arrangement. It is, therefore, proposed that the glass and carbon fiber composites can be used as the impedance transformer (surface layer) and microwave reflector, respectively. By inserting the foam core or honeycomb core (which can be treated as an air layer) between glass and carbon fiber composites, microwave absorption above 10 dB (90% absorbance) in 4-12 GHz can be obtained. The proposed fiber composites laminates with sandwitch structure have high potential as lightweight and high strength microwave absorbers.

The underwater radiated noise can be reduced by decreasing the structure borne noise of the on-board equipment. Therefore, the structure borne noise of the onborad installed equipment is strongly restricted by ROK navy with MIL-Std 740-2. Usually, the vibration transmissibility from the equipment to the hull of the ship is dependent on its mount characteristics. Even though the double mount structure is proper to apply for ship board application rather than single mount, it is not widely applied due to the weight and volume resriction of the ship. Therefore, in this research, the base using sandwitch panel which can act as double mount structure is suggested and its noise reduction capacity is verified with analytic calculation as well as experiment.
In the developement of LNG cargo, the current concern focuses on the slim design of insulation layer to increase the LNG carrying capacity. Not only thermal stability with BOR(Boil-Off Rate) but structual stability against the LNG weight and the sloshing phenomenon must be also considered. In this paper, we applied the stitched sandwitch composite called the 3X-Board which is stitched through the core thickness direction using glass fiber to the LNG cargo. We evaluated the thermal and structural characteristics of 3X-Board by changing the core thickness and the material, in order to explore a validity for the slim design through the finite element analysis.

To establish an optimum condition in the surface treatment and curing process will be an important parameters for the fabrication of multilayered hybrid composite materials, A17075/CFRP (CARALL : carbon fiber reinforce aluminum laminates). Effects of carbon fiber direction and thickness variation in tensile strength were investigated. And impact damage behavior of carbon fiber reinforce plastic (CFRP) and CARALL were investigated also, it was found that a partial stress increase in order of epoxy adhesive, A17075, CFRP. And the partial stress of CFRP carried out a great portion of applied stress. The impact damage resistance of CARALL was higher than that of CFRP. This is because both side Al sheet of CARALL absorb a great of impact damage.
One case of surgical correction of a large aortopulmonary window in a 4 months old female is reported in detail. Clinical symptoms consisted of fatigue when feeding and recurrent upper respiratory tract infection. Under cardiopulmonary bypass with moderate hypothermia and cardioplegic arrest of the heart, the aortopulmonary window was approached through a vertical incision at the anterior wall of window itself. The defect was closed with pericardial patch using continuous suture posteriorly and sandwitch technique anteriorly. The patient was weaned from the cardiopulmoanry bypas without hemodynamic problem and postoperative course was uneventful. This surgical technique is recommandable as it provides good exposure of the defect and can be performed easily and safely.

Aerospace industries are widely using honeycomb sandwich structures that it has high specific strength and stiffness, chemical material resistance and fatigue resistance. But, in repairing process of damaged areas, one of the problems is that delamination can be occurred in the sound areas during and/or after the exposure to the elevated curing temperature in case that the repair process is repeated. Therefore, this study was conducted Flatwise tensile, Drum peel and Long beam flexural strength tests to evaluate the degree of degradation of mechanical properties of the honeycomb sandwich structures by affecting thermal aging. As the results, the decrease of mechanical strength was observed at the specific specimen which is exposed over 50hrs at $127^{\circ}C$.
Low Floor buses have no steps to get on or get off the main cabin to provide the old and the handicapped with easy access. The car body for the low floor bus was designed to consider Korean physical standard, passenger capacity (standee, seated, handicapped), arrangement of vehicle components, and bus law or regulations. It was designed as an one body, without any reinforcement armature, which has light-weight sandwich constructions with glass epoxy skins, aluminum honeycomb cores and inner-frames. In this paper, torsion rigidity of the designed car body was evaluated and compared with that of a car body with reinforcement armatures in the cabin. Finite element method verified that the designed car body without reinforcement armatures could satisfy requirements of torsion rigidity.
In this paper an identification method is presented to obtain the equivalent electric model of a sandwitch type piezoelectric transducer. Unknown parameters related to the equivalent circuit are identified by solving a nonlinear optimization problem which can minimize an error between the experimental and analytical admittances in air. The proposed method is applied to an example transducer. The validity of equivalent circuit model is demonstrated by the comparison between the experimental measurements and analytical calculations of transmitting voltage response(TVR) and receiving voltage response(RVS).
An integrated inductor using the low temperature cofiring ceramics(LTCC) NiZnAg was fabricated. The inductor has a sandwitch structure, which consists of 18 turns-and-thin Ag rectangular spiral coils in 2-layers(10-turn & 8-turn in each layer). The two layers of Ag coils are among three thick Ni-Zn ferrite so the inductor has a dimension of 12.70mm$\times$12.70mm and 0.32mm thick. For the fabricated inductor, calculation method of inductance was given and it is confirmed that the calculated value is very close to the measured one. Finally as an application of the LTCC integrated inductor for low power electronic circuits, a LTCC boost DC/DC converter with 1W output power and 500KHz switching frequency using the inductor fabricated was developed. For the converter the maximum efficiency of about 87% was obtained.

The development of energy saving system with pressure regulator has recently been received interests. Since the internal geometry in the pressure regulator is small and complex, the frictional loss in it is critical. In this study, the pressure loss with tip size, tip position, and mass flow was investigated using numerical approaches(CFD). The aimed reduction in pressure were achieved as the ratio of t/T was more than 0.8. In addition, there was no effect of the tip position.
